About this property
Beautiful Log Cabin on Remote Lake, with Limited Public Access.
Experience the solitude and beauty of the Boundary Waters with the comforts of home in this new log cabin on Winchester Lake.
Truly off the grid, this cabin offers a rustic experience with the convenience of refrigeration and power. The cabin is solar powered with automatic generator backup. With no phone or internet, you really 'get away' from technology distractions. The cabin offers one bedroom on the main floor, a large loft and two bedrooms on the lower level. The loft has two futon couches that can convert to beds for additional sleeping. There is a 3/4 bath on the main floor and a full bath in the lower level. Cabin offers a deck with gas grill and seating. Take in the evening sounds of nature as you warm by the campfire and roast a marshmallow or two. Firewood supplied.
On this remote Boundary Waters style lake we generally find ourselves the only ones on the lake. So that great fishing spot is always available. This lake is full of small mouth bass, you can barely get your pole in before there is a fish on your line. Over a five year range the DNR stocked this deep lake with over 15,000 lake trout. Other fish include northern pike, walleye, perch and sunfish. The lake offers limited boat access. A 14ft. fishing boat with motor and a Canoe are included with rental.
Up in the north woods, we regularly see eagles and loons while enjoying the lake. In the evening you may hear the hoot of an owl or a wolf howling at the moon. Moose, deer, bear, beavers, and other small critters find their homes around our property.
Whether a couple looking to get back to nature or a family looking to spend quality time, your time at Winchester Lake is sure to be memorable.
Must discuss remote location with owner before reservation being approved

This cabin was exactly what we expected and wanted. It was and felt secluded in the woods with a nice quiet lake to have fun on with the family. The convenience of having a canoe, paddle boat, and a jon boat onsite for us as guests was great and allowed us to enjoy the most out of the lake. The cabin itself was clean, cozy, with enough space for us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It’s a beautiful log home on a lovely, peaceful, private lake! It’s decorated like it’s in a magazine! The kitchen has everything you need! The living area is comfortable and cozy, as is the lower family room. We loved the deck! The loft and lower level provided space for everyone to have their own area! The fishing boat has been refinished and is gorgeous. We all enjoyed fishing!! We played games and relaxed! It’s well stocked with books and movies, too. Dave is a professional and responsive host! We look forward to coming back!!!!
Our family of 5 had an absolute blast! The cabin and property are so beautiful and there is so much to do. We are looking forward to returning in the future.
We had a fabulous week at Winchester Lake. Location was remote, on a quiet lake, just as described. Cabin is beautiful, well-appointed and clean. Excellent communication. Would love to make another trip back!
Another great week in the woods on Winchester Lake! This property is well maintained with beatiful surroundings and very private. Would definitely recommend.
We absolutely loved our trip! This was our second time and it won’t be the last. The property is quiet and secluded. We saw a lot of wildlife and had a couple deer right out front. I wish we could have stayed longer!
Peak fall colors, peak grouse hunting, and great fishing. We saw a moose, lots of eagles, lots of migrating swans, and plenty of other wildlife. The cabin and property were immaculate as always.
Excellent facilities. We had the entire lake to ourselves for two weeks. Fishing was awesome. Cabin was clean and very comfortable. The only issue is that the road to the cabin is an unmaintained forestry road which is very bumpy and lots of potholes.
This is our third time back and every single time has been wonderful. The location is beautiful, the cabin has everything we need and the lake is peaceful. We love just hanging out at the cabin / lake all day and on rainy days, there is so much to do in the surrounding area. We always see so much wildlife too, including a mink crossing the road near the cabin this trip!
This was our fourth time staying at this property and we will be back again! The cabin is always very clean and welcoming. Our group enjoyed the games, the boats, and having the lake to ourselves. Dave is always very responsive and helpful.
It’s worth the trip! The cabin is gorgeous and thoughtfully outfitted. Supplies are all included and dishes and pots and pans are good quality. When we arrived the place was spotless and the furniture comfortable. And the fishing was fantastic!
