Thanks for choosing Respite Mountain House! We were glad to host your group. It makes us happy that you appreciated our kitchen and views. Come back the next time you need a break.
Overall, the house was very nice and the communication with the property manager was top notch! Everything you need is provided, and the the kitchen was well equipped for cooking for a large group. The property listing was accurate. Property could use a few finishing touches but nothing major.

Thanks Diane! We are glad you enjoyed the house. Our seemingly never ending punch list is progressing to complete items after construction. We designed it with groups like yours in mind and are happy that your group had everything you needed to get together.
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home. Beds were very comfortable and stocked with linens and towels. The host was able to accommodate our needs and went above and beyond. It was a pleasure dealing with him.
We had a lovely stay at this property! It was the perfect size for our party of 13. The king size beds were comfy, the kitchen was stocked (even has two coffee pots, two dishwashers, and two trashcan drawers.) It was very clean and had a lot of high-end finishes. The property is on Top of the mountain so it’s kinda a bumpy ride to get to the house, but it was worth it for the privacy. The host (Chris) is such a nice guy and was great to work with. He addressed a minor issue we had very very quickly. I would say a few final touches to the house are needed, but nothing major. We loved staying here!!
This place was the perfect spot for our friends yearly get together! Brand new, clean, and the host was super easy to work with. He messaged me back and forth right away when I had a few questions. I Highly recommend this place…No complaints whatsoever

I am very glad that you and your friends could enjoy our place! Thanks for being great guests. Come back any time.
The house was perfect for a large family gathering to celebrate our son graduating from Penn State. The pictures are true as advertised. More than enough room in this beautiful house. One of our guests is a mobility challenged senior who had no issues getting around. Stunning views from every room. Sunrise is amazing! Communication from the owners was excellent and they couldn't have been more accommodating. It was a great quiet location to enjoy a fire in the fire pit after a busy weekend. We look forward to coming back.

Thank you for your review! We enjoyed having you as our guests and are privileged to have a small part to play in your son‘s graduation celebration. We very much enjoy the sunrises as well. We will look forward to having you back!
This large rental allowed our entire family (17) to spend a long weekend together, and we had a wonderful time. There were more than enough beds, some games and books. The kitchen was fantastic, we really liked the large oven, supplies of spices, plates, bowls, cups, mugs - and dishwashers (a big plus for 17 eating all meals on site). It is very remote, which we appreciated, but close to Raystown Lake, and Trough Creek state park. Our stay was too short - and too quickly over. We really appreciate Chris's availability whenever we had a question or an issue really enhanced our experience. (it is a brand new place, not completely finished yet, so it is still working out some bugs).

Thanks Greg and Tammy for coming to our new home! You were great guests and we hope that you will come back. We definitely have some punch list items and the list keeps getting smaller. I’m really glad that you could enjoy Trough Creek and the lake and our kitchen!
If you need remote place to spend quality time with your buddies, stop looking for anything else. This is it. You getting a beautiful house with lots of space. Kitchen is fully stocked, good quality towels and bedding. Lots of firewood and many many more. The place makes you feel at home.
Make sure you have AWD car to get down the driveway.
I can confirm the house need lots of work in and out.
But you getting unforgivable memories and experience!!!

We were glad to have you! For sure we are working on our punch list - our front porch is scheduled to go in mid-September. After that our driveway will be finally graded to make it easier to get in and out. Finishing the basement will be our winter project. Thanks for coming and for the great review!
We arrived for our long weekend only to find the house still under construction. The host unfortunately did not inform us of the current status of the home after reaching out on 2 separate occasions within a month prior and led us to believe that the only things left to finish was “some trim details and install central AC” in which he arranged window units for each bedroom. When we arrived, the driveway had not been finished, was steep and rutted. There was still house wrap showing on the front section of the house. The front porch was not done and they had temporary steps into the home. You walk into the kitchen and living space which was tiled but not yet grouted. The dining room table was a large butcher block slab on 2 construction saw horses with foldable chairs set up. The island was not complete as the backs of the cabinets were still exposed. No tie kick around the kitchen cabinets. The pot filler pipe came out of the wall but has not been installed yet. The top of the oven went was exposed and not yet enclosed. They provided an area rug, 2 couches and foldable camp chairs for seating in the living space. Closet doors were up but not on tracks or usable. More to note but I think that’s enough. We checked into the home for about 3 hours until we were able to find a replacement. This house will be absolutely gorgeous when it’s finished, but I cannot recommend booking this property until the host updates finished photos of the property listing.

About the host
Hosted by Chris Labs
We enjoy days on the property when we can soak in the views, enjoy walks in the woods and time with family and friends. We live in Arlington, VA and spend many weekends at the Respite Mountain House property. Chris enjoys trout fishing at Trough Creek State Park. Angie enjoys walks in the neighborhood.
Why they chose this property
After owning this property for17+ years, last year we decided to build a house for family and friends to gather. The setting is majestic and private. We enjoy the wildlife and watching the sunrise. Some days we look down on the clouds which fill the valley. We have seen red tail hawks, bald eagles, woodpeckers and hummingbirds.
What makes this property unique
We designed our house around the view. It is the first thing people notice when they enter during the daytime. There is ample space for a group. The house sits on 27 acres which guests are free to explore. Chris designed and built the house with Angie’s love of light and the view in mind. It has been a labor of love we want to share with family, friends and guests.
Our 86” TV now gives entertainment options for the rainy days and nights. The fall leaves have begun to turn and sunrises have been amazing. The new range hood and pot filler make cooking in the open kitchen very enjoyable.
At night you can enjoy the stars in a very dark context. Some nights the moon is so bright that you can walk outside without a flashlight. The stars are amazing!
The basement rec room will be the 2025 project and we will change our post when it has been completed.
