The Space
*Please note a spiral staircase is the interior access to all the bedrooms, which are located downstairs. There is a gently sloping path from the driveway to the downstairs outside access as an alternate route. Guests need to be able to navigate steps.
Originally designed in 1960 by celebrated architect Don Stewart—who also created UNC’s Carmichael Auditorium—this stunning home was inspired by the original owners’ time in Japan, blending clean modernist lines with subtle Japanese details. Shoji screens, warm wood tones, and thoughtfully preserved architectural elements make this home feel both serene and striking. Thoughtfully restored and updated in 2025, the renovation honors the home’s original design while introducing fresh, high-end finishes for today’s comfort.
