Dear Per. It was super nice having you guys visit us. You are welcome back to visit us anytime! I really appreciate your suggestions for improvements and we have implemented all of them. Warm wishes to the whole family, Gretchen.
My friends and I (3 couples) stayed in this beautiful apartment in August and we will definitely be back! It's an easy drive from Milan airport, and sits in a gated estate in the hills above Barzano, a sleepy nearby town.
The apartment has clearly been refurbished recently and it's clean, well-equipped and very spacious, but still has the charm of a grand old Italian villa. The rooms all had AC, Wi-Fi and super comfortable beds. The weather was amazing so we spent our time swimming in the lovely pool, walking in the gardens and exploring the area.
It's a very quiet and private place, and we loved cooking and eating on the terrace - the property is high up in the hills and the views are astonishing.
Gretchen was incredibly helpful, and provided us with some great recommendations for restaurants and walks in the nearby forest.
Overall a very relaxing and refreshing stay.
Overall a very relaxing and refreshing stay.
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful northern Italian country retreat in August for two nights, and we genuinely wish we could have stayed longer! We had to return to my husband’s family in Genoa, but none of us wanted to leave this enchanting place.
The gardens at Poggio Verde are truly magical. Our 2 year-old daughter was in heaven, especially while being pushed on the swing overlooking a sprawling, beautiful lawn. We spent most of our time wandering through the gardens and enjoying the pool, which was equipped with all the amenities you could hope for—changing room, sunbeds, and umbrellas for shade. It was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully considered to ensure a perfect stay.
Gretchen's recommendations for activities around the villa were spot-on, and we even enjoyed a delicious pizza night in the comfort of the canopied dining table overlooking the lawn. Each room was extremely comfortable, spotless, and equipped with air conditioning, making our stay even more enjoyable.
Poggio Verde is a place where you can truly relax and unwind. I could easily spend a month here, and we will definitely be returning!
Et dejligt hus i smukke omgivelser. Poolen deles med andre.Der er fine parkeringsforhold, og værten leverede gode beskrivelser af seværdigheder og spisesteder.

It was very nice having you, Torben. Please come back! Best wishes, Gretchen.
Heel aangenaam verblijf. Prima voorzieningen en schitterend zwembad. Mooie verzichten, rustig en toch alle voorzieningen vlakbij.

About the host
Hosted by Gretchen Romig
I grew up in Kansas and met Luigi when the bank I worked for transferred me to Milan. The Poggio Verde properties have been in Luigi's family for generations. We used it a lot when our children were young but now that they are living abroad we are pleased that others might share and enjoy this beautiful place.
We have been hosting at Poggio Verde Country Villa (https://www.vrbo.com/en-gb/p3762119) for several years, with a consistent five star satisfaction level from our guests. We have recently refurbished to an excellent standard this smaller space.
Why they chose this property
Less than an hour from Milan yet immersed on a quiet green hill, this 18th c. historic building and surrounding grounds give visitors the pleasure of enjoying all the riches of the northern Italian countryside and cuisine, including a Michelin starred restaurant and several micro farm producers in the neighborhood, while at the same time giving easy access to the myriad of cultural riches of Milan and the towns of Bergamo, Lecco and Como, just to name a few. Biking along the Adda river in a charming state park is just 30 minutes away, the same distance as one of Italy's top golf courses where 4 Italian Opens have been held since 2015. Walkers and mountain climbers need drive only 40 minutes to reach the Italian Alps, and a luxury Spa treatment is merely 10 minutes away. Adorable hilltowns and lakes dot the area. Monza's royal treasure, including the iron crown with which Napoleone famously crowned himself, is right in our neighbourhood.
What makes this property unique
At Poggio Verde, when you’re not out enjoying the sports and cultural offerings in our neighborhood, you can simply stay home in our cozy historic surroundings and relax in our lovely park, take a swim in the shared pool, challenge fellow travellers to croquet or badminton or enjoy a book in the charming Roccolo surrounded by trees. The house features air conditioning and internet throughout.
Our families history in Poggio Verde begins with a deed dated November 1897 in which our great uncle Carlo Bondonio became the owner of Poggio Verde 'Green Hill', an 8-hectare property consisting of a farmhouse, a house with a barn, and a country house. The date of construction of the country house is uncertain but parts of the old farmhouse likely date from the 1500s. Photos from the early 1900s show that Poggio Verde was similar to its current appearance, but surrounded by oak forests and with a few cultivated fields.
