fantastic location, remote hill top rustic farmhouse with fabulous infinity pool
we stayed with our adult family. outside the place was superb with bbq and bread oven (which we made good use of), lots of places to sit outside in the sun or shade. the pool area above the house was the most amazing space with views to die for and sunsets to watch every evening. the inside spaces were very rustic - absolutely fine if you are happy with that, but not to everyone’s taste. the beds were a little uncomfortable but the bathrooms and showers worked well.
Thank you for your review. We are glad you had a good time and enjoyed the outdoor areas in particular.
Best wishes, Lorraine at tuscan-retreats
We had a magical stay at Mengarino. The property is beautifully situated above Barga with magnicent views of the Apuane Alps
The house is wonderfully rustic and the converted barn useful for additional friends or family
The highlights are the outside areas....the pool is stunning and we had many memorable evenings dining on the terrace
I’d can’t recommend this place enough
Thank you for your review.
Fantastic to hear this beautiful place described as heavenly...
We hope to hear from you another time.

Where to start... We stayed here for our Honeymoon, to enjoy some peace and quiet. This is exactly what we got, the most picturesque, calm and peaceful tuscan retreat.
It is blessed with stunning views and beautiful landscape. The villa itself was perfect, with all the amenities you need.
With use of the other house for kitchen utilities and the pergola, which was ideal for evening meals as you sit and watch Barga light up at night time.
Spending everyday relaxing by the gorgeous infinity pool, perfect for cooling down after laying on the sun beds in the glorious weather.
The land is painted in wonderful colours with all the beautiful plants and flowers dotted around the homes.
This was honestly the nicest holiday and made our honeymoon extra special. Absolutely perfect. Thank you.
We stayed at Mengarino for three weeks and completely agree with all the positives in preceding reviews. The stone farmhouses, courtyard and ovens are historically beautiful but also currently romantic and comfortable. The infinity pool area at the top of the property is transcendent. The views of the Serrchio Valley and Apuane Alps are breathtaking but there is also a goat herd with tinkling bells which moves around the valley and mountains which added to the transcendence. Our pizza night with Marco and Simonetta was also a highlight for us. They came with their two lovely daughters and Marco's 82 year old beautiful mother. It stormed that night which only added to the conviviality of the evening.
We absolutely loved the town of Barga. There are at least five excellent restaurants. Find your favorite ( ours was Caffe Capretz) and eat there often. We had pasta every day of our three weeks in Italy, but from walking in Barga, hiking outside of Barga, and swimming in Mengarino's pool every afternoon, we lost weight.
We have vacationed all over the world. This is one of the most special places we've ever stayed. It receives our highest recommendation.
Thank you for your comprehensive review - Simonetta will be so happy to hear that even though you are so well travelled this is one of your most special holidays. We are so glad you had a good time and loved this unique and magical place. Great to hear also that you enjoyed Barga - you are right, there are so many excellent restaurants there!
Best wishes Lorraine
A wonderful fortnight in beauty and tranquility
The house was well-maintained and clean and the gardens and pool were immaculate. The owner, Simonetta, was attentive and very friendly. She ensured that we understood the local area and we had her number if anything extra was needed(which it wasn't). Simonetta and her husband Marco even hosted a pizza evening using the pizza oven on site. It was a unique experience and in many ways the favourite part of our stay.
The house itself is historic and positioned on the side of the rugged hills surrounding Barga and it provided amazing views of the valley and the hills opposite. This gave a fantastic feeling of peace and tranquillity.
The swimming pool garden was the signature of the property as it is elevated above/behind the house and was a lovely area to relax and enjoy the lovely pool and the weather, which was mainly hot and sunny with just a couple of days of cloud. Needless to say our young children remained around the pool for days on end and this was no hardship for us!
Barga itself is a very pleasant town and was a ten-minute drive down the hills. There were a number of really good small towns within easy reach and Lucca was magnificent, although an hour away.
A number of our friends are already wanting to book this house on the strength of our photos alone!
Thank you for your review.
We are glad you loved this place, the grounds, pool and those amazing views!
Good to hear you got lots of exploring done too.
We have also been up for pizza at the house when Simonetta and Marco were staying there and it was a memorable evening with pizzas to die for!
We hope you holiday with us again.

Excellent property in an unspoilt area
One could not tire of the view from the edge of the infinity pool across the valley to a stunning mountain range! The property is quite remote but all the better for it. The accommodation is quite flexible with the second house being very usefu for our party of six. The owners are very friendly and helpful, not to say skilled pizza makers. Barga, about 8km away, has a lovely old town and all the facilities needed for an excellent stay.
Thank you for your review. It is good to hear you enjoyed this beautiful panorama and that you found the property equipped with all you needed. Glad to hear you liked bustling little Barga too!
