This classic New England home in a quiet neighborhood near the Mill Pond and the York River is walking distance to York Harbor Beach, York Village, the harbor and walking trails. There is plenty of space for up to 10 people with 5 bedrooms, 2-1/2 bathrooms, living room, den, kitchen with large dining area, enclosed front porch and back patio.

The Wiggly Bridge is a short walk away, leading to a lovely walk through the Steadman Woods. Wander down the fishermen's walk with its spectacular views of the harbor. End your day with a family dinner at home or at one of the many nearby restaurants, many within walking distance.

York is a popular beach community with history, charm and accessibility. First settled in 1624 and the first incorporated city in America, the area offers a myriad of fun things to do including relaxing on the beach, fishing, sightseeing and shopping. It is home to the John Hancock Wharf and Mark Twain's summer home and is an area which still has architectural examples from the gilded age, particularly the shingle style.

There is plenty to do including fishing, kayaking, boating, biking, golfing, & dining in York and the surrounding communities of Kittery, Cape Neddick, Ogunquit or Portsmouth, NH. The area is known for summer theater, concerts, and the many activities in York Beach including 10 pin bowling, miniature golf, and saltwater taffy and fresh made ice cream. There are local forts, lighthouses and historic homes. Rain or shine, there is an endless array of things to do.

NEW: The house is now set up with a downstairs bedroom with ensuite full bathroom and 4 additional bedrooms upstairs. New pictures to be posted soon.

Pets: we strive to offer a pet friendly property but we do need to know some information about your pet - or pets - before booking. Please send an inquiry first and include what kind of pet (dog or cat), breed and weight. For dogs also include if they are kennel trained and for cats if they are box trained and clawed or declawed. Generally the house can accommodate up to 2 pets but additional pets will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The pet fee is $100 for the first pet, additional pets will add $50 each to the pet fee and covers the additional cleaning and maintenance costs.

About the host

Host profile image
I'm originally from the Chicago suburbs and growing up spent my summers in York Harbor. Some of my fondest memories as an adult was watching my own children (now adults) play in the same beach and climb the rocks as I did as a kid. I've owned the house since 1992 and my family's ties to York Harbor date back to the 1940s. I still live in the central US but have family in York and get out to Maine several times a year.

What makes this property unique

This house began as a one room cottage that is now the living room, which was moved to the property in the mid-1800s by the McKenna family and was added onto several time between then and the mid-1920s. The clapboard under the stairs is from the original exterior of that cottage. We completed a renovation of the entire house in 2018 in which every room was stripped to the framing and rebuilt, new central heating & air conditioning was installed and the kitchen, dining and laundry areas were redesigned - we hope you enjoy it.
