Definitely no frills cottage
House looked clean upon entry, but we were less than impressed with the linen situation. Bedsheets were very yellowed and stained and definitely did not smell fresh or clean. The laundry soap at the house is unscented so that could’ve been why. But the bath towels also smelled weird and I noticed hair stuck in them upon the first use. Time for a bedsheet refresh or better soap? Even though this is just a cottage in the woods, I think some very small upgrades could make a huge difference in the quality of the stay. Perhaps a new shower head that has more than 6 beads of water coming out. Or a new kitchen sink faucet that doesn’t give you a bath trying to do the dishes. Or if we got real crazy, maybe a dishwasher so you don’t have to rewash all of the dishes with stuck on food from the people who carelessly washed them before you. Because this was our first time visiting Acadia, we didn’t know anything about the area. On the map, it looks like this rental is right outside Acadia but it put a damper on things to have to drive 30 mins to the entrance of Acadia sometimes multiple times a day. We picked the wrong time to visit (last week of April) because everything in Southwest Harbor was still closed and also a lot of places in Acadia and Bar Harbor were still closed for the winter too. I imagine it might be nicer to be “on the quiet side” in the busy summer. The host was responsive and seemed available if we were to need him (we didn’t).
