423 Weiss Knob Ski Rd near Davis WV in Canaan Valley...TrAiL SiDe/Garagemahal lodge located in quiet spot in the highest valley of eastern America. Nearby the White Grass Ski Touring Center run by Chip Chase and Laurie Little, your friendly and welcoming hosts . Two bedroom furnished, sleeps five w/ fold out bed, full kitchen and bath with tub/shower, washer/dryer, and 2 porches. New bedding as of June 2026 with freshly painted interior. 2nd story and steps are required, 1025 sq. ft. apartment with south facing windows and forested mountainside views. Indoor garage parking. Spring water, warm forced air gas heat and portable air conditioner for the few hot midsummer heat spells. Ceiling fans, large screened windows, and insulated shades help keep the house cool and comfy. The house is very well insulated for year around comfort. We are at the end of a quiet rural road leading to the National Forest and very private although adjacent to the Chase home. Seasonal access to the WG sauna. Secluded 8 acre reserve with water falls, small native trout stream, and shelter within an old growth forest. Streamside trails throughout the property as well as over 100 kilometers hiking trails locally. Endless recreational opportunities in this outdoor paradise. Two night minimum. Pets allowed for $40 cleaning fee. We have a semi - homebody cat. Twila is quiet and friendly. It's walking distance to an Appalachian bubbling sand spring.

This was a perfect location for a weekend of hiking and relaxation. It was clean and cozy. We like to cook our meals in, and the kitchen was well equipped. We would definitely stay again!

It was a very nice place to stay. It was clean and had all the basics one would need- towels, bedding, plenty of cooking supplies. The area was very quiet and the owners were very friendly. There is a slight musty smell, but we were there in a hot and humid spell so that could be expected.

We both bragged on how important pets are to a family and found out that you were a vet. Appreciate the review and comments. The musty smell is likely a combination of the first floor garage that can at times be noticed and the high heat and humid smoky conditions of this summer. It certainly is not from the upper apartment itself and this is the first feedback like this and we'll try to figure out how to fix this for the renters of the future. Enjoy the rest of your summer and please visit the UP of Michigan especially Copper Harbor like we talked about while you were here. Cheers and love our pets! Chip and Laujrie

Garage Mahal is perfect! It’s clean, it’s convenient, it’s in a beautiful setting, the hosts are amazing, charming, and welcoming. The house is well stocked. There are thoughtful touches everywhere. Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay!

This was the perfect home base for a quick two-night trip. The location couldn't have been better—we loved being so close to the hiking trails and getting outside right away! After a long day of hiking, the comfortable beds and cozy space were exactly what we needed to relax. Highly recommend this property.

We had a wonderful stay in this comfortable and cozy apartment. We cooked, relaxed, and skied out the front door. The kitchen was well-appointed with everything we needed to make a nice meal and the living area was very comfortable. All in all, a very peaceful and relaxing getaway!

We had a great stay at the Garagemahal. It was perfect for us: clean, quiet, walking distance to White Grass and a nature preserve. It had everything we needed and is in a beautiful setting. We hope to return one day for more skiing and hiking.

The property was a great location to the event we were in town for. The Host were great. Yes they live right by where the rental is, but only saw them coming or going. They were very friendly to talk to and made you feel like it was your property.you had a nice yard to use and a nice hiking trail right there to hike. We had outer 2 dogs and was great for them to have a place to run. Would rent this place again. The house was very clean and they prov8ded what you need. It was nice that they l8ve right there as we locked ourselves out the one day and was able to just walk over and get another key. Thanks and hope to see you next year

Overall really great stay. House is in an excellent location near tons of hiking spots. Kitchen is well stocked. Very clean. Only minor critiques are that beds are not very comfortable and the unit is a little closer to the owner's house than expected.

Chip Chase and Laurie Little own and operate the White Grass Touring Center and Cafe since the 1970's. Chip is an all around naturalist while Laurie is one of the best read authors of two popular cookbooks.

Why they chose this property

Just over a mile to the western edge of Dolly Sods and Canaan State Park as well as adjacent to the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. A short scenic jaunt to the bubbling sand spring Refuge boardwalk. Under 5 minute drive to the Nat'l Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center and a 9.5 mile, 20 minute trek to Laneville and the bottom of Red Creek Trail in Dolly Sods. The house is full of maps, guide books, and chapters covering the fascinating local natural history. We are in the heart of Appalachian diversity, home to many workshops, group hikes, outdoor activities, and a birthplace of many rivers. Summers are cool, often filled with thunderstorms, and breezy clouds. Four distinct seasons and a winter often accompanied with fresh snowfall. Chip and Laurie hold a deep understanding of the area and are willing to share it.
