Welcome to our Lakeview Retreat. We're just steps from a quiet 130-acre spring-fed lake and 1.5 hours from midtown Manhattan.
Just added dishwasher and washer-dryer.
Enjoy stunning views, swimming, kayaking, and nature trails. Inside, relax in a cozy space with a well-equipped kitchen and comfy seating. No motorboats or jet skis—just peace, nature, and the perfect place to unwind, explore, or recharge. The space Spacious one-bedroom apartment (approximately 800 square feet) featuring a comfortable living room, a separate TV room, and an updated kitchen. Every window offers stunning views of the lake, and a small private patio provides the perfect spot to relax outdoors.
The property spans over 3 acres of beautiful land, featuring a garden and a peaceful stream, all of which are available for your enjoyment.
The lake is especially inviting, with a firm sandy entrance—no muddy footing here! It can be a bit rocky in places, water shoes are recommended for the best experience.
For water fun, guests have access to two kayaks, a paddleboard, and boogie boards.
*** A Note on Accessibility: the house itself does not require any stairs. The walk to the lake is short but the driveway is steep, may not be accessible for all. Guest access Guests are welcome to enjoy over 3 acres of mostly wooded land on the property. The apartment is located on the lower level of my home, with every window offering a beautiful view of the lake. The shoreline is about 140 steps from the apartment.
You’re free to use the available water gear, including two kayaks, a paddleboard, boogie boards, and pool noodles. Water shoes are recommended, as the initial steps into the lake can be a bit rocky.
Please note there are no lifeguards on duty, so swimming is at your own risk. The water becomes deep quickly, so extra caution is advised for children and non-swimmers. If you’d like life jackets for the kayaks or paddleboard, just let me know in advance. Other things to note There are hiking trails throughout town, including one that follows the lake for about half a mile. From there, additional trails lead up to a 90-acre property that locals are welcome to explore.
Newtown also boasts three nearby state forests: Upper Paugusset, Lower Paugusset, and Huntington State Park. You can find more details here: AllTrails – Newtown Forests
There are many restaurants in town, along with two local breweries and an award-winning winery. Aquilas Nest Vineyards is a favorite spot—not only for its wines, but also as a stunning place to watch the sunset:

Beautiful apartment with lake views, nicely decorated. Nice quiet lake with no motorboats! Great kayaks, we thoroughly enjoyed this peaceful setting. Close to supermarkets and restaurants. Pat was very responsive to the few questions we had. Will come again.
Really comfortable, spacious and updated apartment with everything you’ll need! Across from a beautiful lake. Only complaint was you could hear footsteps if occupants on upper floor. Otherwise a great stay!
A bit dated but really a great location and very clean, comfortable bed. The shower is good and mirrors. Nice and big. Next to garage and can hear it open when owners leave upstairs. No iron. Kitchen could have some basics like sugar, decaf coffee or spices. The electric small kettle has rust in it. The freezer was leaking water into fridge. It was freezing when we checked in at night, a cold day. It warmed up nicely. Nice view but no sun except in early morning . Owners were really accommodating by washing our sheets and towels in gentle detergent and communication was excellent.thank you. All and all it was a good stay for us.
We enjoyed a very relaxing two-night getaway in Pat’s ground floor apartment. The views are gorgeous and the apartment is set up beautifully, with lovely art and numerous fascinating cookbooks. We found the bed incredibly comfortable. While we had all we needed for our light cooking, the kitchenware offerings were extensive. The Newtown General Store, recommended by Pat, is a must for delicious and inexpensive sandwiches. After a bike ride from Monroe to Trumbull, we had a great time sipping beers and listening to live music at NewSylum Brewing Co., on the grounds of a former psychiatric hospital. We hope to have another opportunity to return to Pat’s beautiful home and explore more of the area.
