Safe Retreat: Bicyclists, Birders, Wine Lovers, River Revelers Welcome!

UPDATE !! COVID safe retreat. Casa Colibri meets or exceeds the Sonoma County guidelines for short and long-term stays. Starting in June 2020, Casa Colibri , will be offering a 30 day rental package along with the shorter-term rental option. This is to help you easily cope with sheltering in place with your family or close friends and have a great time doing it. If you like to ride bicycles, enjoy bird watching, drink premium wines and enjoy a rural wine-country setting this a fully fenced single-story 3+ bedroom, 2-bath home is situated in the heart of Alexander Valley is for you! It is ideal for families and small groups who love wine, food, birds, bicycling, and the ambiance of wine country and are perhaps looking for a clean, private retreat but within minutes to downtown Healdsburg, Geyserville and Calistoga. It's an easy one-hour drive to San Francisco. There is parking for four cars including one covered spot. The private backyard looks out onto grapes, mountains and the Russian River riparian corridor. Bocce and Pétanque courts are new for 2018 and are regulation size for you serious players. If you are ping-pong players, an all-weather aluminum-top table is set up in the backyard. There is a regulation Bocce court, regulation Petanque court and the oddly named "corn hole" game. (I guess "bean-bag" is a wee unhip.)
There is an outdoor spa and shower. A solar panel array generates enough power to totally offset electrical usage. It also has an electric vehicle charging station which makes this a carbon-free getaway.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A "PARTY HOUSE". GOOD RELATIONS WITH MY RURAL NEIGHBORHOOD IS MORE IMPORTANT TO ME THAN A BOOKING. OCCUPANTS AND VEHICLES ARE LIMITED TO THE NUMBER SPECIFIED IN THE AGREEMENT.

OK, now that you've read the BOLD but sadly necessary pre-emptive admonition, here are some combinations of family and small groups of friends who are perfect for this property:
-2 couples
-3 couples
-3 couples, with total of 2 children (1-12 years old)
-2 couples with 2 children and grandparent or Au Pair
-1 couple with up to 4 children
-6-7 really good adult friends
-5 really good adult friends and up to two more you're not sure of yet, but know.
-You get the idea.
The number and type of beds in each room are detailed below.
Please contact me with the exact configuration of your group and it may work out. As stated dramatically above, this a sweet retreat for the right people. It is amazingly situated and well-appointed. If you are the right group, you will have fun here.

You can literally walk to 3 wineries. Dozens of other fine wineries are located within minutes by car or bike. It's an easy walk to the Russian River.
NOTE: The always excellent bicycling is enhanced this year as the car traffic has significantly declined due to the pandemic.
Cyclists come from all over the world to ride and train here as there are miles of scenic and safe roads for all abilities. This is the year of the bike!!

The charming towns of Healdsburg and Geyserville are within a 10 minute drive and offer a wide range of and dining. Calistoga and Santa Rosa are both within a 20 mile scenic drive.

This home is right next to a Community Church which has service on Sunday's at 10 AM. Church services have been suspended during the pandemic. The .68 acres is very private and serene and suitable for BBQ's with all amenities provided.

If you or someone in your party likes to gamble, River Rock Casino is a ten-minute drive away and offers a full range of Las Vegas style gaming and dining.
The home has been recently remodeled with a gourmet kitchen with vineyard views in every direction. One bedroom with a Cal King bed has a separate child's room attached. The second bedroom has an Eastern King and a single bed. The third bedroom is the 'bunk room' with a single bed over a Queen bed and a single trundle underneath.
The combination of these 3 bedrooms offer a variety of accommodations.
The large family room has a flat screen HD SmartTV with DVD, CD, and VCR. Classic board games like Scrabble, Trivial Pursuits and others are supplied. The Cal King bedroom with the child's annex also has a flat-screen HDTV.
Casa Colibri lives up to it's name as hummingbirds visit the kitchen window every day. Raptors, and a full range of year-round and migratory birds abound. The British Starlings flock and put on incredible aerial shows in the fall between feasts of grapes left on the vines. For those who have not witnessed them, their synchronized acrobatics or 'murmurations' are mysterious and remarkable.
The Russian River is also within walking distance and offers year-round flow and activities from Steelhead and Bass fishing to kayaking to plain old swimming. Canoe outfitters provide equipment and shuttle service.

