We absolutely loved this place and location. My teenage twins used the front room with extremely comfy beds, I slept in the extra room/converted garage, the owners provide many extra sleeping pads, blankets and all needed for restful sleep. We spent many hours on the gorgeous patio oasis, soaking in jacuzzi and enjoying the view towards the ocean. We literally were in our swim suits and barefoot for 4 days straight, just walk up to beach, come back for snacks and food. We loved how it's nestled right in the middle, between Mission Beach busy rides area and Pacific Beach pier. We also enjoyed walking distance to many restaurants on the strand and Mission Beach Blvd. Kitchen stocked with everything you need, bathroom as well, plenty shower towels and beach towels as well. We will be back!!!

Long Weekend Anniversary Getaway

My wife, daughter, and I absolutely enjoyed our stay here. The house is in a perfect location, very well throughout amenities, and the patio/hot tub with ocean views is the icing on the cake. We definitely plan to stay here again!

Lovely Beach Stay

We've rented this property a couple of times now and really enjoy the ocean view from the patio, the hot tub, easy access to the beach (open ocean side even), and the friendly owners. It's likely that we'll be back to rent it again.

Fantastic Property in Mission Beach!

We stayed at the Salem Surf Sanctuary for spring break this year. The property is very well kept and is in a fantastic location. We highly recommend staying here if you plan to visit San Diego / Mission Beach!

Overall, great location and really nice rental. It’s an older home, but well kept and very clean. The home has everything you needed including baby supplies. Location was excellent, close to the beach and restaurants. Hot tub was a great amenity with a view of the ocean.

Excellent seaside treasure!!

Our stay at this wonderful ocean view cottage was unbelievable. The outside deck with hot tub was so awesome for relaxing evenings enjoying the cool breeze and sounds of the ocean waves! Inside is beautifully decorated with all new furniture and everything that you would ever need is there. Thank you Larry and Andrea for making us feel at home. Private Oasis, Steps to the Beach

We had a great and relaxing stay at this property. The house is perfect for 2 people (might be crowded with 4 adults.) Location is perfect with restaurants and shops a few blocks away. Patio is unbeatable— you can see the ocean from the hot tub. Larry was very communicative and on top of everything in the weeks leading up to our stay. Would highly recommend this to any couple or small family looking for a nice and charming getaway. We will be back!

Bright and cheery

Loved the deck and it’s view of the ocean from the hot tub. The place was surprisingly rooms and the many little amenities were great, especially the beach chairs, umbrellas and toys. Only complaint- it was hard to get the bedroom cooled off on some of the days, because there was no cross ventilation back there.

Love this house....

We have stayed at this property many times this was the first time we stayed for a whole week. Very close to the beach the house is supplied with everything. Grocery stores , liquor stores and restaurants are walking distance. We really enjoyed waking up eating breakfast looking at the ocean on the patio and eating dinner watching the sunset. The best part of it is relaxing in the spa after a long day in the sun. Larry and Andrea are amazing host.

Charming, cozy, cottage with a view.

We loved this house. It is about 50 steps to the ocean with a view of the water from the large deck. The house is one of the original little houses in Mission Beach with much of the original charm remaining. There is a gorgeous leaded glass window in the dining area and a stained glass window over the bed. The house is small but has everything one would want or need., including the hot tub on the deck. It is delightful and Larry, the owner, was very solicitous.

Perfect cozy beach bungalow

This place is GREAT-book it NOW! The owners are incredibly hospitable and the house is immaculately clean and well put together. The deck is awesome and the view is better than what you see in the photos. The hot tub is exactly what you need after taking the kids to the SD Zoo and Legoland all day! The location is perfect and you are pretty close to accessing both the 8 and 5 freeways. My wife and I used to live in San Diego (I also used to live in Pacific Beach) and this house and the vacation memories we built with our kids while staying here will last a lifetime. The only question my wife and I had after staying here was why did we ever leave San Diego?

Too good to be true!

This house surpassed all expectations that I had. Close enough to the action in Belmont and PB, but was also quiet and peaceful at night. The view from the patio is much better than I anticipated. The sand is literally 30 yards away and you have a clear view of the waves coming in from the table/hot tub/grill. The beach closest to the house was never crowded, even on Saturday when the beach at Belmont was packed. The house had everything we needed, including a mini swamp cooler that kept the house comfortable during the day. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

FABULOUS location!!

We really enjoyed our time at Salem Surf!!! Larry was SO responsive and attentive to any of our inquiries. We used the hot tub every night, and it was such a nice relaxing way to end the day, that really made this place a game changer and stand out to us! It was a perfect location (literally steps to the beach), and easy walking distance to Belmont and the Pacific Beach pier area. In addition, it was a short drive to downtown, La Jolla, the zoo, etc, so very convenient location all around. There were also plenty of cute little restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance that had delicious food and a great atmosphere. The towels and linens were all so fresh and clean (and seemed new!), and the place had all of the necessities we needed - he even had kids plates and glasses, which was great since we were traveling with two little ones. Overall, the place was clean and welcoming, and we would definitely recommend this rental to anyone wanting to enjoy a nice relaxing getaway to San Diego!! For the price, it really can't be beat.

A San Diego gem

My husband and I just finished a fantastic two weeks at Salem Surf Sanctuary, and we have never had a better experience with a vacation rental. Larry and Andrea have truly thought of everything, from usual items like beach chairs all the way down to a savings card for the local grocery store (on the refrigerator, in case you're looking for it)! The house was impeccably clean when we arrived and well stocked with anything we could have needed. Communication with Larry and Andrea was quick and easy throughout the booking process, and Larry even checked in via email after our first week to make sure we had everything we needed. The neighborhood is fantastic. The house is so close to the beach, and equidistant in the opposite direction is Mission Boulevard, which is full of great restaurants within walking distance on days when you don't feel like driving. Every day at Salem Surf Sanctuary was an absolute treat. We will definitely stay here again when we come to San Diego in the future!

Just what we were looking for

Wonderful stay! The property was exactly as advertised. Larry and Andrea made it super easy from reservation through checkout. We elected to pack light we did not have a car. We took Rideshare from the airport and then downloaded the Pronto bus pass. The number eight line will take you anywhere you want to go from Ocean Beach to Pacific Beach and everything in between. Easy walking distance to everything you need or desire. Staying just off the boardwalk was way better than Oceanfront. This Bungalow allows you to feel your part of the community while still being able to get your toes in the sand in less than a minute. We only have a couple 'got to go back' places, this will be our third, we will visit again.

I've lived to enjoy life in San Diego and around the world. I love action sports and have surfed, skated and snowboarded most of my life. I've built my home around the San Diego lifestyle and love sharing it with guests. I also have a wonderful daughter that was born in 2013.

Why they chose this property

The location of the home is perfect and the decor inside is better than pictures show and i'm sure you will love it as our hundreds of reviews show. This is a rare PRIVATE stand-alone property with absolute privacy just 50 steps from the boardwalk / beach. Many prefer the privacy off the boardwalk with all its hustle and bustle. Its extremely central location with coffee shops, liquor stores, rental places, surf shops, boutiques and multiple restaurants within 3 blocks just can't be beat. There just aren't many homes you can see the beach and the waves crashing from the privacy of your own deck while inside a hot tub. It simply is a diamond in the rough.

What makes this property unique

Its not on the crazy boardwalk but you can get there in your sleep and enjoy the crowd of the boardwalk ( people watching at its finest ) and the sunsets with ease. The privacy and size of this extra large studio (with an actual separate private lounge / work out room ) cannot be beat. Add to it the hot tub and its just a rare find.
