While walking through the gardens, my daughter turned to me and said, “Dad, this is the most beautiful place you’ve ever taken me.” We made a pact to visit each other here at the African Queen around this same time every year. I’ll sum my stay up in 4 words: beauty, rest, healing & love.

A beautiful and unique home

The home was so beautiful and unique! The grounds were spectacular and the fountain was mesmerizing. We enjoyed the beautiful landscaping from every window. It was breathtaking! The table tennis was a welcome surprise!

The Afriican Queen is an amazing property and what a privilege that it is shared as a VRBO! It is certainly unique and has so many special touches, like the King and Queen plush bath robes. I only marked down on the check-in process because I would have liked the info a little sooner than the day before, just to help in the planning, and in the cost, just because of the 1500 refundable deposit. But I also understand many items on the property are one-of-a-kind—like the lights made of huge horns. One suggestion— I think it would help if labels were put on the light switches. There are so many of them and it is hard to find which ones go with what light. Also, a little more thorough directions on running some things would be helpful, like the dishwasher start button is on the right even though it says start on the left as well. Overall, what an amazing time, and the beaver family in the pond made it magical!! I would suggest not coming in the middle of a drought, but the landscaping was still pretty amazing! Good job on keeping all of those plants alive!! The rain the last day was a welcome relief and added to the beauty! A note on that, the sliding glass door area in front did allow quite a lot of water in from the rain. It didn’t hurt the floor, but I thought the owner would want to know that. I think it leaked from the top between the door and wall. But the wind did blow hard for a while. We will not forget our awesome time!! What a joy!!!

This could be a 10 out of 10, look at the pictures. But I’m only going to give it a 7 out of 10. -2 because the floors were very dirty. If you walked barefoot from one side of the house to the other the bottom of your feet were black with dirt. Several areas had big cobwebs up on the ceiling. -1 more for several minor maintenance items seamed neglected.

Peaceful retreat in the heart of Springfield Close to shopping, restaurants, highways and easy to find! Enjoyed with grandkids daily visits —running in the grass, listening to birds and bullfrogs, watching deer climb down the bluff and playing in puddles in the spillway. I loved drinking coffee by the fountain in early morning!! My husband enjoyed the hot tub and giving fishing lessons to the oldest granddaughter
