This was a fantastic place for our long weekend. We traveled back and forth to Daytona to catch the races. The back yard is amazing, plenty of seating to sit out and enjoy the lake. Tons of wildlife! We arrived a couple of hours prior to check in and went to the Black Hammock bar and restaurant, it was a great experience! Friendly staff and reasonable pricing. We enjoyed it so much that we returned for supper that first evening. Would recommend this to anyone!

Nice place. Spacious.Convenient location for us. Nice view of the lake.. Owners have a restaurant and boat ride service very close by. Cristina, the property manager, was very helpful and attentive. I would stay there again.

What a great property this is! By far one of the best VRBO experiences I've had. From the property itself to the concise and timely communications from the host ensuring that we knew what to do, to answering any questions I had. They property... Good lord, if you like relaxing outside taking in Florida at its best. This is the place! The pond in the back is a constant display of all kinds of wildlife. Gators (all of them were babies) and birds (egrets, herrons, ospreys, eagles, finches, etc) all doing their thing in front of you. The view of the lake beyond the pond is gorgeous. The Black Hammock Inn is one street over with great food and drinks and also air boat rides.The house was really comfortable and very well appointed. Nice open spaces for entertaining and gathering around at the diner table.This is a property that I've pinned to return again.

Gators at the Den

The view from the back of the house is pretty of lake Jesup. The airboat ride next door was awesome with Captain Duey. The wildlife is amazing. The house is spacious enough and beds were comfortable. Needs a little TLC and some cleaning issues need to be addressed. Hosts was very accommodating and fast to respond.

Gotta love Black Hammock

Just a wonderful old Florida place. Our house was Lake Jessup waterfront. Food at the Black Hammock restaurant is great. (you must try the shrimp and grits). Captain Steve was a great air boat ride guide and gators and exotic birds are everywhere. If your looking for the other than Disney Florida vacation give Black Hammock a try. We love the place.

The property was perfect for our stay. The only negatives was that the house is showing its age. The ice maker and water dispenser was not operational. With that said there are no motels in the Oviedo area so i would stay again.

Great beds!

The place is a little dated, but the beds were clean and comfortable. The house was not swept to well. We had to sweep to be able to walk around barefoot. The yard was pretty cool. We saw gatters From the porch.

.Henry, I am very sorry about the snake in the residence, but your review is a little dramatic. I came right away, personally, and removed the tiny non-venomous corn snake immediately and you seemed okay. You told me you liked the house. So I do not deny we did find a small snake but it is my thinking the snake came through the door that was left open for a long time despite the fact that we cut grass, trim trees, and bushes around the property often to make critters stay away. A couple of days later we had a reservation and the guest wanted to cancel their reservation because of your review. I called the guest who wanted to cancel and was able to get them to change their mind and keep the reservation. You can see this house has 5-star reviews and this situation was isolated.

Amazing

House was as advertised: clean, spacious, large linai, had everything we needed. Bedding was a little lumpy due to the style. The lake & small pond provided great views and beautiful sunsets . The area is a birdwatchers paradise. A book of the birds and wildlife would be helpful. We enjoyed the Black Hammock Restaurant and the airboat ride. We found other restaurants and places to shop in town which was easy to find. Great area. We would like to return another year.

Perfect Spot

Stayed at the house with my wife, 2 daughters, son in law, 1 year old grand son and dog. Perfect spot off the beaten path, on the lake, with gator watching in the back yard. Plenty of space and comfortable. A short walk down the driveway, then over a couple of streets and up the short driveway to the Black Hammock bar and restaurant that you can see from the backyard. My cousin and I watched football, had some good conversation, beers and ate good bar food while the family went to Universal. Then walked back to the house. The property host was very responsive. Will definitely stay again when visiting the area.