The walkable Medlock-Ames Tasting Room provides fine wines, picnic areas, gardens and bocce courts. They also have regular food-trucks and live music on the weekends.

This home has everything you need to enjoy your wine-country getaway. We are in our seventh full year of operation and have improved our facilities to maximize the value of your experience. Please check out our reviews. We are resource conscious and the solar array matches the energy use. You can use the spa guilt-free at Casa Colibri! A vehicle charging station is available and free to guests who own a Tesla, Leaf, Prius or any other plug-in EV. The house also features an outside shower.
Concierge service for almost any interest or activity is available. Let us know what you want to do and we will help you make yours a memorable stay.

Keywords: COVID safe in the heart of Alexander Valley surrounded by vineyards. You can easily walk to the unique and delightful Jimtown Store and several tasting rooms. The epi-center of World-class biking, birding and wines. Great restaurants nearby.

Gorgeous area

We booked this house for Thanksgiving. I want to do it again next year too since cooking here was just a blast, beautiful big island windows all around and nestled into adorable Anderson Vally, Dales home is well appointed, full of art and antiques too. We just loved this stay.

Perfect Girls Weekend Getaway!

I rented the property for a weekend getaway with my closest girlfriends, and this place was perfect for the 8 of us, and my pup. Walking distance to wineries, a great market next door for a tasty lunch, and a cool bar down the block. Running in the area was absolutely beautiful. We sat in the hot tub and stared at stars at night, and it was a short drive into downtown Healdsburg. No complaints whatsoever! It was a beautiful property and we are all already talking about coming back next year!

Wonderful House!

My friends and I came up for a reunion when my husband and I moved back from Texas. The house was beautiful. The yard is huge. The spa is hot. We loved everything about it. We would definitely go back. The dog was even able to join us.

Ideal Sonoma Getaway with Friends

We rented this house for a girls (group of 8) getaway in the Sonoma region and it was all that we hoped it would be. The location couldn't be more perfect - Medlock Ames and Hawkes are really great small wineries practically right next door (We did the food and wine pairing at Medlock Ames and hung out at the bar in the evening. The staff was wonderful and the cocktails were great. We did a tasting at Hawkes as well, also wonderful people). The Jimtown Store is right next door and has amazing food - gourmet sandwiches, salads, coffee and other snacks that you can get to go or eat in the charming seating area. The house is also close to Healdsburg. We booked a cab to take us to the Healdsburg Plaza to go out to dinner at Barndiva one night. The view from this rental house is stunning - vineyard, farm and mountains all in one pretty setting. The horses next door always greeted us in the morning, as did the beautiful hummingbirds. We truly enjoyed sitting on the back porch sipping the local wine and watching the sun set. It was peaceful, quiet and picturesque. The house comfortably fits 8 people. We had no problems sharing the space. The kitchen is very nice - perfectly sized for cooking a big meal - and the dining room table was a great place to sit down together to eat or play cards. Finally, to Dell, who is a fabulous host: thanks for the bottle of wine (which we drank upon our arrival!) and for all of your tips on the area. We had a great time and look forward to coming back again! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lowkey and beautiful retreat in wine country.

Passport Weekend 2012

A group of 5 of us stayed here for the weekend wine event known as Passport 2012. If you have never heard of the event, check it out. Well worth the trip and a lot of fun. We have nothing but great things to say not only about the house but the owner as well. The location was great just outside of downtown Healdsburg which provided easy access to all grocers, restaurants, bars, and the freeway while still being just far enough away to really have that private wine country feel. It was 5 minutes max. into town and to the event. We ate breakfast every morning on the back patio with views of grape vines, horses grazing in the nearby fields, and many species of birds at their birdhouses in the backyard. Same routine for lunch. We ate out for dinner mostly, plenty of great choices in Healdsburg or surrounding areas. When we arrived at the house there was a nice bottle of wine waiting for us. It slept the 5 of us very comfortably. The beds were quite comfortable as well with decent linens. Had satellite TV, fireplace, washer/dryer, and the large kitchen was great for entertaining. We had one issue the first morning we were there - the showers were not draining properly and either was one of the toilets. We called the owner and he was over within an hour and the plumber was on his way. He was very apologetic and offered the use of another guest house he had. Come to find out a root had found its way into one of the pipes which was causing the problems. When we got back to the house later that day everything was working fine and there were another 2 bottles of wine waiting for us to help ease the 'burden'. The point being, the owner is very attentive and really wants to make sure his guests enjoy their experience. We were so impressed we bought a Sonoma County landscape book to be used as a guest book from here on out. If you stay here you won't be dissapointed! Well worth it!

