Jay Cooke Cottage: Pet friendly with park like yard, grill, fire pit with grate

We openly welcome you to the entire cottage and park like yard on jay cooke rd. We are located in a rural area in the small town of Esko, MN which is a family friendly community with forest spaces and woods between many of the residences

A few miles down the road you will find yourself in Jay cooke state park with the superior hiking trail (SHT) and the munger trail boasting several miles of rugged hiking paths and smooth blacktop paths for bikin, rollerblading etc.

The quiet neighborhood will help you enjoy star filled nights by the fire pit. Sounds of 'up north' nature and wildlife include the frogs singing in the spring. We have seen black bear off esko ramp 2024, and many bald eagles in front of the cottage 2024.

We have six camp and outdoori chairs, with outdoor and patio furniture including a hammock. This is your escape from the cities hustle and bustle but close enough to duluth mn and superior, wi or makes a great base to the north snd south shore.

Jay Cooke Cottage invites all outdoor enthusiasts to partake in miles of mountain biking, rollerblading, birding, hiking, nature trails, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, disc golf, horse trails, fishing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, rock hounding, kayaking, paddle boarding, great photography and much more.

Our kitchen is supplied with any utensil you would need to cook a meal for your whole family or group.

We have a coffee pot that brews by the pot or uses k-pods. If you wish to cook outside we have a charcoal grill and freestanding grill for over the fire pit.

The cottage was freshly redone in 2024 including local nature art, Himalayan salt lamps, secondary lighting, essential oil diffusers and a zen nature vibe.

Easy to get to, feels remote!

We had a great time in this cozy cabin! It rained when we may have been outside so we didn’t get to use the fire pit but it was nice to have a comfy place inside to cook and recover after a long day of hiking and exploring. We knew it was close to Jay Cooke but it’s ridiculously close! Super convenient without the hassle of staying in the park. Owners were super responsive throughout as well! Highly recommend.

Quick getaway

My partner and I stayed here for two night just to get away from the cities for a birthday. It was very clean and comfy! The communication from the owners was amazing and also included so many great recommendations!! The property wasn’t quite as private as I expected (immediate neighbors) but that also could have been due to the trees not being filled in. Still a great stay and we would return :)

Very nice cabin, great owners!

We had to come to town for a family emergency and Mike and Andrea were great! I met Mike when I got there since I was early and he was extremely helpful. I drove 22 hours straight and Mike let me get in early and gave me some good information on some restaurants and things in the area. Andrea had communicated with me the night before about the weather and some other information and they were both very helpful! Cabin was neat and clean. Very cute little place. Would stay again if the opportunity presents itself!

I had some issues with being new to VRBO but they were helpful through it.The house is right down the road from Jay Cooke Park and it’s SO cute.

Overall good experience

Went up for snowmobiling, it’s really close to some good trails.wasn’t a big deal but had a little issue with some plumbing that was totally out of their control and not their fault . But they went above and beyond and they took care of it asap and gave us gift card for a local restaurant for the inconvenience. We will rent again when/ if come back up for snowmobiling

I wanted a nice little place to stay and unwind before classes started for the semester. I found this cute little listing and became incredibly excited! I really enjoyed the place and the area! Amazingly accommodating

The hosts were amazingly accommodating! Our trip was delayed due to weather and they were able to extend our stay and help us out greatly. The property was very private and comfortable and nice for our dogs. It was incredibly clean and we would recommend staying there to anyone. We look forward to staying again in the future!

Quick Christmas Getaway

We absolutely enjoyed our 2 night stay. I surprised the family with a quick getaway as an early Christmas gift. Mike & Andrea were great. About a week or so before our stay they sent us things to do in the area and they were in communication with us the whole trip to make sure everything was going well. The cottage is the cutest little place and very clean and accommodating. Except for the groceries they had everything we could possibly have needed including a Christmas tree for the holiday season. We would absolutely stay there again on our next trip to the Duluth/Superior area.

Adoreable little place, with everything needed for comfort. We had some fires and they did have some fire starters, wood and chairs for us.they had some essential oils and cute diffuser, an air cleaner and fans in each room. Very close to jay Cooke state park, quiet and peaceful.

This cozy small house was a perfect fit for little getaway with our daughter and son in law. It was fun to just get away for a few days and make some memories. It was a short drive to Duluth. I have been living in this particular area for over 13 years and am more than happy to tell you the best places to put boats in to where you can potentially find local swimming holes off of the superior hiking trail to the new beach on the st louis river. I love showing off the west side of recreation from spirit mountain.

Why they chose this property

I like that we are in the small and safe town of Esko, MN. The neighborhood has so much space for privacy and acres between most houses.. some great mt biking or road biking trails, kayaking the st louis river, to hiking the superior hiking trail are all close by. I feel grateful and honored to be able to share the experience this area offers.

It is nice to have a short cut to Duluth through Jay Cooke State Park to Chambers Grove, Mission Creek, the Boy Scout boat Landing and the munger boat landing as well. Good fishing options all around.

What makes this property unique

There are bears in the area and we have spotted many bald eagles on the property. Our cottage is in Esko, MN not the west end of duluth compared to many other short term vacation rentals which brings a more restful vibe to your stay with less people to worry about. You are in a peaceful and recharging outdoor setting with the comforts of home with a loaded kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom with Minnesota charm directly outside Jay Cooke State Park.
