About this property
Charming Eastside duplex
After a long day at Milwaukee's legendary music festivals, the lakefront, a visit to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, work meetings, family reunion, or whatever brings you here, we know that one of the main things you're looking for in your rental is a good night's rest! That's why we've invested in high-quality beds and bedding, extra pillows and blankets, air conditioning, and room-darkening shades to help ensure you sleep well. A portable crib is also available.
Before you turn in, wind down in the reclining sectional sofa with an episode of your favorite Netflix show on the large HD TV. And, in the morning, brew up complimentary coffee and teas with sugar, honey, half-n-half, etc. to get your day off to a good start.
The sunlit kitchen is well-equipped with pots and pans, utensils, dishes, and appliances, including a microwave for quick meals and a dishwasher for easy clean up. These amenities, together with a grocery store and bakery within walking distance, make it easy to eat in. Or, walk a pleasant four blocks to the local coffee shop, a variety of restaurants, local bookshop, and art-house theatre. There's a pharmacy nearby, too.
The kitchen open ups to a lovely sun room -- a great place to have your morning coffee or get some work done. The sunroom can also be converted into a 3rd bedroom, with twin bed, for longer stays.
The smart thermostat in the unit allows you to control your own settings for the central air conditioning and heat pump, which are powered by rooftop solar panels.
In addition to private access to this entire upper unit (up one flight of stairs from the front door), guests also have private access to the small balcony off the upper living room, including an outdoor table and chairs.
A parking space can usually be made available in a garage shared with the owners who live in the first floor unit, though most guests choose to park on the street directly outside the house. There is a (seldom enforced) 1 hr limit between 8am and 4pm on weekdays only. We will reimburse guests for fines for exceeding this limit. A permit (inexpensive) is required for overnight parking. See 'Map' for detailed notes on parking and / or contact us.
On-site laundry in shared basement laundry room is also available for guests staying longer than one week. Ask for details.

Beautiful east side Milwaukee rental. The owners thought of everything we might need. The location was perfect, parking easy, beds were super comfy! The Valentine coffee shop down the street had the best lattes! Loved our stay
A very short stay but right in the middle of what we wanted—shops, sightseeing, variety of restaurants . Timely communication with host. Parking options well presented.
Beautiful historic apartment with a great cozy vibe. Plenty of extra amenities and thoughtful touches. Lots of space, with comfortable beds and furniture. We also loved the neighborhood and the shops and restaurants on the same road. The host was responsive and very kind.
Charming eastside duplex indeed! Lovely space and lovely hosts. Walking distance to UWM campus. Felt like coming home after days of exploration. Will definitely be the first place we check for availability anytime we come to Milwaukee!
This property was great. The quintessential East Side flat. Clean and comfortable for our family. We were never lacking anything to make it feel like "home" for our long weekend. David and Janet are wonderful hosts.
My son in law and I made a quick trip to Milwaukee to see family. The location was perfect. Easy access to Downer Ave, UWM, Lake Park, and Shorewood restaurants. The host was great with communication. Place was your typical east side flat which made it very homey. Highly recommend this place to stay.

Thanks David. Glad you’d had a great trip and you are welcome back anytime.
We were in town graduation weekend and had a wonderful stay! The unit was fully stocked with everything we needed and more. The directions and guide were detailed and easy to follow. The unit was clean and beautiful. We enjoyed the comfortable beds and appreciated the opportunity to compost (even though we didn’t have much food waste). Parking was easy and the location is perfect.
The top half of a large duplex was very spacious with updated bath and kitchen but older house charm. Host was extremely responsive. Location just a few blocks from Downer Ave shops. Nice balcony area for sitting on sunny days. Fresh cream, milk and cookies on arrival. Would stay here again!
If you want to experience Milwaukee's east side - this is a perfect house and neighborhood. Even has the classic hexagonal bathroom tile, wooden French doors, and upper balcony of an east side house. Great bus access and the walkability to the lake. And the challenge of parking that defines Milwaukee - because this is a pedestrian's city. Great location on a great lake.
Ideal Stay in a Great Neighborhood in a Wonderful City!!
We needed a nice place for a long weekend stay for our first ever visit to Milwaukee. We are so glad to have found this large, bright, well maintained historic-yet-modern apartment tucked between the University of Wisconsin/ Milwaukee campus and the Downer retail village. What struck us the most is that the apartment is set up and furnished just how we would have if it were ours, and the result for us was real comfort and relaxation. The location is ideal too, with lovely ten minute walks to the university, yummy restaurants, interesting shops, a fantastic local bookstore and neighborhood grocery store and, to the east, the fine parks along Lake Michigan. The host was also a pleasure to work with, providing a write-up of great visitor tips and leaving thoughtful (and delicious) treats for us in the kitchen. We so look forward to our next stay here, it’s been a joy!!

Delighted that Donald and guests enjoyed both the apartment and the neighbourhood so much.
We were in town for the Tour of America’s Dairyland bicycle race. We found this listing that was near most by of our venues. We couldn’t have been happier. The location was great. The property was comfortable. WI street parking leaves a lot to be desired, but that’s the fault of the city of WI, not the hosts. David and Janet were great hosts. They let us use their garage out back. The floors in their place were a bit loud and I felt bad walking around late at night, but it is what it is. I highly recommend this property and host should you need something in the Upper East Side / Downer area.

It was a pleasure to host Reginald and his team mate, who were not as noisy as they imply. The creaky floorboards are part of the charm!
About the host
Hosted by David and Janet
After living in New York City, Washington DC, and London (where David is from), the next world-famous city for us to call home was Milwaukee (where Janet is from)! As recent empty nesters, we now look forward to welcoming other travelers to Milwaukee, and offer you a comfortable home to return to after your days at Milwaukee's famous music festivals, the lakefront, work meetings, family visits, or whatever brings you here.
Why they chose this property
Just blocks from beautiful Lake Michigan, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a variety of local shops including a grocery store, pharmacy, art-house theatre, bookstore, bakery, coffee shop, and variety of good restaurants, we love our quiet, walkable urban neighborhood on Milwaukee's Upper East Side. Downtown Milwaukee -- for theatre, museums, more restaurants and shops, Bucks games of concerts at Fiserve Forum, and the intermodel train and bus station -- are just a 15 minute drive or bus trip away.

That's why we've invested in high-quality beds and bedding, extra pillows and blankets, air conditioning, and room-darkening shades to ensure you sleep well. A free off-street parking space is usually available in garage shared with owners. But as the garage space is tight most guests prefer to park on the street directly in front of the house. There is a seldom enforced 1 hour parking limit between 8am and 4pm on weekdays (no limit on weekends) though we will reimburse guests for fines exceeding this limit. A permit ($1 per night plus booking fee) is required for overnight parking. Ask us for details.
On-site laundry (in shared basement laundry room) is also available for guests staying for more that one week.
We, the owners, David and Janet, live in the lower duplex. We offer you complete privacy in the upper unit, while being ready at hand to answer any questions you may have.
