Beautiful base for a summer holiday
We spent a wonderful holiday in this traditional provencal house. It has lots of luxuries to make your stay special. The location is perfect for relaxing days at home with a pool, vast grounds and a cosy fireplace. At the same time it is ideally situated for touring the region with towns like Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and Cassis as well as the Côte d'Azur at close hand. We really enjoyed our time at the "Mas du Philosophe" and will be back soon.

A return to tranquility
Another great stay in this wonderful house.  It’s an island of tranquility surrounded by Nature, with a beautiful view over the tree tops. Never tire of its charming mixture of tradition and comfort. Everything needed to get away from it all while being able to dip back into the world outside whenever you want. Well-equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi, nice big fire - it's got all we need really. Nicely off the beaten track but within easy, rapid reach of the main Provence towns. Always feel we have our own private little clearing in a majestic wood!

Great location & totally relaxing
Our group of 4 foodies stayed there over the summer and had an AMAZING time. The house itself is quite spacious and the grounds feel like you're in your own private forest. The orchard, the pool, the patio and the house itself made us really not want to leave! The location is great: convenient to the coast but also to other parts of Provence. We made quite a few day trips to the lavender fields, as well as local vineyards. We hoped to cook frequently and were very pleased by the very well appointed kitchen. The Sunday market in Gardanne was incredible, and on other days the Carrefour and bakery, fruit stand and butcher shop in Gardanne was only 10-15 mins away. Francoise was an incredible host – providing lots of tips and suggestions even before we arrived. There was a minor issue with the circuit breaker tripping a couple of evenings but they fixed this very rapidly and it didn’t take away from the trip. We look forward to returning soon to Philosophe!

Wonderful stay in Provence
Our 3rd stay at this property. What I imagine is a typical Provence country house. Spacious and full of character, traditional yet with all mod cons. Off the beaten track - when you're on the veranda you feel like you're sitting next to your own private wood so quiet moments and evenings watching the sunset in the distance or calm silence broken only by cheeping birds in the morning when you're trying to wake up. But close enough to whatever type of action you may fancy, as long as you've got a car. A series of picturesque villages on the way into Aix-en-Provence which is only about 15 kilometres away, as is Marseilles with its nightlife and wonderful port. Great to be able to feel so out of the hustle and bustle of things but to be able to dive into it when you want. Another plus point's the pool, which is great in the summer though the weather just after Christmas this time was warm enough to use it too (much to our surprise).

About the host

British and French mixed couple, in love with Provence, sun, sea and good hiking areas. Lived in Italy and East Africa for many years we finally found our home sweet home !

Why they chose this property

Perfectly located between the fabulous seaside and the mountains, we enjoy also the cultural aspect and of course the French cuisine.

What makes this property unique

Very well situated near highway access, airport (20 mn) and Aix TGV station (fast train: 3 hours to reach Paris). Great local market 3 times a week in the nearby village. Absolute silence and privacy. Refreshing pool and tree house for fun. Concerts and festivals with international artists and the not to be missed Aix Festival (classic). Original language movies in many cinemas around. Welcome to Provence !
