Unplug and unwind in the scenic foothills of the Ozark Plateau in a charming cabin along the Meramec River in Steelville, the “Floating Capital of Missouri.” Cobblestone River Resort & Lodge is a vacation destination with options for every one in every season, whether visiting alone or with others. This 26-acre nature retreat is nestled off a quiet, dead-end road only about five miles south of the I-44 Cuba Exit.
The property itself is a nature-lover’s dream. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by a wooded and winding driveway, native landscaping, and the fresh, woodsy air that sets the tone for your stay. Spend your mornings walking the private nature trails that loop through the woods and along the river, spotting deer, wild turkeys, and songbirds along the way. Afternoons are perfect for lounging on the large wraparound porch or grilling out with family and friends. As the sun sets, light up a campfire at one of the two dedicated bonfire rings or on the sand and gravel bar to roast marshmallows under the stars surrounded by trees and soft babbling of the river.
Guests are welcome to gather at the lodge with a wraparound porch and a pool table, ping pong table, and indoor lounge area. Nearby is a seasonal pool with a waterslide, toddler pool, and trampoline. For those who love a little friendly competition, there are multiple dedicated game areas with spectator seating to play bags, bocceball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, volleyball and badminton. Enchanting nooks in the wooded bluff can be found for those longing to reconnect with nature.
Walk or drive down a sloped path to our private, graveled river access. Just a few steps through the river takes you to a popular sand and gravel bar, where you can rock hound, gather around a campfire, fish, swim, or simply soak up nature and sun.
Take the opportunity to float 3 or 6-miles on arguably the best family-friendly portion of the upper Meramec River that passes a jumping cliff and a cold spring cave to explore. Raft, kayak, canoe, and tube rentals are available for a fee. Staff shuttles you upriver for your float back to Cobblestone property.
Every season has a special blessing: spring blossoms, summer river floats, fall colors, and winter solace. In the warmer months, guests can enjoy picnics by the water, while autumn transforms the entire property into a canopy of brilliant reds and golds. Winter brings its own charm with snow-dusted trees, cozy fires, and that magical stillness only nature can offer. The lodge has a small camp store with snacks, drinks, ice, and supplies. During the peak summer months, a daily meal package may be available for purchase, please inquire about this option upon arrival.
Cobblestone offers a rare kind of peace that stays with you long after you leave. Come see why guests have been returning here for decades.
Guests have access to the lodge and all amenities, season and weather permitting. The lodge is NOT staffed outside of the peak summer season, however the owners are more than happy to accommodate guest requests for equipment, floats, and the gift store or to answer questions. Our personal cell phone numbers are available at the front desk of the lodge.

Perfect for a relaxing vacation along a river where you can canoe or float on big inner tubes, or play badminton or volleyball or tennis or throw horseshoes or practice archery. There's also a swimming pool if you don't want to go in the river. Or just read a book and enjoy the fresh air. Our cabin was spotless and fully equipped. The hosts were excellent.

We live on the property and are always nearby to ensure that you feel welcome and that your needs are met. You’re welcome to engage as much or as little as you’d like, we’re here when you need us, and out of the way when you don’t.
We're the Butler family-keepers of Cobblestone Lodge and proud stewards of the traditions that make this place so special. In the spring of 2024, we took a leap of faith and purchased this beautiful property with one goal in mind: to preserve and nurture the kind of space where family, history, and heart matter most. Cobblestone Lodge isn't just a getaway-it's a living, breathing extension of our values, our dreams, and everything we love.
Our family includes Jean and Austyn Butler (parents and owners), along with our four children: Amber, Addison, Braedyn, and Nolan. We also consider Ryan, Amber’s long-term partner, a part of our family.
This dream has deep roots. Austyn and his son Nolan, grew up in the rolling landscapes of Missouri, while the rest of our family was raised just outside Chicago. Though our paths began in different places, the vision for a family retreat on the water has lived on in our hearts for years, being Jean's dream since she was a child.
Of course, no introduction would be complete without our beloved animals. Lola, Mac, and Fynn, our loyal dogs that often roam about, and Kiki the cat, aka the queen of Cobblestone as she believes. They may even pop by to say hello during your stay.
Cobblestone Lodge is more than a place to stay-it's a family endeavor, a passion project, and a piece of our legacy. We're so glad you're here to be part of it, even if just for a short while.
