We enjoyed a 10 day stay at the Red Ohana 2 bedroom cottage in Waimea. The location was so convenient to restaurants, grocery stores , farmers markets, and lovely Hapuna Beach. We appreciated the provided beach supplies Nearby farmers markets were fun. The central location made it easy for day trips to north island towns as well as west beaches and sights near Hilo.
We had another wonderful stay at the Red Ohana. The town of Waimea never disappoints. The people are amazing, the food was so good and we loved the views. Laura is one of the most attentive hosts and is very easy to contact. Don’t hesitate to book this home away from home.
Perfect communication, wellappointed with whatever is needed. It would be tough for my parents with a very tight shower and no climate control, but was no issue for our younger family. We had a great stay.
The Red Ohana is a cute little cottage just outside of Waimea. It is a great location from which to explore the Hilo side of Hawaii, and Waimea is a lovely little town to explore. (don’t miss the Wednesday and Saturday Kamuela Farmers Market) Laura was an excellent host, great communication and very welcoming - she kept us informed of everything we needed to know. On our last day, due to bad weather, we asked at the last minute if we could extend our stay by a day to accommodate our late flight off the island, and Laura was flexible enough to accommodate our request and allow us the extra day, which we very much appreciated. Mahalo, Laura - we hope to be back to visit again sometime.
Laura was very easy to deal with and very accomodating. The property is absolutely beautiful and made our little vacation that much more special. I hope to make it out again.
Great location just minutes from Waimea and 10 minute drive to coast and beaches. Beautiful green hills of Kohala mountain and great Waimea restaurants, farmers markets. Laura is great host, very responsive and easy to work with. Great comfy bed and pillows, with Hawaiian touches throughout the interior.
We enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful and is located in a quiet neighborhood. The location was perfect to travel the entire island. The beds were amazing and the property was perfect for quality family time. We definitely recommend the Red Ohana and hope to return soon.
We had a quiet, relaxing stay at the 2 BR Red Ohana. I particularly appreciated Laura reaching out to us and offering both an early check-in and late check-out since there were no guests departing or arriving immediately before/after our stay. That's hospitality at its finest.
Our family had a fantastic stay at the Red Ohana! The location was very convenient for the north end and the house and lanai were lovely. The cottage had every amenity needed and the cleaning service was both friendly and impeccable. We hope to return!!!!
Our group booked both houses on this property. They were both clean with lots of amenities. It's a good loctaion to get to some great beaches and hikes, but it's a big island and you'll be doing lots of driving no matter where you stay.
The Red Ohana represents true aloha. Laura was so kind and attentive. The home was clean and a comfortable space to return to after exploring Waimea, Honokaa, Hawi, and Spencer Beach (just 15 minutes away!). We will definitely be back. Mahalo!

Red 'Ohana distinguishes itself from other vacation rentals first and foremost because of the casual elegance that you just won't find elsewhere except at exorbitantly priced resorts (and without our amenities). Our property is both spacious and private, and the ohanas were the original Parker Ranch caretakers' quarters. Once you explore the island, you will appreciate the mild, temperate climate. The property atmosphere is relaxed and your peace will not be impacted by noisy roosters, coqui frogs, pets, or other animals. Your access to Waimea town is a 5 minute drive and access to beautiful beaches is an easy, scenic 8 minute drive. It would be difficult to find a property with all of features and amenities for the same price elsewhere on the island. Sometimes local residents stay with us for their weekend getaway. Many parents stay with us when visiting their children who attend the prestigious Hawaii Preparatory Academy.
