Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
Our family has been enjoying MDI since we were little in the mid-1900s. We live on the property nearby and are here to provide assistance. We are 3 brothers, two with wives, who act, golf, play tennis, hike and sail among other things while we are able to be here, sometimes together.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 1975
Why Owner chose Southwest Harbor
Our family, 'twas our grandparents, began visiting MDI in 1900 and we cannot imagine vacationing elsewhere.
What makes this Cottage unique
At the base of Causeway lane is the causeway and its bridge. At near high tide, many adventuresome folks love to jump off the bridge and body surf under the bridge. At low tide it is time for shells. Then, at the cottage, we also love watching the deer wander the property.

Comfortable, thoughtfully equipped cabin in an exceptionally great location on the quiet side of MDI. Would definitely book here again. Thanks Ken
Terrific location to walk to water, harbor, and into town. Place is comfortable and has good kitche
Ken was very responsive to inquiries. Home is secluded, quiet, yet close to hiking, shopping, and good restaurants within walking distance.
Great little cabin
Great location, close to town but private enough for peace & enjoyment. Close enough to all major amenities. All within 20 miles. Cabin is older but equipped with everything you need, it could use some updating but it works. Because you’re in the woods, I suggest bringing a bug zapper & plenty of repellent! Maine has no shortage of huge mosquitoes!!! And if you’re with children every time you open the door you invite them in! The Fox’s are wonderful people, we very much enjoyed our vacation and the short walk to the causeway.
Thank you for your comments. It was an unusually wet spring adding to the normal population of bugs. Sorry for the problem, but your advice is good.
Excellent cottage. The owners had everything we needed.
Perfect place for an Acadia vacation!
This cottage was absolutely perfect for our family trip to Acadia. The location is amazing - a short walk into the village of Southwest Harbor, and an even shorter walk down to a beautiful causeway perfect for fishing and exploring. We were cozy inside on a rainy day and when the weather was nice, we grilled outside and had a fire in the firepit. The cottage was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook, and when we didn't feel like cooking we walked to Beal's Lobster Pound for dinner! The beds are super comfortable, towels are nice and thick, there's a washer/dryer, games to play, and books to read. The owners have thought of everything!
Cute, clean, quiet cabin
The cabin was exactly as described. Everything was very clean.
The kitchen was very well stocked with all utensils, plates, pots/pans, and many of the spices and basic cooking needs. The cabin is very simple, nothing fancy. Given that we used the cabin as a launching point for spending our days out and about on the island, this was totally fine for us. If you are looking for a bit more comfort/luxury, this might not be your best fit. Also note that while we were excited to have some outside space (i.e. yard and fire pit) we did not end up using it because it is located in a pretty damp wooded area... meaning mosquitos were abundant. Location near Southwest Harbor was great. We also loved biking around the area, walking down to the causeway and visiting some of the local restaurants and shops. There is an open field next door and we loved watching a mother deer and her yearling hang out there every day. It took us ~20 minutes to get to Acadia National Park main entrance and just a bit longer to get to Bar Harbor.
The local weekly newspapers, The Islander and The Bar Harbor Times, provide plentiful information about festivals and events in the area. There is much happening, from music, to lumberjack show, to miniature golf to live theatre at the Acadia Rep. The area thrives on entertaining its guests.
