Wife and I just needed a place to stay for a night and weren’t in need of a crazy expensive hotel. Thankfully this place was available and very reasonable. Host was super easy to communicate with!

The property was disappointing. It’s in a beautiful home but it’s actually 2 units that are guest units, and separate from each other. The location is excellent and close to Terranea resort. But it was disappointing in a variety of ways. Here’s a list of the issues and if the owners read this, i hope they will renovate the property because it has a lot of potential and a great location. 1. Safety issue - the sleeping unit does not lock!! The sitting room unit does lock - but if all your personal items are in the bedroom, you have to leave all day and hope nobody makes the short 30 foot walk to the door and walk inside. 2. The unit, especially the bed and bath, were disappointingly dirty. There was hair from the previous renter on the floor of the bathroom and the disgusting carpet is decades old, worn out and dingy and it shows. 3. 3 of the lights didn’t work though they do have mini splits in both units so you can at least cool them. 4. The shower is a bit grungy and hot water takes forever to arrive. The bathrooms are also cluttered which contributes to the feeling of a 2 star hotel. 5. The screens on the windows of the bed suite don’t cover the windows for privacy.If I were the owners, who clearly have money , I would repaint both units, key both of them for the same locks, clean the bathrooms and change the carpet or replace with laminate. Then put it privacy screens that actually work, and a small running table in the sleeping unit for storage .

Value play

This is a decent rental, priced properly low in a high rent area of SoCal. Reasons for lower value include no hot water, no lock on the front door (albeit a safe, beautiful neighborhood), worn carpet, and design that is more of an efficiency vs. an apartment. I did not meet the owner, but he was very responsive. Good crash pad rental for a no-frills traveler who does not want to pay 700-1,000 for hotels in the area.

Pros: The property itself was nice, and has a beautiful view of the Palos Verdes area. In addition to the one bedroom, you get access to an office room with a table you can work at, lots of natural light, a microwave, Keurig machine, mini-fridge, electric burner. Check-in was easy, host responded quickly to questions. Bed was comfy. Price was very reasonable.Cons: The bedroom smelled a bit musty, and could only be locked from the inside which was kind of weird- if it wasn't in such a safe area, it would have felt sketch. Only one set of blinds out of 5 actually worked, so it was always dark inside the bedroom. Water takes a long time to heat up. Overall it was fine for a 2 night stay, but I probably wouldn't stay again unless I was out of other options.
