Overall a good place to stay, quite and good location. Clean and great outdoor space. Unfortunately the river was high during my stay so i can't attest to the fishing, though it is close by to numerous lakes which were great. Id definitely considered staying here again.
This was our 4th visit to the River Cottage. Every year we have come here to get away from the fast pace of the city. The river fishing, hummingbirds feeding and starry nights always do the trick!
We arrived at River Cottage after a multi hour flight delay and a snowy drive from Denver to find a warm and cozy spot, greeted by a beautiful bottle of wine and handwritten note from the hosts. We found everything we needed to enjoy a ski week at Wolf Creek and celebrate a family member’s landmark birthday. Thank you!
Great outside view, needs some outside clean up around property . Inside was fine, but fan in living room was out and could have used it in the daytime. Had a great time with my kids and grandkids. would stay again.
We spent a very restful week at the River Cottage for the 3rd year in a row. It never fails us. Between the cottage, the scenery and the river, one never has to leave if desired. The river was very high and running fast, but did not fail to give us a few good trout. We look forward to our next visit!

Family Vacation 2023
We brought side by sides to ride all week. Great location to stay for easy access to Southfork, Creede, Lake City or Pagossa Springs. Hard to Fly Fish on river behind house due to all the trees and bushes at rivers edge. Very peaceful on back porch listening to river. House is older and very dark feeling. Rooms downstairs on smaller side. Bedroom upstairs very roomy. Kitchen very well stocked! Owners left us a sweet note and bottle of wine.☺️ no open fires outside due to neighborhood rules. (Was sad about that.) We love Colorado and this is a great location if you will be taking advantage of all the towns!!
The location of this house is phenomenal. Fishing in the river just steps from the back porch was exactly what we were looking for.
As for the cleanliness of the property, it was not clean. Dirty toilets and floor, but the most disgusting part was the dirty sheets I got into after after a long day of driving. I reached out to the owner of the property who mentioned they would talk with the lady that cleans the place, but I should have been offered a refund of the cleaning fee as I was not provided a clean house upon arrival.
That being said, I would not return to the property again, but did overall enjoy the location and visit with friends.

Wonderful Cabin
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the River cabin. We took our 2 grandsons for a week of Colorado fun. We had a little problem with the landline phone and texted the owner, who was very responsive with the solution. WiFi in the cabin is superior!
The cabin is very private, located on a lot at the end of the subdivision. Our grandsons enjoyed the backyard and the river. They saw all sorts of fun wildlife, their favorite being 2 geese and their 6 goslings swimming by!
The cabin is very comfortable and furnished with absolutely everything you will need for your stay. It is the perfect location, close to everything, and surrounded by friendly neighbors. The upstairs has a lovely bedroom and loft area overlooking the downstairs living area and breathtaking views of the river and mountains. One side of the loft is also perfect for a hot wheels race track! I bet you didn’t know that!
Wonderful place. We will absolutely rent again when our family place is unavailable.
River cottage was the perfect location for our family vacation to wolf creek. It was just a few miles into town and about 20 minutes or so to wolf creek ski area. We have been to South Fork numerous times, and our stay at the River cottage did not disappoint. The area was beautiful! We saw lots of wildlife from the cabin windows and on our drive into south fork. Would love to come back in the summer!
The cabin was located in a wonderful scenic area . The river is out back and very easy to walk to . This is a perfect place to unplug and get away . Owners are very responsive and town is about 16 minutes up the road . The river does not have many fish during winter so I suggest going in the spring summer for fishing. Other than that , we will def be back!
This cabin was perfect for what we wanted. Good location for Creede and South Fork. Cabin was clean and had everything we needed. River front was great!
Right on the Rio Grande River. Midway between South Fork and Wagon Wheel Gap. Beautiful spot.

About the host

Both myself and my wife grew up in Colorado. I am a Firefighter in Arizona. My wife works for a major hospital system in the Phoenix area. We stay very busy with our son but do enjoy to travel and vacation as time allows.
Why they chose this property
My wife grew up in the San Luis Valley and her parents purchased the property when she was younger. She has many memories with the property as their family spent nearly every weekend and holiday there. We try to come back at least 2-3 times a year to enjoy the seasons that we miss out on living in Arizona to give our son the same memories.
What makes this property unique
You are only steps from the river on this property. We love to spend time on the deck and listen to the roar of the Rio Grande. Times spent at the cabin are relaxing and rejuvenating. It is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
