About this property
The Atwood Lodge | Secluded Cabin in Curran MI
Unplug and unwind at this charming cabin nestled in 80 acres of peaceful woodland Northeast of Curran, Michigan. Perfect solitude for nature lovers, this rustic retreat offers a serene escape from modern distractions—there is Wi-Fi internet, but in keeping with the intended quietude, there is no big screen TV. You can enjoy the warmth of a wood-burning fireplace, the ambiance of a fire pit under the stars, walking the trails through the forest, or lounging outside on the front deck.
This is a small cozy cabin equipped with three bedrooms and one bathroom. There is plenty of parking. Enjoy an open living room and dining area, and a full kitchen. Outside the front door is a very spacious deck where you can kick back and relax, sunning during the day and stargazing at night. More than 30 bird species have been heard in the Spring. Deer are common and Barred Owls and Coyotes are frequently heard at night.
Your escape begins as you drive north of Curran and turn east onto the Hubbard Lake Trail. Almost 4 miles east on this dirt road, you will arrive at a gate on the east side of the road where you will find a sign that reads “Atwood Lodge.” Unlock the gate and move 1/3 of a mile down a private, tree-lined drive that will lead you deeper into the tranquil forest. The further you go, the more the sounds of the outside world fade away, replaced by the peaceful hum of nature. As the cabin comes into view, nestled among towering pines, you’ll instantly feel the privacy and serenity of this remote location. The secluded drive ensures a true escape, where you can leave behind the rush of daily life and fully immerse yourself in the beauty and quiet of the wilderness.

Tucked away in the heart of Michigan’s lush forests, this cabin offers total seclusion amidst 80 acres of untouched wilderness. Neighbors have large tracts of land; hunting camps are common in Alcona County. Surrounded by towering pines and old-growth hardwoods, you’ll feel completely enveloped by nature, with only the sounds of rustling leaves and the chirps and calls of the birds to keep you company. The air is crisp and fresh, perfect for a morning stroll along your private walking trails, where in the spring you might spot one of the migrating birds that pass through. The absence of city lights allows for stunning night skies, making it the ideal spot for stargazing around the firepit. The gentle breezes through the trees are soothing. Watch for deer just before dawn and as the sun sets at the end of your day. In the late evening it is likely that you will hear Barred Owls and Coyotes. Whether you’re sipping coffee by the fireplace, wandering through your peaceful wooded oasis, or sitting on the deck, this cabin provides the uncommon escape from the stresses of everyday life, reconnecting you to the serenity that is found in nature.
It is recommended to drive here. An Uber or Lyft may get lost and will probably be pretty expensive to use.
Newly remodeled in 2024, Atwood Lodge has been in the family for four generations. An old cabin still sits on the property, built around 1930, however, it is currently unusable. Atwood Lodge was originally built in 1969 and has ever since been a gathering place for our family and friends.
