Perfect family vacation on beautiful Lake Thompson
We truly enjoyed our stay on Lake Thompson. The cottage is just what we were looking for for a family vacation. Cozy cottage, amazing sunsets, sandy and safe access to the lake for the kiddos . The Lake is very clean and great for swimming and water activities. Wendy was great to communicate with as host!
We had a great week again this year. See more details in my review from summer 2019. Once again this summer our week on Thompson Lake was perfect. Just the right cottage on the right lake for a active family vacation.
We had a really great time...our 6yr old grandson had a great time swimming and jumping off the dock. The sunsets and moon at night were fabulous. The house was very well stocked and the owner (Wendy) was very easy to communicate with. The only problem that we had was that we were coming from Seattle, and to bring our linen and take the garbage to the dump in our rental car was difficult.
The house was perfect for what we wanted. Great location. We have a toddler and the small inlet was perfect for him to play safely. The lake is beautiful. Close to some easy hiking, or to Portland for day trips.
Only drawbacks were no air conditioning or laundry.
This is the perfect spot for me and my family in Maine. We have stayed at several cottages over the years but this is the one we want to return to from here on in.
This is not a sleek, high-end rental , but a well-kept, roomy and comfortable home with some mid-century charm and with a perfectly picturesque view. The neighbors' cottages are close; however, everyone I have met has been so wonderful to chat with, and they've come to remember who we are. If that's your thing, you'll be thrilled with it like I consistently am! I kind of hate to review it because I want it to be my little secret, but Wendy is so kind and accommodating that of course I must share my rave review!
We brought our family of six to this cottage and it could not have worked out any better. I was looking for the Maine lake experience I had for a week or two every summer through the 1960's and 70's. Thompson Lake is far enough outside Portland to have retained its clear water and relatively peaceful ambiance despite our summer peak-time visit. The cottage is simple but will comfortably sleep a family even larger than ours. The one bath is spacious and since you spend most of the day in or on the lake one bath is adequate. The amenities are just right, the kayaks in particular were a big hit with my kids. The neighbors are mostly owners and friendly so if you don't feel welcome you are probably making too much noise. If you want to be one of the few power boats buzzing around this large lake, the family-run Thompson Lake Marina at the south end will get you what you need for your water-sport of choice. Navigating power boats along the shores of Thompson Lake is not for amateurs due to the rocky shoreline. For those with boating experience there is enough water in front of this cottage to get a plenty big i/o ski boat in there to the dock and mooring. Our kids were wakeboarding from one end of the lake to the other without running into boat traffic.
If you are looking for a lakefront rental experience that will take you back to a simpler time when the water was clear, the boats were few and far between, and the rentals were cottages not McMansions, you will find what you need here at Wendy's place on Thompson Lake.

Beautiful Lakefront Retreat
We really enjoyed our stay in "Duck Inn"! The house was very welcoming and clean upon arrival. The location was beautiful! The little beach area was perfect for our kids, as were the steps into the lake. There is a perfect swimming area for little kids, and our three year old loved it! The hammock over the rocks was one of our favorite places, along with the deck. The house had all the needed amenities, and we were pleasantly surprised by the dishwasher! The only thing we could have wished for was a little more privacy, as the neighbors are very close but VERY friendly! We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a place to stay on Lake Thompson and we hope to be able to get back! Thank you for opportunity to stay!

Great Rental Property
We had an incredible time on Thompson Lake!! The house was super clean, nothing fancy but had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again. The lake was pristine, kayaks were lots of fun and the dock was great for jumping right into the lake! The house is situated so that there is a small cove which was great for my 11 year old to learn how to navigate the kayaks and by the end of the week he went out with my husband for about an hour just cruising around the lake. We rented a boat for 2 days from the local marina and went water tubing...such a blast. I would definitely recommend this house for a vacation in Maine!

Great setting and Amazing Sunsets!!
What a great time we had on Thompson Lake. The cottage was clean and organized. On a small protected cove it was easy to launch the kayaks. Facing west, the sunsets were not to be missed. Fishing, boating, nearby golf or just relaxing I would recommend this spot to my family, friends, or anyone wanting to get away and enjoy being on the lake. We are looking forward to a return visit.
Enjoy!! John and Robin, Tolland, CT

Clean and comfortable! Great for kids and couples!
Our family had a fantastic week at this camp! Our 5 children are ages 1-8. There is a really nice shallow area to swim, even for the little ones but gradually gets deeper the further in you go. They also have a nice long dock that the kids can swim off of. Kayaks were available to use. We swam, kayaked, and fished off the dock. The kids were thrilled! The lake is large with good fishing that my husband really enjoyed! The house is also well stocked. 3 nice bedrooms plus added additional space upstairs for sleeping and additional space in the basement. The kitchen & livingroom overlook the lake and they are both a good size! Additional games and toys were in the basement that came in handy for kids. There is a nice outside deck and grill. Everything was in good condition. It was a comfortable stay. The lake itself has many boat rentals available which is a good option if you don't have a boat. There are several stores within 10 - 15 minutes. Overall we were very satisfied and plan on coming back again!
