Hidden gem! 8 of us spent 2 nights here on the coldest weekend of the year and the hot tub and beautiful pond and trails were exactly what we needed! Truly a winter wonderland. The host, Terry, was also very responsive leading up to and during our trip and was a delight to speak to. Will absolutely be returning to get to enjoy this place in the summer!

There weren't basic amenities like toilet paper, towels or coffee as a bare minimum. While booking, we weren't notified that these will not be provided. Only after reservation were completed, the host messaged to bring our own amenities. Dishwasher was dirty with stains even after cleaning twice. The stay was pleasant otherwise.

The day they reserved they received a confirmation which also listed the items not furnished in self catering homes. We are not a hotel. When one makes a business transaction it's important to read info documents.
Lovely cabin and location with lots of room. Everything was clean and overall very comfortable. The hot tub is amazing! We were there for Christmas. The only thing I would really recommend is, if you are visiting in winter, bring a pair of house slippers. The floors did feel a little cold to me. No one else seemed to mind, though.
We enjoyed the hot tub and fireplace. View of lake from deck was nice. We had fun walking around the property and thankfully it was a beautiful weekend and we could take the pedal boat out.
Everything eas perfect! So beautiful here definitely will be back. We came here for our 44th anniversary could not ask fir a more perfect place. Host was incredible. So very helpful and friendly
Lovely location overlooking a lake. It was snowing and cold for the entire weekend which made the gas fireplace a real treat. The kitchen was fully stocked which was nice. Having to provide our own kitchen and bathroom towels, TP, paper towels, and garbage bags wasn’t a problem, but it would have been helpful to know that before the day of our check-in. The hot tub looked very inviting but there weren’t stairs or a stool to help get in and out so we couldn’t use it. That really was the only disappointing part of the entire (family) girl’s trip. Guests need to also be ware that there isn’t any WiFi, so you cannot work from here (which also wasn’t known), and that the only way to get upstairs is by using a narrow spiral staircase. We had a wonderful weekend enjoying each other’s company and thank the host for his hospitality.

Don't know why the guest said there wasn't wifi. There is and so you can work from here. The confirmation that she was sent, the day she reserved, and again on her check in day had a list of items not furnished. If she had contacted us we would have told her about the wifi and provided something(?) so they could get in the hot tub.
Property was easy to find, and described accurately in listing. We had 9 adults and we fit comfortably in the house. Used the volleyball court and gazebo area for many hours of fun. Nice relaxing atmosphere! Enjoyed our stay!!
Well designed property with all the amenities. Everyone had plenty of space, and there is a nice porch and back deck for relaxing. The hot tub was well maintained and appreciated. The location was remote enough to be a getaway while being only minutes away from Tomah.
IT WAS A WONDERFUL TIME.USED THE PADDLE BOAT, HOT TUBWE WOULD HAVE LIKED AN UMBRELLA OVER ONE OF THE TABELS ON THE DECK, SQUIRRELS KEEP DROPPING THEIR LEFTOVERS ON THE DECK AND TABLES, WE HAD TO COVER OUR DRINKS AND FOOD. ALL IN ALL THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT!
My family had a wonderful time at this cabin on a small lake. The cabin was cozy with plenty of kitchen utilities we needed to prepare nice meals everyday. A rowboat and paddleboat were available to use. The lake was stocked with bass and sunfish with at least 3 small snapping turtles which are very interested in boats.
This was a great space for our family to stay. The setting is absolutely beautiful. Our son enjoyed playing in the sand by the water. Everything was as pictured and as expected. The host responds quickly via telephone for any questions. It definitely could use some updated furniture & kitchen ware, but was still a good value for the cost. We would stay again.
Very large space. Lots of room. Could use some updating inside and out. Eves were full. No garbage bags or towels . No basics. Lots of notes posted Awesome lake front with paddle boat and row boat with own private dock. Water toys and beach area very nice.

The furniture is a year old. Being "up to date" is a subjective opinion.
The Paradise cabin was comfy and cozy! Having three bedrooms with four beds was perfect for the four of us. We walked around the pond in the new-fallen snow, cooked some delicious meals, enjoyed the spacious hot tub, and most importantly, hung out in the living room in front of the fireplace - lovely! We will be returning!
Three of us rented this property for a writing retreat and were pleasantly surprised with all of the amenities for the price point. The hot tub room is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen. Thanks so much for this stay!

This guest brought a dog in spite of the fact that it is clearly stated on the web site and their lease agreement that pets are not allowed. One of the beds with covered with thick with dog hair.
Loved staying at this property. Plenty of room, loved the indoor hottub. Saw maybe 1 mosquito all weekend! Only thing I'd comment on was there was a board loose on the deck when we got there and dishwasher was full. Both weren't big deals, would def stay again!
Great location for a large group. There are 4 cabins available on this property. Our group rented Serenity, Haven, & Paradise. I stayed in the Paradise cabin which has the best view of the lake. Some nearby places to go/things to do that I recommend: St. Mary's Distillery in Cashton, Titanic Canoe Rental in Ontario, Murray's on Main for dinner in Tomah. The cabin was comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. Molter's grocery store is less than 10 min away.
Loved the property- it worked really well for us! Basic cleanliness was ok, except small details like ceiling fans, corners, etc. but it was off-season so probably not as recently cleaned. Loved the hot tub- was warm and clean but no stairs to get in and out.
Only other thing was the spiral stairs were a bit tricky but with a room on the main gfoor worked ok for us.
We re-booked for next year and are looking forward to it :)
Hot tub was great, except

About the host
Hosted by Terry and Sally
My wife, Sally and I (Terry) came here from the Chicago area and built Birch lake from the ground up.
Why they chose this property
Coming from Chicago, we were very aware of the hassels of urban living and the need to occasionally get away from it all. We felt that many urbanites would not be satisfied with your average 'cabin in the woods', but instead would appreciate comfort and luxury.
What makes this property unique
We knew our location was perfect, halfway between Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul via interstate 90/94 all the way, 3 1/2 hours from each. The property is beautiful, wooded with a spring fed fishing/swimming lake which we named 'Birch Lake' because the lake is surrounded with white birch and pines. We then started building after giving much thought to what our guests would want, need and appreciate. One of the most outstanding features is peace, quiet and natural beauty.
