About this property
Handicapped-Friendly Cabin in Woods + Family Fun + Hiking + PetFriendly + Sauna
Escape to The Bear’s Lair, where the trees outnumber the Wi-Fi signals (but don’t worry, we have that too). This cozy, multi-level cabin retreat in the woods of Berkeley Springs, WV, is perfect for families, friends, and adventure seekers of all abilities. Unwind in the outdoor sauna, battle it out in the game room, or soak in the wood-fired hot tub. With hiking, skiing, and charming downtown shops nearby, it’s the perfect place to unplug—or not—and make unforgettable memories.
Please note: there are 9 steps from the driveway to the front entry door. Once inside, the main level offers a comfortable, thoughtful layout ideal for guests of all ages and abilities. Two queen bedrooms are located on this level, along with a full bathroom that is ensuite to one of the bedrooms. The bathroom includes a soaking tub, walk-in shower, and a higher-level toilet. Lever-style faucet handles throughout the home add ease of use, and room-darkening blackout shades in all sleeping areas ensure restful sleep.
The fully stocked kitchen is ready for anything—from pancake breakfasts to après-ski cocktails. Relax in the cozy living room with a woodstove, oversized sectional, and flat-screen TV—perfect for movie nights or afternoon naps.
Upstairs, you’ll find a king-size ensuite bedroom with a reading nook and a shared full bathroom with dual access. The loft area includes a futon (double bed), a play couch, and a desk—great for crafts, puzzles, or remote work.
Downstairs is designed for fun: arcade games, shuffleboard, foosball, board games, a bonus TV lounge with a futon, and a twin bedroom (can be converted to a king upon request). Please note there is no bathroom on the lower level.
Accessible parking is available near the main entry. If you or someone in your group has specific accessibility needs or concerns, please reach out—we're happy to help make your stay as safe and comfortable as possible.
Traveling with little ones? We provide a portable crib, high chair, baby bathtub, booster seat, baby gates, step stool, and potty seat—because a happy kid means a happy vacation.
Outside, soak in the wood-fired hot tub (firewood and easy instructions provided), enjoy the outdoor sauna, and gather around the fire pit. Challenge your crew to axe throwing, cornhole, or a giant Tetris Tumble. Dine outdoors at the picnic table, fire up the grill, or relax in the screened porch and watch the deer wander by.
As our guest, you’ll also have access to Coolfont Mountainside Association’s seasonal pool, hot tub, tennis and basketball courts, and nearby hiking trails. Four pool-hot tub passes are included with your stay. Additional single-day passes are available for $15 each and must be pre-arranged.
Want more to explore? Visit nearby Cacapon State Park for nature trails, a sandy beach, and a nature center—or pop into downtown Berkeley Springs for quirky boutiques, local coffee shops, and family-friendly charm.
Whether you're here to hike, ski, sauna, or simply relax, The Bear’s Lair is the perfect place to make lasting memories—for everyone.

About the host
Hosted by Becca Isoldi

We’re a family of four from a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC—me, a middle school teacher, and my husband, a computer programmer. We love traveling off the beaten path and discovering the hidden gems that locals cherish. When we find ourselves in popular tourist cities, we always venture beyond the typical attractions to explore the neighborhoods that fly under the radar. Food, culture, and adventure are at the heart of our travels, and we strike a balance between savoring each moment and seeing as much as we can. We bought our charming cabin as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and we make the most of it whenever we can (which, if you’re familiar with youth sports schedules, you know is a bit of a juggling act!). We also love hosting friends and family, giving them the chance to experience the peaceful beauty of a West Virginia getaway.
Why they chose this property
We love the neighborhood because it’s tucked away like a secret hideaway—without the risk of being stranded in the middle of nowhere. Just 10 minutes in one direction, and we can grab a coffee downtown or take a quick dip in the springs. Head the other way, and we’re equally close to epic hiking trails. And, of course, just a block down the street, there’s a pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts—because, really, why not?
What makes this property unique
The cabin itself is nestled in a forest where every season brings its own majestic transformation. Inside, the beds are fit for Goldilocks—*not* too soft, *not* too hard, but just right for a perfect night’s sleep. And if you’re planning a getaway with friends, the fully stocked kitchen is ideal for cooking up a memorable Friendsgiving feast. When we get bored of the house amenities (though, honestly, who would?), there’s always something fun to do—whether it’s starting the day with a sauna, battling it out in a Street Fighter tournament, or sinking into a plush sectional with a good book. It’s the perfect mix of tranquility and excitement.