Great location!! We have stayed in many VRBO properties so have a few suggestions' Could have been a little more generous with basic supplies. I feel this would encourage renters to help you maintain. Kitchenware haphazard and not very clean. A simple trip to Ikea to replace old and uneven dish ware would greatly improve esthetics and function. All towels, bedding sufficient but well used. Will definitely return and recommend. Just know that property is older and marginally maintained. What makes this property is the location and the abundance of wildlife to view. Thank You

Best getaway for a weekend

Abundant wildlife, spectacular sunsets and perfect weather, so we were outdoors a lot, but thoroughly enjoyed the house, too! Spacious, modern and clean, well equipped. Shopping is convenient, as well as plenty of things to do nearby. We will definitely be back. A real treasure.

Gator Den overall good rating

First, we give Gator Den in Oviedo, Florida a good rating overall. Location was the best part of our 1 month stay at the house. Lots of wildlife and very nice lake views. Serenity. The property owner (lives next door) and the property manager were responsive when needed. Surrounding grounds were pleasant. The house is an easy walk to a rustic lakeside complex featuring a mini-zoo showing gators and birds that also boasts a nice tavern with ecent food and a relaxing outside bar area. We enjoyed seeing many gators and birds on the little marina's popular air boat ride on the lake and through some marshes. House HVAC mechanical sytems operate well but we changed the filthy furnace air filter because it was long overdue and covered in smelly mold. All electrical and plumbing worked well. Linens were plentiful. Bedding OK. Owner is in process of renovating the house. New kitchen and master bathroom are very good. More new furniture (especially for the screened-in porch) is needed and a fresh coat of paint will further improve the comfort and appeal of this rental house. Attention to detail to correct a few issues would allow us to rate it 5 stars. To do: several screen repairs, dryer vent repair, paint the interior (even the garage), and spruce up landscaping. Owner should provide a vacuum cleaner and basic cleaning supplies! We bought a cheap grill since there wasn't one offered. We weren't in sync with owner's decision not to provide a remote garage door opener. Apparently they "dissappear" so none offered. We really enjoyed our stay at Gator Den and would probably return if these inexpensive to-do items were fixed and the daily price stays the same.

Hidden Gem

This property is a hidden gem. It is relatively close to everything yet it is tucked away from the beaten path. It was exactly what we wanted - a true FL style location. Situated right on the edge of a beautiful lake, the house is simple, yet it has everything you need and it offers unparalleled views all day long. Early mornings and late nights are especially wonderful with stunning sunrise and sunset, peace and quiet and nature. We picked this spot to get away from the hectic pace and it was perfect.

Wonderful place, but if you get chilly, bring your blanket

We greatly enjoyed staying at this property. It was exactly what we were looking for in terms of size and location. It was very close to the grocery stores, and backed up to the lake of course. (By the way, you cannot swim in this lake) We did go to the Black Hammock boat tour, I believe our tour guide was Sam, she was fantastic and extremely hospitable. We told her we were staying next door at the home and she took some time to show us things that she's noticed that we may be able to see while we're staying at the property. Our kids thought they were going to hate the boat tour because they don't like sitting through boat tours usually, but they LOVED this one. (Highly recommend it) We would like to back in the spring when the season is better to see more alligators, but nonetheless, we were very happy about how beautifully landscaped this property is. It is close to town, and yet slightly off the beaten path so that you feel secluded and have privacy, no concerns for safety or crime. The only thing that I would have done differently is brought more blankets and towels because in terms of linens, there weren't much other than the bare, bare, necessities (that we found at least, maybe we missed them...) when we stayed. Other than that, and the fact that the gate, when exiting seemed to be a little tricky, you have to drive slowly up to it in order for it to open, so you can exit the property, but overall, we were very happy campers here and certainly plan to go back in the future when we visit our family in Oviedo.

We stayed here bc our adult children live in Geneva and it’s close to them. We enjoyed the house. It’s very spacious. Very nice patio area and walking distance to black hammock restaurant was def a plus. Could use a few updates on bedding and kitchen utensils but would def stay again.