We loved our stay in this exceptionally clean and well-appointed cabin. The woods and lake were beautiful. Great views of both sunrise and sunset from the dock — and a bonus view of the full moon from the welcoming backyard and fire pit. We had all our questions answered quickly before we left, and we found everything we needed to cook and make ourselves comfortable. My elderly parents had predicted they would be cold, but with both the wood and gas fire places lit, we all stayed plenty warm (and one night’s outdoor temps dipped into the 20’s.) We were glad to have vehicles that could easily manage the tooth-rattling entry road! Those last few miles (not to mention the cabin and its setting) reinforced our plan to stay put, slow down, and enjoy our surroundings all week.
Once again peak fall colors. We had our first frost at the beginning of the trip which really accelerated the color change. Hiked 4-5 miles every day grouse hunting with the dogs. Bounced around miles of trails in the side-by-side. Plenty of bonfires at sunset, it was warm most of our stay. We only fished off the dock not from the boat this trip. Cabin and property were immaculate as always!
Wow!! What a gorgeous remote property!! We absolutely LOVED it! The house was so nice and super clean! It had all the amenities you needed. Bedding was soft, beds were comfortable, beautiful view and property. We had a fire and fished almost every day. The paddle boat was super fun and the fishing was great. We were the only ones on the entire lake, like it was our own private lake! The owners were excellent and so great with communication and making sure we were taken care of. We highly recommend this place if you are looking to get away from everything, spend time in nature, and stay at a little piece of heaven. Thank you so much for sharing your property with us! We won't forget it :)
My wife and I spent 12 days at this cabin. Upon our arrival, we were not only immediately impressed by the cabin and the setting, but the extraordinary attention to detail inside and out. The place is immaculately maintained, and has a tremendous welcoming appeal. The kitchen is fully stocked and has literally everything one needs. The cleanliness was spectacular! Honestly as clean or cleaner than any hotel I’ve ever stayed at.The lake is very serene, and I was the only person ever fishing, having the entire lake to myself. The fishing was pretty good, as I mainly focused on Smallmouth Bass. I did have to put in effort to catch them, using multiple presentations. But I did catch some very nice fish. The Sunfish are plentiful, ranging in the small to medium size. We had two great fish fry’s and they were delicious. We did have boat motor issues that led to me having to mainly use the canoe for fishing. I immediately reached out to Dave (owner) when I discovered the issue. Dave responded immediately and worked from afar trying to resolve the issues, which included having a mechanic come out twice to work on it. In the end, it needed parts that didn’t arrive until we departed. Dave and Deb immediately refunded a portion of our rental fee due to the boat issues. Very refreshing honesty and integrity!! As others have stated, the road to the cabin is very rocky, and u must have an SUV or truck to traverse, but definitely worth the drive!!!
14-days total. Peak fall colors. Good grouse hunting, fishing, hiking, and exploring. Miles of logging and fire roads to explore on wheelers. As always the cabin is immaculate and constantly improving. We saw our first ever Great Horned Owl on this trip, up close, amazing 10 minutes of wonderment.
Dave is a great host! The property was perfect for our group. Cabin was super clean, plenty of space, newer appliances that all worked great. Fishing was good. Lots of fun!
A perfect stay once again! This was our 5th time here. We do a lot of adventuring with our two boys and have used VRBO for many years. Dave’s cabin is absolutely our favorite place to stay. If you love nature and peace this is exactly where you want to be! Dave is very accommodating and wonderful to work with. We cherish our time with our boys on Winchester Lake. It truly is one of our favorite places on Earth! Cabin is stocked, plenty of life jackets, great swim platform, nice dock, perfect little fishing boat, and most importantly beautiful scenery everywhere you turn! The night sky is amazing as the cabin is quite close to Voyaguers National Park which is an internationally recognized dark sky park! Highly recommend!!
Dave and Deb Lindroth purchased the land in fall of 2003 with plans of building a log cabin. Three kids and two dogs later, we decided our camper was too small and we were ready to build that log cabin. Cabin was built in 2011.
Why they chose this property
We enjoyed camping in the Boundary Waters every summer and found this location to give the Boundary Waters experience combined with some comforts of home. We wanted a cabin where we weren't looking into the neighbor's window. On our 40 acre plot, with 1300 ft shoreline we have found that.
What makes this property unique
With the many distractions in life, we have found our cabin the place to get away and enjoy our family while experiencing the many
