The home is very clean and fully equipped with everything anyone would need. We really enjoyed our stay there. Very peaceful! So close to Lawrence for restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
This is a great VRBO property. The owners have smartly modernized it without compromising any of its significant, historical charm. An example: each bedroom has plenty of power outlets for charging devices. The kitchen is modern, with a great coffee bar in the adjacent pantry. The homestead is clean and has plenty of room. Three of the bedrooms have east-facing windows but the curtains effectively block the rising sun.As advertised, the property is just minutes to Mass Street and to campus. It may seem far from town when looking at a map, but it's not. The property is peaceful and quiet. The Baker Wetlands are a 3-minute drive away, so walkers and runners have a nice place to visit nearby. The owners are responsive and provide easy directions for checking in and out. The wi-fi works, as does all the technology. This is a great place for a weekend visit to KU and Lawrence.
Our stay was fantastic. The property was beautiful and peaceful. The house is amazing and they’ve done an excellent job with their remodel. The stove broke while we were there and they had a new one in place in less than two hours. Great host fantastic place. Thank you so so much.

We had a wonderful time at this lovely historic home in a peaceful country setting, but also close to town. So beautifully decorated with attention to every detail: comfortable beds, charming accents, and everything was immaculately clean. The hosts were responsive and helpful. I hope to stay here again!

This was such a great spot - barely outside the south end of town but feeling like you are in the country. House was very well appointed, spacious, with a very updated feel. I would definitely stay there again!
This was our second visit to the farm house and it again was a great experience. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place for a family getaway. It’s so close to everything but in a quiet setting. They have thought of every detail.

This is such an adorable house and great place to stay. Host is quick to respond and eager to make your stay seamless. House is very clean and stocked with all the essentials plus many more things. We loved the coffee bar. Quiet surroundings allowing us to escape the college crowd but still be close to visit campus. Would love to stay here again.

The place is great. Plenty of room, nice and quiet, and beautiful land. It was an excellent house for us to rent with our friends as we dropped our sons off at college. We will try and stay there again.

It was the cutest farmhouse! The host was extremely communicative and responsive. My friends and I had an amazing stay! Thanks so much!
The beds were very comfortable, would have preferred a Barbeque grill instead of a smoker, managers responded very quickly with answers to our questions, high marks for the coffee/tea area off the kitchen, and a great place to be if you want to be in the country but close to town. We have stayed in a lot of VRBO houses and we give it an A++.

A family get together for a couple of days. The property is easy to find. It was interesting to find out about this historic property. The house was renovated and yet they kept the old farmhouse flavor! Enjoyed sitting on the wide front porch. Close to Lawrence so it was easy to find places to eat

Historical home very convenient to the town of Lawrence.
Wonderful accommodations. House is 140+ years old and charming. Beautiful large front porch to sit and drink your coffee in the mornings. Walking distance to Baker Wetlands. House is within a minute’s drive to Lawrence so it is very convenient but feels like you are in the country.

So glad you had a great stay! We would love to host you and your friends again!
I can’t say enough great things about this wonderful farmhouse and what a great location it was for our reunion of college friends! The house has been so tastefully renovated and decorated. It was so fun for us to spend time together around the large dining room table (something not always available at short-term rentals) and comfortable living room. The outdoor spaces are charming, but unfortunately, the weather was so hot we didn’t sit out very much. Maybe next time! Dani was immediately responsive and helpful - both before and during our stay. These are great property owners who have beautifully restored a little piece of Kansas history. We hope to stay there again!

This property is beautiful and had everything we needed for our family. We especially loved the extra touches, such as the coffee bar set up. We loved sitting in the front porch in the morning. The bedrooms were spacious with comfortable beds. The location was perfect since it was within a few minutes of our college daughter’s apartment but away from the business of town.Thank you so much. We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Danielle Flory
I am originally a Missouri girl, but moved here after meeting my husband 6 years ago. My favorite daily activity is spending time with my 2 year old, and helping my husband around his family’s farm. I have loved hosting this VRBO and hearing where our guests are from and what brought them to town.
Why they chose this property
We actually have farmed the land north of the Wakarusa River for years, and had the opportunity to purchase the home a couple of years ago. We bought the home from Billy Meairs, whose grandparents homesteaded the land in 1854. We decided the home and property had way too much charm and history to not jump on board with a short term rental. We loved the access to town, yet the fact that we were still in a more tucked away peaceful area.
What makes this property unique
Our property is unique in all the history that it holds. It was a part of Quantrill’s path during his raid in 1863. The original house was lit on fire, but not destroyed, but then in 1878 the original Meairs family built the home guests stay in now. The home has had few major changes since its start, making it so fun to learn about!
