About the host
Hosted by Adele Kurtz
I have dedicated my life as an artist and designer to making the world a more beautiful place.
This is my latest creation.
After a tragic ski accident seven years ago (from which my husband is still recovering mobility) we purchased this awesome oceanfront property that also needed a lot of TLC.
1.6 acres with two sorry buildings on a wild oceanfront bluff overlooking the famous seastack rocks and beaches of the Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor.
My first mission was to open new vistas and pathways leading to the Mighty Pacific through dense ferns and myrtle forests. I was experienced with steep landscape rehab after 20 years in the SW Colorado Rocky Mountains. The ocean and underground streams on this cliff present new challenges and always will. I work with Nature patiently, learn and grow. This is a work in process 6 years into development.
I did not want to disturb the cliff using heavy machinery so hand labor was required to clear or preserve individual plants and croppings, while cutting wide trails through the forest, adding staircases with handrails, gardens and decks along the way.
Meanwhile I remodeled both buildings with unique personalities befitting their service. One is our modest main house that features a lifetime collection of art and nature elements.
The other, which I offer to guests, is a converted poolhouse, in which I reclaimed old lumber from the original 40's building and added stone, pebbles, live-edge wood treatments repurposed to make new memories to share with my family and friends and now yours.

Why they chose this property
Brookings is a hidden gem of the Oregon Coast. Due to the Chetco effect of several rivers combined with the Pacific Ocean our micro-climate is often referred to as the "banana belt." We enjoy moderate temperatures year-round, never freezing and rarely above 75 degrees. Definitely out of the way, so it takes some effort. Worthwhile because you are travelling the most scenic coastal highway in the U.S.
The last port in southern Oregon, Harbor is famous for great fishing. From crabbing to Ocean charter adventures. Mighty rivers converge and offer other fishing and sporty adventures including kayaking.
Brookings has a laid-back vibe with plenty of great restaurants and ample shopping. The music and culture scene includes free Sunday concerts at Azalea Park and many festivals in the summer. Culture continues with artwalks, gallery shows and live theater available year round.
And the beauty of nature, here oceanside.... presents fresh drama year round, Changing every day, with the season, the winds and the tide.... in a climate that never freezes or gets too hot.
