Relax & Unwind in Mountain View Farmhouse, minutes from Hanging Rock State Park

**Newly renovated in 2022-2023**

Welcome to Starlight Ridge Farm!

Looking for a relaxing getaway? This is the place. This charming1902 farmhouse was the Vaden family homeplace for 4 generations. It has been lovingly restored and updated with a brand-new kitchen, bathrooms, and modern conveniences while maintaining its historic charm. The house is 7 minutes from the main entrance to Hanging Rock State Park, 6 minutes from Moore's Springs Manor, and affords a stunning mountain view off the front porch.

Sip coffee from the porch rockers and watch the sunrise over the mountain. Take advantage of our 58 private acres, perfect for long walks and exploring. Spend the day exploring the creeks on the property, tubing the Dan River, or visiting the local state parks. In the evening, enjoy a good book, game, or puzzle by the gas log fireplace, or watch the deer and other wildlife in the fields around the house. End your days by the fire pit, with incredible star gazing and a view of the Milky Way.

There is so much to do minutes from our doorstep - great hiking with panoramic views, waterfalls, mountain bike trails, ziplining, local farm stands, and wineries - something for everyone.

The updated 2000 sq. ft. farmhouse has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, and easily accommodates 6-7 people. Master bedroom upstairs with queen bed and private bath; 2 other upstairs bedrooms with 1 queen, 1 full and 1 twin. Fully equipped, modern kitchen. Linens, towels, and paper products furnished. Streaming TV in living room and one bedroom. Dedicated office workspace upstairs. Excellent WiFi. Good cell service.

Private and secluded, this a great place to get away from it all.

Winery/ brewery/ hiking trip
This farmhouse is so charming with ship lap walls and pine hardwood floors and all the creaks of a 124 year old house. Beautifully decorated and landscaped. The kitchen is well stocked and the views are tranquil. The host quickly responded to all communications. Close to hiking trails, wineries, breweries and My Airy. You will not be disappointed!!

Short Getaway for Hiking and Nascar Martinsville Race
This is a hard one to review. We loved the location and property! The mountain views were beautiful and relaxing. The inside of the house was fairly clean. Some spring cleaning of the mini-blinds, windows and porch siding should be done this year. Our major concern with this property is the stairs. Personally, I think they are an accident about to happen. We had a 1939 lake cottage for 20 years and know all about remodel projects & rustic homes. The stairs have no banister for the upper five steps. They are old, slippery and un-level with a quarter inch ledge at the top (you could easily trip on it and fall head first down the stairs with no banister to grab). The steps definitely need some kind of grip runner. Our dog actually fell and my husband caught him. The no-banister is definitely not up to code in our local building dept. There is an inch step in the hall leading to the BRs that needs to be made into a ramp. In the middle of the night, the little step bump is dangerous. Additionally, we had only a trickle of hot water in the master bath. We also tried to contact the host when we arrived, but they were out of the country so didn't get our message until the next day. They should have left a contact for us. Lastly, we arrived around 6:00 pm to discover no bath soaps. (With around 10 previous Vrbo rentals, we have never encountered this - so we had to make a 60 minute round trip on winding, dark roads for $1.99 soap bars.) Overall, we had a good stay.

Perfection!
The property was beautiful and the house was immaculate. The beds and furniture were very comfortable. The kitchen had everything you might need. The owners were very quick to communicate with before and during the stay. I highly recommend this place and will definitely go back.

Magical Homeplace
We loved everything about this property. Bryan and Francie have thought of everything. We love all the natural elements of the home that were kept in the restoration. It was fun to imagine what life would have been like living in that home in the 1900s as we sat on the front porch in the evenings. I'm a huge history buff and old cemeteries are interesting to me, so I enjoyed exploring the family plot on the hill. Our dogs had a fabulous time. They spent hours playing fetch. My husband went hiking through the property with one of our dogs while the other and I attended a nearby dog competition. The home was a great satellite spot to the competition location. The home is perfectly located for all your outdoor interests. We definitely want to come back and explore more of Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain. We ate out only one night, opting instead to get food from John Brown's and cook ourselves. The kitchen has everything you need. The night we ate out, we ate at Foothills Grill and Tap. Their beers are very well priced! Can't wait to come back! We cannot thank the hosts enough for a fabulous stay! (Next time we'd really love the original owner family member to come down and tell us stories! We hoped all weekend that we would run into her. haha)

About the host

We purchased the farm in 2021 from the 4th generation property owner, whose great-grandfather built the house around 1902. The old Vaden family cemetery is still located on the property. Our family enjoys hiking at Hanging Rock State Park, tubing the Dan, and exploring Stokes County. We love all that the area has to offer and are excited to share this special property with you.

Why they chose this property

We love the stunning mountain views on our private 58-acre outdoor playground. We bet you will too!

What makes this property unique

There's not a better view in Stokes County, and we are as close as it gets to Hanging Rock State Park. Pet Friendly.
