About the host
Hosted by Blair Kauffman
We’re Barbara and Blair, a retired librarian/artist married couple who moved from mid-coast Maine to North Carolina in 2019. After first settling in the Research Triangle outside of Chapel Hill we found New Bern and fell for its historic charm and nautical vibe. We finally relocated here in 2024 and bought a second home to share with friends, family and guests: this is our short-term rental.
Why they chose this property
The Riverside neighborhood is one of our favorite parts of New Bern. As one of its four historic districts, it’s home to dozens of beautiful older residences, and it’s just far enough from downtown to offer a quiet, more local feel. The street where our short term rental is located is particularly lovely, as it’s not a through street and therefore has very little traffic and it’s large trees and generous sidewalks make it especially suitable for pedestrians.
What makes this property unique
Our rental is a fully renovated 1915 home, listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It has a large front porch with rocking chairs and a ceiling fan, making it a perfect place to sit in the evening and watch pedestrians stroll by. A large deck in the rear of the house overlooks a generous, fenced back yard and neighboring flower gardens. The high ceilings throughout the house make it feel spacious, and the convenience of a large first floor master bedroom, fully renovated bathroom and updated kitchen and laundry help make this rental exceptionally comfortable. An additional bedroom, bath and study on the second level add a degree of privacy when more than a single couple are making use of this property.
