About this property
Wake Up in the Trees · Hot Tub · Mirrored Glass
Thoreau sits at the bottom of the hill, tucked into the woods — the kind of place where the trees feel close enough to be part of the room. Built around a single idea: get you as close to the woods as possible without asking you to give up a comfortable bed.
Inside, a queen bed sits directly in front of floor-to-ceiling glass with nothing but forest in view.
Named for Henry David Thoreau — who went to the woods deliberately, to see what they had to teach — it's a room that earns the reference.
About the Glass
During the day the mirrored exterior keeps things completely private — you can see out, no one can see in. At night that reverses. The bathroom is frosted, so no worries there — but we do ask that you use the curtains near the bed once it gets dark. Other guests are on the property, and it's just good neighboring.
Sleeping
• Queen bed facing floor-to-ceiling glass • Sleeps 2
Outside
• Private hot tub (striped towels provided — hot tub and bath towels are kept separate) • Propane grill with tools • Woodburning fire pit — firewood and a starter log are ready when you arrive. You'll find the wood box near the parking area. Keep the lid closed so it stays dry. • Seating for two with blankets for the cooler months • Mirrored exterior that reflects the forest during the day
Inside
• Queen bed facing floor-to-ceiling glass — wake up to unobstructed forest views • Small kitchen: apartment-size fridge, portable stovetop, and air fryer • Kitchen stocked with basic pantry items to get you started • Coffee bar: coffee maker and coffee • Spa-style bathroom with rain shower head, stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion • Towel sets for every use: bath, hand, face, makeup, and dedicated hot tub towels • Bluetooth speaker • Starter kit on arrival: 2 rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, a kitchen sponge, and trash liners. Worth packing a little extra for longer stays. • No TV — intentionally. The view is the entertainment.
The Shared Game Room (open to all Notestone guests — a short walk across the property)
• 85" Smart TV • Pool table and foosball • Basketball arcade, classic arcade machines, and a racing game
Getting Here and Getting Around
Notestone Reserve sits in the heart of the Hocking Hills — close enough to hit two or three trails in a day and still be back in time for the fire.
• Rock House — 3.3 miles · 7 min • Conkle's Hollow — 8.8 miles · 15 min • Old Man's Cave — 11 miles · 20 min • Ash Cave — 16 miles · 28 min
Cedar Falls, Cantwell Cliffs, and the rest of the state park system are all within a short drive. Cell signal on the back-country roads can be spotty — download your directions before you leave home.
Thoreau has a steeper approach. Under normal conditions it's accessible in most vehicles — but during winter months when ice and snow are a factor, 4WD or AWD is strongly recommended.
About the WiFi
We run Starlink satellite internet. It holds up well for most things — streaming, music, casual browsing. Video calls and long phone calls can cut out occasionally, especially on overcast days. If you're planning to work remotely, it can work, but plan for the occasional hiccup. We'd rather tell you upfront than have you find out mid-Zoom.
A Note on the Setting
We're in a wooded area and stay on top of regular pest control. That said, a ladybug or a curious spider showing up is just Hocking Hills being Hocking Hills.
Check-in: 4:00 PM · Check-out: 11:00 AM
A Few House Rules
We're a small, family-owned operation, and keeping Notestone calm and well-kept is a group effort. A few things we ask:
• No parties or events, including bachelor/bachelorette groups. And no glitter — it genuinely never goes away. • Registered guests only on the property • No smoking or vaping anywhere on the property, indoors or out • No fireworks, ATVs, hunting, or weapons on the property • No commercial photography or video without written approval • Hot tub: striped towels only, keep the cover on between soaks, and please don't adjust the temperature below 100 degrees — it takes several hours to recover • Curtains: please use them near the bed after dark • Septic system: flush toilet paper only, no garbage disposal at the sink • 4WD/AWD strongly recommended during winter months
Before You Arrive
All guests sign a short renter's agreement after booking. We'll send it over — quick, painless, and it helps us take good care of you and everyone else on the property.

Spotlessly clean! Kind host with quick communication. Unique place!Comfortable bed. Hot tub was great after a long day of hiking. 20-30 minutes from most restaurants/tail heads. Steep drive, you’ll want to brings a car that is good with hills. Would recommend this place :)
Hi, I'm Stacey — one of the founders of Notestone Reserve, and the person who's been hands-on in shaping every space on the property.
Restoration is something I think about a lot. The idea that something with potential can become something worth keeping — that broken pieces, arranged with care, can turn into something magnificent. Stained glass works that way. So does Notestone.
This property started as a vision and a lot of hard work. What it is now — ten units across 14 acres in the heart of Hocking Hills, each one named for a writer who paid attention to the world around them — is the result of believing that where you rest matters.
Every detail reflects what I personally look for when I travel: comfort without pretense, nature without roughing it. The bedding, the hot tubs, the fire pits, the game room — which sounds shared until you realize that most nights it belongs entirely to your group anyway. The kind of place where your own story gets written.
I'm proud of what we've built. And I'd love to have you here.
Welcome to Notestone Reserve.
What makes this property unique
Thoreau sits at the edge of the property, facing the woods — the most immersed you'll feel without sleeping outside. Mirrored glass walls, a queen bed facing the forest, private hot tub, and a fire pit surrounded by trees on all sides. A stay here tends to recalibrate something.
As a Notestone Reserve guest you'll also have access to our shared community game room — pool table, basketball arcade, classic arcade machines, and a big-screen TV lounge. Most nights it's all yours.
Notestone Reserve sits in Laurelville, right in the heart of Hocking Hills. The trails are a short drive away — but Thoreau has a way of making the outside feel like it's already come to you.
