Bayshore Log Cabin is a unique vacation home, offering the ultimate 'Up North' experience; it is the perfect combination of a classic, rustic log home and a beachfront paradise. It is large enough to accommodate an extended family or several smaller families in total comfort, while reflecting the simplicity of its gorgeous natural surroundings and times gone by. The Cabin is nestled in the woods, where animal and bird life abounds, and opens onto a wide sandy beach directly on the bay, where every type of water activity can be enjoyed from morning to night. The Cabin was extensively renovated in 2010, including the installation of new baths, kitchen, plumbing, water softener, furnace, appliances and light fixtures, to provide upscale, modern comforts and amenities, while still retaining the Cabin’s original rustic character and charm. A vacation at the Cabin will create memories that last a lifetime: of spending endless carefree hours at the beach and in the water by day, and gathering together in the evenings for indoor or outdoor dining, games, or a roaring beach fire.
Located between the charming villages of Northport and Omena on Michigan’s beautiful Leelanau Peninsula, this large and carefully appointed log home is situated directly on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay, with 240 feet of private, wide sandy beach in a secluded wooded setting. Enjoy blissful days filled with sunning, swimming, boating, skiing, beach-combing, outdoor cooking, and spending true quality time with your family and friends. From the Cabin, you will have a perfect view of stunning sunrises over the water each morning, and the colors of the sunset reflecting off the bay on tranquil evenings. The wooded, 5 acre lot provides a sense of pleasant seclusion, screened from neighbors on either side.
This beautiful log home has expansive indoor living spaces with a vaulted ceiling and a magnificent two-story natural stone fireplace. The Cabin is decorated with comfortable high quality upholstered furniture appropriate to its rustic style, carefully selected antique pieces, rustic light fixtures & rugs, and curtains custom made with vintage-style fabrics.
The great room has multiple sitting areas for gathering around the fire, reading, or, for those who are so inclined, watching TV. The adjacent enclosed sunroom has windows on three sides that frame a picture perfect view of the bay and “Gull Island.” The sunroom is furnished with reupholstered antique rattan furniture, and has additional comfortable seating as well as a game table for puzzles, and board games. The sunroom opens to an outdoor deck on the bay side, and has tables for outdoor dining with a spectacular view. We provide two grills, one gas and one charcoal, for your outdoor cooking and dining needs.
The remodeled kitchen features custom-built and hand-painted cabinets with wrought iron hardware and fir counter-tops, along with a butcher block island. It has a new five-burner gas range, a new dishwasher, and a new sink and fixtures. Like the rest of the house, the kitchen is lighted with electrified wall and hanging lanterns, and decorated with vintage collectables. The adjacent pantry houses the refrigerator, and a brand new high-efficiency washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped with numerous small appliances, colorful dinnerware for indoors and out, and quality cookware for preparing and serving gourmet meals for a large gathering. The spacious dining area has a 9-foot farmhouse table which seats 10-12, and a rustic buffet. Additional seating is available at the nearby gate-leg table in the adjacent living room.
With four bedrooms including a large bunkroom and a queen sleeper, the home sleeps 12 people very comfortably, and is perfect for a large or extended family, or several smaller families. The spacious master bedroom, which is on the main floor of the Cabin, has a queen sized bed and a view of the lake. It has a private bath with a tub/shower combination, and has been completely remodeled with slate floors, subway and pebble tile, a custom built cedar vanity, and all new plumbing and fixtures. Two additional bedrooms on the second floor each have double beds, and share a second full bath, also newly renovated. All bedrooms feature quality beds, linens, curtains, rugs, colorful quilts and are furnished with charming antiques. Upstairs is a large bunkroom that sleeps eight. It is furnished with hand crafted rustic cedar log furniture, and has colorful quilts and curtains with a north woods theme. The bunkroom features colorful vintage style flooring and a half bath.
The Cabin is located on a beautiful sandy beach, complete with a dock and swimming ladder. With a gradual slope and crystal clear water, the beach is an ideal place for children to safely enjoy the beach and lake. Only the deck and spacious yard -- perfect for croquet or horseshoes -- separates the house from the beach. No climbing down dunes or stairs or navigating winding paths. Beach chairs, beach towels, and 2 kayaks (one is a tandem) for exploring the bay are provided. The sandy cove invites long strolls in search of Petoskey stones and other treasures.
After a day on the beach, you can enjoy the enclosed cedar outdoor shower. The home is on a cove in Grand Traverse Bay, with calmer waters, making it perfect for small craft boating and skiing. In the evening, enjoy the colors of the sunset reflecting off the bay, and gather around a beach fire (we have a fire pit on the beach and provide a supply of firewood).
The fantastic “Up North” experience does not end with summer. Enjoy spectacular foliage, biking, golfing, hiking, and wine tasting while making this charming log home your home base during the color season, at attractive rates. Our home is just a few miles from some of the most popular Leelanau Peninsula wineries, and is the perfect home base for winery tours.
It is also a story-book place to celebrate the holidays or spend a winter ski weekend. Nestled in the woods, you can snuggle in with the family, cook up your holiday feast, and gather round a roaring fire. We are only a half hour drive from family friendly cross country and downhill skiing at the Homestead, and Crystal Mountain is just over an hour away.
