I am beyond frustrated writing this, but the experience my husband and I just had with a Vrbo property in Reading, Pennsylvania demands your immediate attention. The listing was blatantly misleading. Not “slightly off.” Not “a little different.” Completely misleading. When we arrived, the exterior of the property looked like something out of a neglected, abandoned site—run-down, poorly maintained, and frankly embarrassing to even pull up to. It immediately created concern, discomfort, and a strong sense that we had been deceived. This is not what was advertised. This is not what anyone would knowingly pay for.Let me be clear: the outside condition alone was enough for us to walk away. Yes, the inside was decent—but that is not the point. You do not get to hide a property’s true condition behind carefully framed interior photos while completely ignoring the reality of what guests are walking into. The exterior matters. The first impression matters. The overall condition matters. And in this case, it was unacceptable. This wasn’t just disappointing—it felt dishonest.Vrbo positions itself as a trusted platform. Based on this experience, that trust is questionable. How does a property in that condition make it onto your platform without accurate representation? Where is the quality control? Where is the accountability? Vrbo care doesn’t care.

My daughter and I booked this apartment for one night to be able to stay in town for a show at the Santender Arena. The apartment was beautiful inside and pictured just like it showed on the app. However, we felt as two females that the neighborhood was not safe and we were eyeballed by loitering neighbors as soon as we found street parking and moved our bags into the apartment. Parking is very limited and we had to park in a space around the corner from the property. It was daylight when we arrived and we were uneasy walking to the property. The apt is located in a rowhouse at the end of the street and the unit is right inside the front door. It was not a safe entrance with very poor lighting, especially at night. On our return back from the show, we could find no parking near the property. There was no way we were walking thru this neighborhood at 10 pm and if we had found parking we did not feel comfortable leaving the car overnight. We ended up double parking in front of the apartment with our flashers on and dashing into the unit to gather our belongings. We loaded up our car and left for home not staying the night. This is so unfortunate because the host has done a fabulous job with the interior of the apartment but the neighborhood is not safe for women traveling alone. If our husbands had been with us, I’m still not sure if we would have stayed due to the parking situation at night and leaving vehicles unattended overnight.
