About this property
Cabin, Queen Bed, 2 Bunks, Private Bath
Located on Long Pond within 100,000 acres of conserved land, Gorman Chairback Lodge is operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club, the country’s oldest recreation and conservation organization. Staying at Gorman Chairback will provide opportunities to hike, bike, ski, fish and paddle out your front door. Your stay supports the AMC’s ongoing conservation efforts.
This cabin has a living room, two bedrooms, a bathroom and an unscreened roofed porch. The living room contains a table and benches, a futon, a woodstove and is lit by propane lamps. The primary bedroom holds a queen bed, electric lights and an electrical outlet. The bathroom holds a stall shower, toilet, sink and electric lights and outlet. The second bedroom holds a bunkbed with propane lamps but no electricity. Linens and pillows are provided as are wool blankets and bath towels. Cell service is poor and there is no internet available on campus. Despite propane and electric lights, a headlamp or flashlight is strongly recommended.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included with rental of this cabin. All meals are served in the main lodge which also has a living room which includes a library and small retail store. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet style while lunch is a bag lunch provided immediately after breakfast to take on your adventure for the day. We can accommodate major dietary restrictions.
A shared sauna is available upon request at the main lodge.
The drive to Gorman Chairback takes you on gated logging roads which can be difficult to pass after major rain events in early June and late October. The roads are accessed through a gate operated by a third party which closes at 9:00pm. Arrivals after that time are not permitted. RVs, ATV and motorcycles are not permitted past the gate.
Free use of our fleet of canoes and kayaks is included in your stay and can be launched off our boat slip on Long Pond. A common sandy swim area is a short walk from your cabin and a there is a swim float a short distance from shore from which you can swim and jump into the lake. If you intend to swim or boat, please bring your own beach towel.
There is a single campfire ring in camp with benches, and chairs. Firewood is provided and staff will light the fire upon request.
Our staff is knowledgeable about local recreation opportunities and can point you in the right direction for gravel biking adventures, hiking trips, fishing spots, ski tours and great locations to spot local flora and fauna on land and on the water. Natural history presentations are often offered on site as well.
There is a meeting space available to rent if you have a larger group that would like to have a space set aside.
