About this property

The Farmers Cabin

Please Read Before Booking. Step back in time and enjoy our rustic cabin couples retreat. No insulation or drywall, restored just as it was in 1865. The setting is rural and tranquil with lots of nature and farm animals, a beautiful place to relax and unplug. Conveniently located close to the Intersection of I-74 and I-55. Close to Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan Universities and Rivian Motors.
As our guest you will have access to our farm surroundings. The bedroom loft provides a beautiful country view of the eastern pasture. Our cabin includes a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. The cabin is stocked with plates, glasses, coffee cups and silverware. Need some fresh air? The front porch is a wonderful place to sit and read a book, play a guitar or just listen to the sounds of nearby nature. There is a small fire pit as well as a park like charcoal grill just outside the cabin entrance. NOTE: Just a few steps away you will have access to the private bathhouse with a new Toilet and Shower, the walls are lined with aromatic cedar with private entrance. Why not in the cabin? In the 1860’s bathrooms were not a thing!

If you're looking for adventure instead of a boring hotel room, this is the place for you! Please be advised this is a working farm. It is 100 + years old and we cannot promise you may not see a bug or two. We have a few farm animals that need daily attention so you may see someone wondering around at some point. Just wave if you need anything, we’re happy to help out.
Note: 3 night maximum stay.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Farmers Cabin in Normal, Illinois, thanks to the incredible hospitality of David and Ellie . They are such a lovely couple who made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. They took the time to walk us around their beautiful farm, introducing us to the animals and sharing their personal stories, which made the experience even more special. The connection we felt to this place and their warm hospitality is something we will cherish for the rest of our lives. The cabin itself is cozy and charming, with picturesque surroundings and peaceful countryside vibes. Waking up to the sounds of nature and the farm animals made for such a unique and refreshing experience. We cannot emphasize enough how much we enjoyed our stay here, and we will definitely be returning. If you’re looking for a serene getaway with genuine, heartfelt hosts, we highly recommend staying at the Farmers Cabin!

Charming Place with a few problems.

The property was lovely! Goats, Alpacas, Turkeys, Ducks. A very friendly black and white kitty. The cabin itself was just adorable. The hosts have obviously put in a lot of time and effort. There were umbrellas by the door. A porta potty in the closet. Charcoal and lighter fluid provided. Wood for the fire pit. We even received a welcome treat, makings for S’Mores. We believe that the listing had some issues. First and foremost the cabin is see through, meaning that there isn’t any insulation. You can see the outside through the walls. Which means that the air conditioner upstairs keeps the upstairs cool at night. But the temperature downstairs is unlivable. When we got up at 7 am, the downstairs temperature was at 85 degrees. It was truly unbearable. We had to go out and keep ourselves occupied until the sun went down and the cabin cooled off. I sat in my car for 2 hours with the air conditioning on to cool down. The second issue isn’t so much that you have to walk to the bathhouse, but there is literally no room between the toilet and shower. I am a size 14 women’s and I just fit. My legs were touching the walls just sitting. And trying to use toilet paper while sitting, forget it. So when I read the listing I read, air conditioning, bathroom, 1 bed. I assumed that the bathroom was IN the cabin. So read carefully. I never met the hosts. But thank you for the sweet corn. We would have loved to hear more about the farm. Best of luck in the future!

A hidden gem!

An absolutely stunning cabin, meticulously decorated and kept in pristine condition. David was extremely courteous and made sure we had everything we needed. I had no idea how to fire up a grill, and he came over with a propane torch to make sure we me and my girlfriend didn't starve haha. Everything you would need in a weekend getaway, even the stuff I forgot to bring!

READ the description carefully!!

driving in it was beautiful, peaceful & we were ready to relax. the cabin was decorated super cute to accent the farm life. then… found the bath house! a lot more than a few steps away as described. 1 person could barely turn around & the mildew smell was the worst. ok… i can deal with this for 2 nights right! wrong. trying to get down the steep stairs from the bedroom in the middle of the night almost ended in a tumble down the stairs & a very long unlite walk to the bath house. it is connected to the main house & the dog barked every time i stepped onto the deck. by morning we had had enough of roughing it. and went to a hotel where the washroom was “literally” a few steps away. i will definitely be reading & asking questions before booking next time

Located in central Illinois.
Our Farm originated in the 1890’s
We care for animals: the Nigerian goats and kids, roosters, hens and chicks, guard dogs and barn cats.
We tend: the vegetable & herb gardens, hay fields, pastures and protect the wild places in between.
We build and repair: barns, sheds, garden beds, animal pens, fences and chicken coops.
We harvest: milk from the goats, eggs from the hens, fiber from the alpacas for spinning, hay from the pasture for winter food, herbs for cooking and vegetables for the kitchen table.
We compost: reuse and recycle.
We convert: sunlight to solar energy and the wind into electricity.