Perfect place for wine tasting trip

This was an ideal location to visit a number of excellent small, family-owned wineries. We could walk to some, and it was just a short drive to others. The owner left us an extensive list of wineries that he recommended, which was very helpful. He also provided a few bottles of wine for our first evening--greatly appreciated! The house is also an easy drive to Healdsburg, where we ate dinners and walked around--a very charming town with an incredible number of excellent restaurants. The house itself was comfortable and very thoughtfully stocked (plenty of wine glasses and corkscrews, first aid kits, easy directions for using the TV, a good supply of dinnerware, carrots for the horses). The patio was also a great place to drink morning coffee and watch the many birds attracted to the plants and feeders. I'm so glad we chose Casa Colibri!

Weekend in Wine Country

Two days in Wine Country is never enough, but Casa Colibri offered us a very comfortable stay. Conveniently located to wineries, tasting rooms and downtown Healdsburg, we wished we could have stayed longer. The horses and hummingbirds were a very nice touch! We would definitely return

we had a fantastic time staying at this home. The home is older and somewhat quirky, but we found it to be fun and unexpected. Dell is a gracious host and very responsive to anything we needed. The location in the vineyards is great with two local tasting rooms within walking distance and famous wineries within minutes by car. The two horses next door came to visit regularly seeking attention and treats. Overall, we had a great time.

Fabulous Russian River/Healdsburg Getaway

My family of four and my sister’s family of four (4 teens total) had a fabulous time staying here. We spent the day on the Russian River and it was an easy drive. The property was perfect for our families and we loved the horses next door and the plethora of birds visiting the feeders. We would definitely stay again, great owner and very responsive. Lots of sleeping spots and just a wonderful time.

What a place!!!

The place was incredible. It had all of the kitchen supplies and enough table settings for us to have luxurious dinners and big breakfasts in. With the outdoor dining table, grill, hot tub, ping pong, bocche, we spent most of our time outside relaxing, watching the birds and taking in the beautiful view. Dell was an amazing host and was very responsive. I can't wait to come back!

Lovely wine country retreat

Casa Colibri was beautiful. The house is spacious and very well equipped with kitchen equipment, glassware, and towels. We didn't do much cooking, but for what we had, we found absolutely everything we needed, much more than one typically finds in a rental house. The property is gorgeous and we enjoyed the numerous birds, the neighboring horses, and a bunny who visited each evening. We also enjoyed the hot tub and the bocce court! It was also lovely to arrive and find two bottles of wine chilling for us. Overall a very relaxing and pleasant few days which was just what we needed. We would be delighted to return in the future.

Lovely property for a girls' retreat

Our group of 6 ladies and one baby had a great time at Dell's property in Healdsburg. The photos should really be retaken because the house is so much nicer than they depict. The kitchen is the best part, with the HUGE island and nice wine cooler. We had so much fun cooking several meals together. There are plenty of beds to choose from, and it was nice to have bedrooms on both sides of the house so we could keep the baby on one side and let the others sleep on the other side in peace. The horses next door make for a fun visit in the backyard, and the hot tub was immaculate and spacious. The location of the property is fantastic, in a picturesque valley, and walking distance to some wineries. Dell was easy to communicate with - he gave us recommendations and was flexible about check-out time. We loved our stay and would definitely not hesitate to stay here again!

Fun Family get away!

The Property was well equipped to handle a group of any age. It was nice because the young family had one side of the house and we had the other. There were many lawn games that we could all play. There is a nice large room to group for meals and another for TV. The location was perfect for wineries or river activities. We also visited Old Faithful Geyser in Calistoga about 25 mins away. And made a trip to Bodega Bay. It was overall a great trip!

Perfect Getaway!

A group of 3 couples wanted to take a weekend getaway into wine country - and this property was perfect. The property is quiet, clean, and has everything you need for a stay. Dell was even kind enough to leave us carrots to feed the neighboring horses! The location is also perfect for doing bike rides (I took one on a Saturday morning) into the foothills - a couple of routes that were favorite rides of Levi Leipheimer. Can't wait to come back!
