Welcome to The Big Dipper - your own secret base camp tucked into 4 private wooded acres at the top of Wallace Mountain in Ellijay, GA. Think summer camp, but the version where you're in charge and there's wine. Up here, the air is genuinely cooler - the thick forest canopy keeps you in deep shade all day, a steady mountain breeze moves through the trees, and the temperature just feels different than the city you left behind. If you've been melting all summer and need a real escape, this is it. Step outside and the whole mountain is yours. Wander the trail down to Tickanetley Creek - a spring-fed mountain stream that runs cool and clear all summer, perfect for wading, splashing, or just sitting on the rocks letting the sound of moving water do its thing. Kick back in the hammock, roast something over the campfire ring, and end the night under dark skies packed with more stars than you've seen in years. The wraparound covered porch with its outdoor fireplace and string lights is your summer headquarters - equal parts slow morning coffee spot and late-night hangout where nobody checks their phone and everyone forgets they had plans to go to bed. When you're ready to venture out, downtown Ellijay and Blue Ridge are an easy drive - wineries, cideries, tubing, waterfalls, and all the small-town summer charm you can handle. With our extensive curated guidebook and local hiking guide, we will be sure you get to experience the area to it's full potential!
🏕️ Base Camp Life - 4 private acres backing directly to the Chattahoochee National Forest - Trail down to Tickanetley Creek -- perfect for wading, splashing, and just listening to the water move - Dark sky property -- fireflies at dusk, stars all night - Campfire ring with Adirondack chairs and hammock made for doing absolutely nothing
🔥 Porch & Fire Nights - Wraparound covered deck with outdoor fireplace and string lights - Massive stone fireplace inside -- the cabin's beating heart - Built from reclaimed materials with all the original camp character kept intact - The kind of porch where the best conversations happen and nobody checks their phone

We enjoyed our little getaway here. It was cozy, quiet, and just what we needed to disconnect for a few days. The host was kind and provided helpful information before and during our trip.

Great vacation
We had an amazing relaxing time. This was the perfect place to get away in these cute cabins.very comfortable and quiet.
Excellent location close to attractions in a private setting with lovely nature views too! We loved the quaint cabin that was full of charm and character! Highly recommended for small families/small groups looking to get away for a few days! The trail & creek on the property were an added bonus for us!
What a great camp! The hostess was very communicative throughout our stay, the cabin was so adorable, clean, and cozy. We were able to bring our 2 dogs with us which was an added bonus. It is very private and it felt like we were in a treehouse. Went on a hike in the national forest which borders the property and found a beautiful waterfall. Great time. So relaxing!

Thank you Michelle for the wonderful review and being such great guests! It was a pleasure hosting you for this trip and we would love to have you back again soon!
Great little cabin for a couple! It was big enough to not feel cramped but cozy enough to get away and relax. We didn’t spend enough time here with all the activities in the area available - Amicalola Falls, Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, White Water Rafting near Bryson City, SC. Next time we will plan a day of no activities to enjoy more of what the cabin had to offer.

Quiet getaway
We had a relaxing time at the campaway! It was a great cozy spot for us to enjoy the fall weather and activities nearby! The camp theme was really cute and the cabin’s rustic yet cozy vibe added to our enjoyment.
We had a great stay at Camp Away. Getting in touch with the property manager was a breeze. The cabin was neat and clean and perfect for my husband and I to get away and spend time together. I only have positive things to say. I will add that the cabin is 30 minutes away from anything to do or eat. We knew this when booking. The road there is a little rough but expect that in the mountains. I would recommend getting there before night fall. The property is great for a romantic trip or even a family trip.

Thank you for the lovely review Holly! We are so glad you and your husband enjoyed your trip. The cabin is a true mountain getaway where you can escape into the mountains and serenity of nature. We do love the drive to and from the cabin into town and to the many things to do in the area as we find the drive to be very scenic. We hope you can come and stay with us again in the future!
Shinrin-yoku is a form of meditative hiking, and evidence of its benefits is so compelling that writing a prescription for the practice has become standard in Japan. If you want to write an Rx for yourself, make it for The Camp Away! The cabins’ setting is so perfect for R&R that you will not want to go anywhere else. Stock up on groceries, swing by R&A Orchard, then head on over! It’s a little off the beaten path but driving instructions are easy to follow. A bonus of being away from crowded towns is the breathtaking number of visible stars in the sky. And by day, you can take the easy walk down to the creek (a walking stick or trekking pole is recommended) and lose yourself in the forest. You have a porch and a balcony from which to enjoy the view, soak in the sun or feel the breeze. The cabin itself is welcoming and cozy, with charming personality and attention to detail. Despite being away from it all, the wi-fi and TV streaming worked just fine. We cooked all our meals in the kitchen and even enjoyed clean up - the tree view from the kitchen window was positively delightful. This is a perfect getaway and little adventure for couples or families and we will definitely be back

This is an unexpected magical gem of a cabin. The creek, the firepit area, the porch fireplace, the cute touches inside - what a lovely place! It's a no-frills kind of place, but it has everything you need to feel cozy and at home in the woods.
