About this property
Retreat In The Woods
This lovely home is located in a quiet corner of the northern Berkshires. It is located just over a mile from beautiful Tannery Falls in the Savoy State forest. It is a good home base from which to do area hiking as well as day trips to area attractions in the Berkshires. The house has a large combined living room and fully-equipped kitchen with cathedral ceilings. Both bedrooms look out on the woods - one with a queen bed and one with a double bed. The bedroom with the double bed has a screened in porch. The spacious bathroom has a stand-up shower and a 2-person jacuzzi tub. There is a hiking trail and wetlands in the woods behind the house. The house is also located across from Starseed Healing Sanctuary and Holistic Retreat Center, which has a number of trails and interesting spots to visit such as a peace labyrinth. For cold weather stays, please note that the primary source of heat is wood stove. Cord wood, fire starting materials and instructions are provided, but you would have to be comfortable operating the wood stove yourself. The house is very well insulated and gets great solar gain on sunny days, so while it may not be needed at all times, the stove is certainly needed some of the time during the winter and shoulder seasons. There are plug-in electric heaters in the bedrooms so you don't have to operate the stove during sleeping hours.

Had a great time. House was easy to keep warm. Very quiet and secluded area. House is well kept and clean. Everything you need to cook was in the kitchen. Beds were comfortable and linens were nice. The bathtub was perfectly clean and great to relax in
It's in the woods, it's quiet, it's warm (with the wood-burning stove), and it's the same every time. Highly recommended (just don't stay there when I want to!)
Second time we've stayed here, and it was every bit as good as the first. The wood stove keeps the place warm and feeling great. Peaceful, quiet, just what we were looking for.
The cabin was comfortable and extremely clean. Well apportioned. We could not have been happier. Would definitely stay again. Hope to come to Solid Sound again!
The house was comfortable and roomy with everything we needed. We enjoyed the quiet and beautiful woods surrounding the property. We took advantage of many hiking areas including the falls, and also visited nearby North Adams. Hope to return next summer.
The property was very close to great hiking, waterfalls, and great views! A little far from a grocery store, but had other small general stores and restaurants not too far. Great little place to get away with family and get out in nature!
This is a charming and rustic home literally surrounded by woods. It is up a winding mountain road which make most excursions to Berkshire sites 45 minutes to an hour. The WiFi is not very strong, but owners may be planning a remedy for that. An old TV and DVD player were not working very well and also may be replaced. In all other ways the house and kitchen are well equipped and a good place to “get away from it all”!
If you're looking for rest and healing from the chaos of life, this is the perfect retreat. The wooden paneling in the rooms makes everything warm and cozy. The kitchen is well-equipped. And hiking an amazing trail with many creeks and waterfalls is only five minutes away by car. A breath of much-needed fresh air!
The cabin couldn't have been nicer. Spacious and clean, simple decor (no cheesy cabin art), a kitchen well-stocked with every appliance and dish for eating in, quiet surroundings, pitch-dark and peaceful at night, discreet owners who were still available if needed. This is a real gem, an 11/10!
This was such a great escape into nature! The residence was clean and inviting and the host left great directions and info for things to do in the area. The hike in the woods behind the house was peaceful and full of fun little critters. A very short distance down the road was a trail to the waterfalls, which was just absolutely serene. The location is great to take day trips into cute towns like Shelburne Falls, Northampton, and Pittsfield. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay 🙂
This is our second summer visiting Cricket Hollow and we greatly enjoyed our time in at this property. It's a lovely house, with well appointed rooms, fabulous open living/kitchen plan and the most peaceful screened reading porch.
Our family enjoyed connecting with nature in the woods behind the house, exploring, and visiting the beaver habitat every day.
You come here to truly disconnect and focus on relaxing and spending quality uninterrupted with your fellow travelers. We'll be back!
A lovely getaway exactly as advertised and communication was excellent.
Sitting around 1700’, it gave us the healthy dose of winter, snow and sledding we had been hoping for.
Cricket Hollow is a cozy and well maintained cabin and a kitchen that had what we needed. The wood stove (we both have experience with them) was great and got the place warm quickly and the fan spread the heat enough into the bedrooms we didn’t need to use the space heaters.
Definitely recommend.

Great location, beautiful cabin, opportunity for improvement in the details
Before I begin, a disclaimer: I recognize that maybe some of these issues are not persistent and perhaps seasonal, but I felt the need to mention our experience at the cabin so people are aware of potential pitfalls.
Calm, green surroundings greeted us on our arrival and at first glance, we couldn’t be happier with the cabin: the vaulted ceilings, open floor plan, bountiful library, and screened porch all suited our vacation needs. It is spacious and so well located for both hiking and museum visits.
But unfortunately some aspects of the experience put a serious damper on our enjoyment. It seems that previous renters had left behind open food packages, which attracted large amounts of giant ants. In addition, we found the dishes to be quite dirty and greasy and needing to be washed before use. Surfaces in both the kitchen and bathroom were dirty and all the area rugs felt old, damp, and musty. The towels also had a musty smell and the host discourages towel over-usage, so we felt pressured into using only one per person for our four-night visit. The water pressure was terribly low, the humidity in the cabin caused all our belongings to be damp and stay damp the entire time, and the amount of flies outside the cabin made it impossible to enjoy the trails, which seemed mostly grown over.
All in all, however. There were positives to be found and we are thankful for the host graciously opening their home to visitors.
The cabin was lovely. Warm and cozy with lots of windows. This is a great place to unwind and unplug. Bring a good book and good company and enjoy. Centrally located in the Berkshires to visit all of the places you’d want to on east day trips.
If you are looking for a remote and peaceful location this is it. It is in an extremely private location as well. There are no services or distractions in the local area, but the cabin is surrounded by several State Forests and is very close to Mount Greylock Reservation. Also if you have an off-road capable vehicle there are many roads close by that you can enjoy!
This lovely property provided an opportunity to spend quiet quality time with our family. I have never seen a rental with a better equipped kitchen. The whirlpool bath was a fun bonus. Bedrooms were cozy and comfortable and the main living space us commodious with lots of seating. We enjoyed the onsite hiking trail and checking out the beaver ponds and habit. We will certainly be back with out children in the future.
Very quiet, remote, low-tech. Very well-equipped kitchen, and other nice surprises. Delightful late afternoons reading on the screened in porch. If you can live without tv or your cell phone for a few days, I highly recommend this sweet little house off the beaten path.
Cricket Hollow was just what we needed for our week long stay! The wood burning stove kept us warm.Beautiful cabin with cathedral ceilings let in so much light! The Jacuzzi tub was a plus! The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook meals. Tannery Falls is just minutes away, absolutely a must see.The falls at the bottom are beautiful! We will definitely be returning soon!!
