Oct and Nov are prime whale watching months! The waterfalls are spectacular now!

About Mark and Allyson Roberts
We are adventurous and love creating memorable travel experiences for couples, families and friends. I hope you like our home away from home. We currently live in Northern California in the redwoods in a 1934 log cabin. We live on a pond, 2 creeks and over 100 redwood trees. We are 20 minutes to the Pacific Ocean. 40 minutes from San Francisco. We like to snow ski, snorkel, dive and commune with nature.
Mark and Allyson Roberts purchased this House in 2015
Why Mark and Allyson Roberts chose Uvita
We love the Pacific Ocean. The view of the Bahia Ballena marine park islands is one of the best in the Southern Pacific zone of Costa Rica. We love eco-tourism. Waking to howler monkeys and seeing toucans and iguanas in the yard every day while eating breakfast is incredible. My daughter calls the home her Neverland. She loves the Scarlet Macaws and Green parrots that fly over the pool. We think easy access to adventures is important. There are steep narrow roads to most properties. Ours is a breeze by comparison. Not to underestimated as a feature. We were blown away by the foodie restaurants in the area. It is like eating in Napa or the south of France!
What makes this House unique
If you can pull yourself away from the hammocks, the pool and the view there are amazing things to explore. Snorkel at the islands in front of the house or at the whale's tale, go diving at Cano island, horseback ride to a magnificent waterfall, zipline through the jungle, go on a nature boat up the Sierpe to see amazing wildlife, rappel down waterfalls (canyoning), jump into the swimming hole below the waterfall, go deep sea fishing, kayaking in the mangroves or just walk into the primary rainforest around the house. We can help guide you to all of that and more!

One with Nature
We recommend this beautiful home. We experienced Mark and Allyson’s home as a family of five (our three kids range from 10 to 18). We woke up and had coffee each morning and watched the sun come up while two Toucans would fly and hop (they really look like they hop) above us. We enjoyed the hummingbirds in the tree near the breakfast table morning and evening. And the sounds of the jungle - monkeys, birds and bugs - were our background music as we cooled off in the pool, read in the hammocks and took walks to try and see monkeys (which was rewarded the second to the last day of our stay when we visited with monkeys in the tree just down from the house).
We loved Playa Ventanas, zip lining at Hacienda Baru, Aracari Restaurant (colorful birds and delicious meals), SIBU, and a very rainy but informative day Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary (What a View!).
I miss the views from Mark & Allyson’s home but thankfully we took plenty of videos and photos.
Mark provides a wealth of information. And, we came armed with books to read while relaxing. If you’re readers, the book selection was delightful.
I plan on heading over to Trip Adviser to give more detailed reviews of the aforementioned places along with Utiva Information Center and the magnificent OSA Waves Travel.
One last thing, we did have an encounter with a scorpion (non-poisonous); so shake things out. But even that did not dim our enthusiasm for our Costa Rica vacation in this truly beautiful house where we felt one with nature.
A piece of paradise!
Such a beautiful home, property and area! The home had every thing you could need for a great beach getaway and so many activities are within an easy drive of the home. Marc is a great host who was quick to answer when I had questions and very knowledgeable when I needed assistance planning activities! All of his recommendations were excellent. Will happily stay here again if we return to Costa Rica! Pura vida!
This location was perfect. The house was very nice it was like it’s own little resort. Pool and beautiful view with privacy made it feel like a true paradise. The owners provide a manual that made the process very stress free and lots of recommendations for food and excursions. We will be back!!
Already planning to come back
My husband and I along with two other couples spent a fantastic week at Mark and Allyson's home. The house is absolutely gorgeous with three comfortable rooms and lots of open shared space where everyone can come together or find a quiet moment alone - in the cooling pool, in the hammocks or at the outdoor table and chairs. The only sounds are birds in the trees and the howler monkeys at dawn and dusk. The kitchen is well-equipped and allowed us to cook or BBQ nearly every day. The telescope, binoculars and beach chairs and towels were extra special additions. Mark and Allyson provided extremely helpful recommendations to make the most of our holiday and Rolando make check-in and check-out a breeze. The house is an easy distance from everything you need - beautiful beaches, local grocery stores or shops, local restaurants. I'm already planning another trip back next year to spend more time. Thank you Mark and Allyson for giving us so many memories.
Our family of 5 (kids ages 12, 14, 16) stayed for one week in this beautiful home. We had plenty of room and really appreciated some of the extras that were provided (cooler, beach chairs, boogie boards, dish soap, hand soap, bath bar soap, telescope). Staying in other VRBO rentals before we know these extras are not typically provided. We really appreciated Mark’s communication and recommendations. Made for a very easy trip. Rolando was most pleasant and helpful as well. We enjoyed spending time at the house lounging in the pool and enjoying the wildlife. We were woken by Howler monkeys most mornings who we enjoyed watching in the tree right off the back yoga deck! We also saw regular parrots, parakeets, Toucans and huge Iguanas. Sunsets & Sunrises were gorgeous everyday right from the house! Uvita is a great quiet beach town. Don’t miss the Uvita waterfall- kids loved sliding down the falls, surfing was magical with Uvita 360, snorkeling & dolphin watching with Bahia Ballena Kayaks (Carlos is great- thanks Mark!) and zip lining at Osa Canopy. I would definitely recommend this rental- Mark truly cares about his guests enjoying themselves. Going on such a big trip with the kids out of the country was a bit nerve wracking, but we were put at ease after speaking to Mark & Allyson via phone before we even booked. They answered all our questions and we were set up for success for every detail of our trip using Mark’s tips and advice.
Thank you for the amazing review! The monkeys stuck around. We have been watching them from the pool for hours!
Spectacular Sunsets viewed from a fabulous home!
We loved our stay at this fabulous and spacious home! The views off the back balcony are dreamy. Sitting and enjoying coffee in the morning while watching the world come alive was mesmerizing! It was fun watching Izzy and his friends in the main tree out back along with toucans, monkeys and giant blue Morpho butterflies to name a few in the surrounding jungle. The house is just far enough out of town that you really felt like you were in your own personal oasis but close enough when you needed groceries, gas and restaurants. It's to be expected that when you stay at a vacation home and not a chain hotel there will be a few little quirks. Mark was super responsive and easy to communicate with to help resolve the small challenges. We did try a few of Mark's recommendations on beaches, restaurants & day trips and enjoyed them all. Playa Ventanas was our favorite beach from the beaches we visited. Our group agreed that our best tour ever was the day trip snorkeling with La Perla del Sur. We will definitely try and stay here when we visit Costa Rica again.
If you can pull yourself away from the hammocks or the telescope or the pool or the sweeping pacific ocean view there is a lot to explore in and around Marino Bellena. How about a nature mangrove boat tour up the Sierpe river; Snorkel in front of the house or at the Whales Tale.; Canyoning (repelling) down a series of waterfalls; Horseback riding on the beach; ATV riding up the creeks; ziplining through the jungle. We can point you to this and much more. Did I menton the quality of the local restaurants. We have you covered there as well!
