The Space:

Welcome to the Hawthorne Hangout!

We are tucked right into the heart of the SE Hawthorne district with a 99 Walk Score—which is basically a local’s way of saying you won’t need your car keys.

Step out the front door and you’re minutes away from the legendary Bagdad Theater, the shelves of Powell’s Books, and more vintage shops and food carts than you can fit into one weekend. If you need to head across the bridge to Downtown or the Pearl District, you’re only about a 9 minute drive away.

The Setup

We’ve recently remodeled this 2-bedroom duplex to be the perfect home base for families, work trips, or a weekend getaway with friends.

Sleep tight: We have three brand-new beds with super soft down comforters and plenty of pillows. 2 private bedrooms with queen size and 1 double bed tucked into a living room nook.

Stay charged: No hunting for outlets—the nightstands have built-in USB ports for your phones and gear.

Eat in: Our kitchen has shiny new stainless appliances and a big table that seats 6. We’ve stocked it with plenty of coffee pods, cookware, and dishes to make your mornings easy.

Little Extras We Love

We want you to feel at home the second you walk in. You’ll find a gas fireplace for cozy nights, a Smart TV for Netflix marathons, and board games for a rainy afternoon. We’ve even included an interactive map where you can pin where you’re visiting from! We also provide all the essentials—shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and laundry soap—so you can pack light.

A Quick Heads-Up

Parking: We have a private driveway with room for two cars, which is a total lifesaver in this neighborhood!

Access: There’s a short flight of stairs to get inside.

The Vibe: We love being in the middle of the action, but since it’s a vibrant urban area, you’ll definitely hear the "hum" of the city and nearby traffic.

Guest Access:

🔑 Self check-in with smart lock - arrive on your schedule

📶 High-speed Wi-Fi throughout

🚗 Free Parking for 2 vehicles in the driveway

Everything you need for a comfortable stay is already set up. If anything comes up, we're a quick message away.

The Neighborhood:

Often compared to San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, Portland’s Hawthorne District is renowned for its vintage shops, restored theaters, street performers, and vibrant creative characters. This eclectic mix makes it one of the city’s top destinations for both locals and visitors. Adding to its charm, the neighborhood boasts a standout food scene, making a day spent on the bustling Southeast street an effortless delight.

Getting Around:

🚶 Walking — This neighborhood sits between the Division and Hawthorne corridors, two of Portland's best streets for dining and shopping — both within easy walking distance.

🚌 Bus — TriMet Route 2 (Division) and Route 75 (Cesar Chavez) provide frequent service to downtown (~15 min).

🚲 Biking — BIKETOWN bike-share stations nearby. Portland's bike lane network makes cycling easy and safe.

🚗 Driving — Free street parking available (read signs for restrictions). Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) typically arrives in under 5 minutes.

✈️ Airport — PDX is about 14 minutes by car or a quick MAX + bus connection.

Other Things to Note:

** Please note this property requires steps to the front door

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday weekend. Upon arrival, the parking space designated for our truck was already occupied by other vehicles. I immediately took photos and notified the homeowner. We were told they would reach out to neighbors to resolve the issue. After leaving for the evening and returning later that night, there were even more vehicles blocking the space. I again sent photos and was told we could park down the street and apologized for the inconvenience. At that point, it became apparent there was an upstairs rental, indicating the property is a duplex—this was not disclosed in the listing. We also observed a travel trailer in the backyard with people living in it, as well as a run-down van parked directly next to the master bedroom with additional occupants. These conditions were unexpected and concerning. The home is located on a very busy street, which combined with the parking issues and undisclosed shared property, significantly impacted our stay. When I raised these concerns and suggested a small gesture—such as a partial refund of the cleaning deposit—I was told to contact VRBO for compensation rather than receiving any resolution from the host. This was an unfortunate experience. A simple acknowledgment and minimal compensation would have gone a long way, but the host’s response was dismissive and unprofessional.
