Schoolhouse is the quintessential Maine cottage. Originally built in 1936 as a Sears kit house, the two-bedroom, one-bath home has been lovingly cared for and maintained over the years with all its original charm intact. Located a short walk from the picturesque village of Northeast Harbor, Schoolhouse is perfectly situated for taking in Acadia National Park and all Mount Desert Island has to offer! Upon arriving at Schoolhouse, you are greeted by a spacious screened-in porch with two built in benches perfect for cocktail hour or reading a book. The first floor includes a bright living room with a couch and two side chairs. There is a TV with Roku and a (inoperable) fireplace. Off the living room is a cozy dining room with antique table for six. The adjacent kitchen has a four burner electric stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. A single serve coffee dispenser and K Cups are provided. Please note there is no microwave or toaster oven. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and a full bathroom. The first bedroom features a queen-sized bed, a dresser, two side tables and a large closet. The second bedroom offers a full-sized bed, two dressers and a closet. Our bathroom has a walk in shower and a vintage claw foot tub. There is one sink. Ample towels, linens and pillows are provided. There is a full sized washer and dryer in the unfinished basement and a large side yard. The garage is being used for storage and therefore is not accessible for vehicles.

A quintessential New England home! We loved all the simple time period decor, with modern conveniences. It is well appointed home with all the basic necessities for our family (less an outdoor grill that would have been used frequently). A very quiet neighborhood, wonderful location with easy access to hiking trails and the carriage roads keeping us very busy during our week long stay. We would absolutely stay again and wished we would have booked for two weeks as there is so much to do in beautiful Acadia.
We loved staying here. The house is very convenient to town and other spots, and is well-appointed, clean, comfortable, and full of charm.
Highly recommended!
