Beautiful Restored Colonial In Merida Centro – Santa Ana/Paseo Montejo

September Deals: New lower rates and special discounts. Book now!

Welcome to Casa Noel, tucked in the heart of historic Merida Centro. This beautiful colonial home is perfectly located less than two blocks from the many attractions of the Paseo Montejo and the Plaza Grande is an easy ten minute walk away. Three blocks from the house, enjoy the daily market at Santa Ana park. Every day, merchants serve up favorite local foods, souvenirs and services. Santa Ana is also home to numerous art galleries, featuring art in many forms from around the world with a focus on Mexican and Latin American artists.

Hiding behind the simple colonial facade, Casa Noel will quickly become your refuge from the busy city life. The tall entry doors reveal a view through the house to the central courtyard and from there to the rear garden. Traditional high ceilings and pasta tile floors combine with modern touches in a perfect blend of comfort and old Mexico.

The comfortable living room includes a flat screen HD television with cable and dvd player. The cable service includes English language news, sports and movie channels, along with extensive Spanish language selections. Casa Noel is also equipped with high speed wireless internet access.

The dining room with a beautiful antique table and chairs and seating for eight is adjacent to the central courtyard, opening through the original wood archway to this bright and airy space. In the center of the house, this covered and screened center courtyard brings light and breezes to the living spaces. Sit here in the morning at the café table with your coffee and enjoy breakfast to the sounds of birds in the nearby trees.

The all new, much larger and modern kitchen opens off the central courtyard as well. Broad doors and windows bring in cooling breezes and light filtered through the courtyard plantings.

A comfortable sitting room is adjacent to the master bedroom and opens onto a covered outdoor terrace leading to the gardens featuring a pool set amidst beautiful tropical plantings. A refreshing outdoor shower is located near the pool. Enjoy the sun in the garden surrounding the pool, or rest in the shade of the terrace.

The home includes three stunning bedrooms with 17 foot ceilings featuring the original pasta tile floors. New mattresses, ceiling fans and air conditioning in each bedroom assure your comfort. The two large front bedrooms have queen size beds with side tables and storage. The all new master bedroom with king size bed features an en-suite bathroom with a delightful rainfall shower and dual sinks. The bedroom opens onto the quiet rear courtyard through high doors with a view of the pool and gardens, and offers complete privacy from the rest of the house.

Within a block of Casa Noel you will find multiple options for dining out, from a traditional cocina economica, two very special Mexican restaurants and a French cafe which also sells excellent cheeses and wine. Just two blocks away on Paseo Montejo you will find many restaurant and shopping options, along with several interesting museums. The daily Santa Ana market has a broad selection of meats, fresh fruits and vegetables. The modern Walmart is about a five minute walk or short Uber away.

Our local property manager speaks excellent English. She and her staff can arrange nearly any additional service you may need, including transportation, child care, travel information, shopping, massage or a cook. You may want the unique experience of a private cooking lesson for your party focused on local Yucatecan cuisine.

We invite your family to make our home your home in the beautiful colonial heart of Merida and the Yucatan peninsula.

Amazing location

Wonderfully located near all the historical plazas!Loved how spacious the home was. Almost felt like we had our own Hacienda!I would just make one small suggestion and I mean no offense to the owners would be to update the bed linen and pillows. Other than that it was amazin!

Interesting and Charming Restored Colonial House

This house was built to impress, and it was designed before electricity and air conditioning. There is natural light all over the house; I counted some 26 skylights. It is also naturally cool due to the extensive ventilation. The ceilings are very high (like fifteen or sixteen feet), and some of the walls do not go all the way to the ceiling to allow for air flow. The doors are very tall and have transom windows above them. The door casings are the original wood, and the walls are about a foot thick. If there is the slightest breeze outside, then it is breezy inside (with the help of some ceiling fans). The neighborhood is mostly quiet, and the location is very convenient, with lots of restaurants within walking distance. There is a washer and dryer available, and the pool is very nice. The hosts are attentive, friendly, and speak English. This house provides a beautiful, true, and authentic taste of historic Mexican architecture, but there are also the modern conveniences of a kitchen and air conditioning in the bedrooms. I really enjoyed my stay.

Great central location

We loved our stay at Casa Noel! It had plenty of space for our family of five to spread out and the pool and terrace was perfect for cooling off. The location is great with easy walking distance to both Plaza Grande (15 minutes) and Paseo Montejo (5-15 minutes, depending on which part) - and so many beautiful sights along the way! Rex was very accommodating to us when we needed a last minute place for an extra night on our trip and a late check in. Would recommend Casa Noel as a great place to explore Merida and the surrounding area from!

Beautiful oasis near everything

We spent 19 days here, and loved retreating from the heat to our cool, beautiful place. It has 5 "public" rooms, linked one after another, ending with a patio that gives out to the pool. Love the inside atrium with tropical plans. Yes, the water trickles in the bathroom, the shower takes a while to heat up, and put all your food in the refrigerator to avoid the ants. Neighbors have open courtyards too so sometimes barking and noise creeps in. That's life here. So much is available within a 5-15 minute walk. Again, coming home to this lovely, cool oasis was wonderful.

