Private Stone Cottage with Starlink & Lake Views - Remote Workers' Dream!
Unwind in an authentic Umbrian stone farmhouse discreetly tucked into a hillside of old-growth olive groves with stunning views of Lake Trasimeno. Perched in your swinging chair in your private garden, be soothed by bird calls while you relax or remote work with lightning-fast Starlink satellite internet. When it's time to play, you won't have far to go! You're just a stone's throw from the Tuscan/Umbrian border and its many historic hill towns, hot springs, local markets, restaurants and shops.
My country house is particularly well-suited for those wanting to take easy day trips (hamlet-hopping anyone?) to fascinating places like Cortona, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Orvieto, Spello, Assisi, Pienza, Perugia, Passignano, Castiglione del Lago, Cetona, Panicale, and many more. My home is located just a quick 7-minute drive to the Terontola-Cortona train station, which has a direct line to both Florence and Rome for easy airport access. It's also a quick 40-minute drive from the Perugia airport, very convenient for those flying in and out of London or other European cities. From the Terontola-Cortona station, you can park your car for free overnight and easily get to the great art cities of Florence, Siena, Rome, and more.
For those who want to stay local, cycling is a huge draw to Lake Trasimeno with endless country roads and paved trails all around the lake. You can rent e-bikes for the day or arrange to have them delivered to the house for your entire stay. Of course, there is always my favorite local free activity, hiking up the hill to the famed Castello di Montegualandro for amazing views of the lake, our little village, and the many surrounding hamlets.
This private sanctuary, immersed in tranquility and natural beauty, invites you to slow down and enjoy life's simple pleasures. Out front, a large pergola draped in wisteria beckons you outside to lounge in its shade. Linger into the evening and enjoy an aperitivo and/or dinner al fresco as the sun sets over Lake Trasimeno. Stay even longer for amazing star gazing.
Inside, natural sunlight and fresh country air stream through screened windows. On hot summer days, these centuries-old stone walls, together with air conditioning units both upstairs and down, keep the house pleasantly cool.
This recently restored two hundred-year-old farmhouse features original terracotta tiles, scalloped ceilings, and a large open hearth stocked in the colder months (or upon request) with firewood for your evenings. Recent restorations include all new electrical and central heating, independent air conditioning units, a continuous water filtration system for clean and potable well water, new septic, all new appliances, and again, the oh-so-zippy Starlink satellite internet with indoor/outdoor WiFi. Enjoy many modern conveniences while immersing yourself in an authentic rustic environment.
The entire property, including a very welcoming front patio with lake views and a small back patio for container gardening and yoga is for your exclusive use, relaxation and enjoyment. There's also a large piece of land where the additional parking is that's great for kids to play in. The front garden, with its beautiful wisteria-covered pergola, offers a variety of sun and shade seating options. An outdoor couch and two hanging chairs are perfect for lounging. A table with seating for six as well as a small bistro table offer additional seating for your meals together. A small smokeless charcoal grill located in the back patio cabinet is also available for your use. The pergola, upon request, can be draped in white curtains for additional shade, providing a wonderful ambiance during the hottest summer moments. There is also a small back patio accessed through the downstairs bedroom or from the side of the house. Please help yourself to the tomatoes, lettuce, and zucchini flowers grown for your pleasure. Please feel free to water all plants and care from them as you like. Two yoga mats can be found in the downstairs bedroom.
Although there is a small private driveway in front of the house, it is only big enough for one compact car. Feel free to unload bags and groceries from there, but please use the safe and well-lit additional parking provided on my land adjacent to the house. A barrel planter and sign mark the spot. Thank you for not parking on the street as tractors sometimes use the area to access their fields.
Although my home can easily access so many great Umbrian and Tuscan destinations, it truly is in the countryside, surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, cypresses, and working farms. Although there are a handful of other residents in my borgo, you will have the added benefit of feeling secluded while not actually being isolated. Most of my neighbors grow their own food, make their own wine, olive oil and even prosciutto! It's likely you could be invited to pick some vegetables from the garden or sample the oils and wines from my various generous-hearted neighbors. Just remember to say "Buongiorno!" when you see them and always be friendly!
AnnaLisa is my property manager and your local point person to contact for all household manners. Together with her husband, Riccardo, they handle everything from housekeeping to gardening to technical issues. They live just 20 minutes away in Cortona and can quickly assist with most matters. AnnaLisa can also arrange for a local private chef to cook for you and suggest numerous other recommendations for wine tasting and sight seeing.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Vaughan
I'm a small town girl from Oklahoma who got a taste of the world and never looked back. I've lived in 7 countries and counting. l love immersing myself in different environments to experience their authenticity.
Why they chose this property
Italy has always been my No.1. I lived on Lake Como as a young woman for 6 years. I built a life and relationships, and was sorry when I had to go. Some places you never can really leave. Italy is that place for me. Now, almost 40 years later, I've come home!
What makes this property unique
It's authenticity in a small borgo steeped in local traditions. The locals' kindness to share their world with me. The light. The constant sound of birds chirping. The sunsets. Fresh produce grown by neighbors and now myself. A home that's very welcoming to all who enter.