Pleasant stay close to central Merida

We enjoyed our stay in this restored older home, about a kilometer from the central plaza of Merida. The place was well-kept and clean. We received wonderful assistance from the property manager. Jesus answered several questions for us, and helped us work through some internet issues. The property itself was well-equipped with TV, internet, cable TV with access to Netflix. The kitchen is also well-equipped, and very easy to make meals either simple or more complex (but we ate out for lunch and dinner routinely). Nothing against the property itself, but a couple things to understand about older properties. The showers had very low flow (practically a sprinkling), and it takes more than five minutes to get hot water. You can't put any paper products in the toilet - so you use a lined waste basket. Regardless, you are very close to Paseo de Montejo (major boulevard), and within 15 min walking distance of a very large Walmart, plus multiple smaller markets, and plenty of restaurants. Very safe neighborhood. We drove a rental car while we were in the Yucatan penisula. A couple of cautionary notes: When buying gasoline, I recommend that you tell the attendant how many liters you want, because then you can monitor that on the gas dispenser. Hand them money after they finish, not beforehand. I had two bad episodes with dishonest gas attendants. Also, watch yourself with Mexican police. We were shook down by police for a payment because my daughter temporarily had taken off her seat belt in the backseat. Cost us $140, and if we had had the cash, they would have taken more.

Best Vacation Stay

To start. We travel A LOT and hands down, agreed by my wife and son as well that this was the best vacation we had as a family. From when the door was opened by Jesus to greet us we were a little taken back on how large the inside was. From the front it seemed narrow but upon entering we were very pleasantly surprised. -Walking into the home the house had a great flow and more than enough space. There is much natural light during the day so lights are not really needed. For having buildings on either side the natural lighting from the front, rear doors and the roof were great. Having the rear doors open to the pool you have direct view from the main bedroom and the dining room. We opened them every morning to take it all in. Very relaxing. The rear patio beyond the doors is screened in so you can relax out there with morning coffee or a evening drink. The showers have quick hot water and that is HUGE for our family. Only thing is that there is limestone in the water system but this home and the area has better filtered water but should use the 5 gallon water that is supplied. You will have more than enough water unless it’s a big group. Bring a water container for each person so you can keep down the plastic usage. For showering you might want to bring an after shower conditioner for hair as the water will dry your skin/hair a little bit. Maybe some skin lotion if you have dry skin. All bedding and towels are supplied so don’t pack these items. If traveling with 6 people just let the owner/staff know and they will make sure they will have it ready. ALL are very responsive to your needs. Just plan ahead. The kitchen- Well supplied with everything needed. *This is VERY important! You need to keep up with dishes and keeping the eating area clean. If not, you WILL have ants. These ants have lived here for 150 years. If you leave out a bag of chips, you will have an ARMY. Don’t leave dishes in the sink at all. Put anything you want out in a sealed container or place in the fridge. The plant atrium area is where they come from. Respect the ants. This is not a negative comment. It’s just reality. Don’t eat in you bedrooms, living room couches, bathroom, or you will literally have ants in your pants. You have an awesome DR table, cafe 3 seat table in atrium, back porch area, kitchen seating to eat. I hope you read this. Day 1 you’ll know how clean u need 2 be. The location is perfect! The best. Everything in walking distance. Easy parking. Enjoy!

Lovely, clean, beautiful, cozy

The home was stunning, nothing and I mean nothing was wrong with it, the rooms are all spacious with their own AC units which cool very well. The kitchen is well stocked, the restrooms are perfect, the water pressure was good. The pool is big enough and deep enough for the four members of my family to be comfortable and have an amazing time. This is the first time in my travels that nothing and I mean absolutely nothing was wrong. Jesus was there for anything we needed, he was very responsive and made us feel very comfortable during our stay.

Great property close to everything

This was a very easy process and great communication from the property manager. At the beginning, there was a little miscommunication, but not a problem at all. The house is in a very central location in about a 15 to 20 minute walk from pretty much everything. Really big rooms And the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need if you want to cook. They have plenty of bottled water in the 10 gallon jars.Didn’t realize until leaving that there was a different Wi-Fi to cover the back of the house where the service is a little spotty, but it’s good to know for next time. The price was very reasonable and we highly recommend this property if you’re visiting the town

Enjoyed our stay very much and particularly appreciated the location. Also, appreciated finding a kitchen that was properly stocked with cooking tools and appliances - even a sharp knife. Note: the pool is small but nice for cooling down and the court may be a little shady for serious sun lovers.

Great place!

My teenage son, who is too cool to be impressed by anything that his parents pick out, kept saying, "THIS is where we're staying?!" Needless to say, he was impressed. And so were we. It's an amazing place. Very comfortable, very clean. The property management team was very pleasant and great to deal with. In short, we loved it!

Why they chose this property

Merida is truly authentic Mexico. The city itself and the surrounding countryside take us back to a more tranquil time when friends and family are more important than.... well, anything. The local people are warm, friendly and welcoming. We wander the streets at all hours in complete safety. And our time here leaves us relaxed and ready to face our busy lives again.

What makes this property unique

The location of Casa Noel is nearly perfect. On a quiet, bus free street, yet very close to so much of the city life that attracted us to Merida. The Paseo Montejo is just two blocks away with numerous restaurants and shops. Our local Santa Ana market offers a true Mexican shopping experience along with many of the services we have needed as homeowners and is just three blocks away. And we are within an easy 15 minute walk of the Plaza Grande yet discreetly removed from the noise and bustle of that area.

And when you choose to remain home and relax, the quiet comfort of our home, gardens and outdoor living spaces will allow you to rest, refresh and recharge.
