Sawyers Lodge is a one-of-a-kind soundfront retreat on its own private peninsula in Currituck County, offering unobstructed water views from every room and over 200 feet of sound frontage. Just 5 miles from the Wright Memorial Bridge, you're close to Outer Banks beaches, restaurants, and attractions, yet tucked away in a peaceful gated setting. You're also seconds from H2OBX Waterpark.

Enjoy coffee on one of five decks, relax on the screened porch, or unwind by the private saltwater pool while boats drift by. End the day in the hot tub under the stars. With a private dock and boat launch access, this home is perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, crabbing, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Originally built in the 1920s as the G.C. Sawyer Hunting and Fishing Lodge and listed with Preservation NC, the home blends historic charm with modern comfort, including two living areas, an updated kitchen, and keyless entry.

Wonderful Vacation

House is very charming, we fished with our small boat using the boat ramp next door, crabbed from pier and caught huge ones. We kayaked and enjoyed the pool, the butterfly bushes attracted so many butterflies around the pool area. House is gorgeous, did have a hard time knowing the windows did not open which left us with fire escape route concerns in an emergency. Well water is a little funky in smell but we read reviews and brought gallons from store.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: If you want quiet and private this is it!We have stayed in Corolla, and Nags Head so this was different but amazing. You do have to drive to the beach but it is not far. Rooms are spacious, ceiling fans are in every bedroom which is a plus!Water is well water with an odor due to the location of this property, so you will need bottled water to drink but this was not an issue. Pool is amazing and hot tub was great, but the winner is the bluetooth speakers outside! The dining room table is antique but adds to the charm on the place. Enjoy a vacation here, we did!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Nice home and loved the views and the secluded area! We did have a problem with spiders though, I had a spider in my bed twice! Could have done without them for sure. Maybe exterminating the home during summer vacation season would be a good idea. There were areas in the home that could have used a bit more cleaning i.e. spider webs on the lamp shades. The air conditioner filters were filthy and affected the flow of air through the vents. But overall it is a nice home with plenty of room and nicely furnished. We would stay there again - just don’t want to share my bed with spiders!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Within minutes of arriving my father found trash and condoms in his dresser. We had to buy a whole new coffee maker because the one supplied, was in such terrible condition "rusty". Almost every dish in the residence had to be re-washed before use. The house had spider webs everywhere. I understood prior to our arrival that the house was older and would not be perfect but with the amount of money being spent it's disappointing. This was our 8th year visiting the outerbanks for a fishing trip with friends and family. We will not stay here again. At least the views were nice.

Too Much of A Good Thing

The location and private pool seemed as though we were on an island all to ourselves. Just minutes from the bridge to Kitty Hawk provided us acces to the beach without worries of being ensconced in a mob of fellow vacationers. Absolutely perfect.The rental agency went above and beyond to correct the satellite issue and shortage of towels when we first arrived.The squadrons of dragonflies made the experience all the more magical.Downside:The owners are changing the number of occupancy, and a family of our size would no longer qualify to stay here. Pity. It more than accommodated our group but now we are forced to find a new location.The weeds around the dock removed the possibility of fishing. We also had to do without the seadoo we had hauled all the way there as the seaweed absolutely choked the engine. Probably better luck for those with a boat. The ramp is literally feet away from the property. The combinations to get to grill and other items in the listing was never provided and we had to improvise for those items.

Sawyer Lodge - July 16-23, 2022

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: -Cleaning people did not arrive until 5:00pm. Very Hot day. They had some issues. Technically finished on time (6pm), but it was rushed- House was at 88 degrees when we entered. Took hours to finally cool down. Unacceptable first night. Thermostats should have been set to 74-75 for departing guests.- Fridge was turned down completely to 1 (not medium). Then it takes 24 hours until all is recouped. Led to having to dispose of a number of dairy products.- WiFi never actually worked during stay. Cable tech person came, but NEVER really got it fixed.-Reverse osmosis kitchen faucet took 24 hours to get working even after filter was changed.-Water smells and it turned towels and clothes brown (found oil Wednesday). This was the WORST ISSUE and I am sure you will continue to hear it from future guests. The warning that was left taped to dryer telling about it was not sufficient. Some clothes ruined as well in the washing machines. You really need to get this fixed by owner.Property Management did what they could and were always very polite and trying to be helpful, but although an absolutely ideal setting and location, improvements to at least this water issue needs to be resolved.

Then the water heater broke and spoke with a very rude property manager by the name of Blythe. Wants we got through all that we enjoyed our stay.

Extremely sorry for the housekeeping mishap. However you were well compensated by Beach Realty and the owners for the inconvenience. The water heater was replaced in less than 24 hours. The property manager you mentioned by name was not rude, in fact to the point of tears, after the extremely abusive manner in which you spoke to her. The home was not dirty because the owners had been there for two weeks previous to your stay cleaning inside and out.

A great getaway

This is a fantastic spot for multiple families. The amenities are wonderful and the location is perfect if you are looking for a quiet retreat. You need to bring your own drinking water, as even the filtered water has a lot of iron and is salty. We will come again.

Happy you enjoyed our historic home. We installed a very expensive water treatment system with an oversized reverse osmosis tank but still working out the kinks. Water issues are indicative to all of OBX due the fragile strips of land surrounded by marsh, sound and ocean. Always a little glitch to Paradise. As new owners we are making improvements constantly so please consider SAWYERS LODGE once again for your family getaway.

Not exactly what we expected

Reviewer Comments: I was told I would receive a text allowing us to go to property after it was cleaned. That didn’t happen. Took it upon ourself to go there at 6. Front door was open. Which turned out to be a good thing because code would not work. Had to call to have it set. Told beds would be made for our arrival. Linens were left outside in bins for us to do. If it were just adults the place was ok but not for kids. Have to drive for everything. Won’t stay there again.

Thank you for choosing SAWYERS LODGE for your getaway. Sorry for the housekeeping issue, the logistics of cleaning thousands of homes in a five hour window on Saturdays is daunting. Also sorry our photos and map did not express the uniquely secluded natural environment of the property, we will try to do better. Ninety percent of our guests are families with children that enjoy kayaking, watching the local fishermen, The Currituck Rural Center Park, OBX Water Park, Grave Digger Monster Truck Rides and having dinner while watching the yachts come in at the Coinjock Marina, oh and no traffic! Once you become familiar with all the Currituck Peninsula has to offer we hope you will once again consider our one of a kind getaway

House is in the marsh land and on well water

Our pool was dark brown , called realitor said it would clear up in few days and it was safe :( not what I expected . Second dsy they came out fixed pool . The first floor shower does not drain . There is soft spots in the floor , be careful as you walk. Very low water pressure. All 3 trash cans puked over w beer cans no liners. Called relaitor back they sent done one out to get most of the trash .Floors creak on top floor . They neglect to tell you the boat ramp is for the local crabbers. The pictures are outdated , and there are a couple boats that look sunk when you look to the ramp ,it’s marsh land. Our boat motor kept getting seaweed to the pint we couldn’t go anywhere til blades were cleaned. Ended up driving to Rodanthe toPut our boat in after that . This was supposed to be a graduation gift for my son who just finished college. We had 8 of us. The weather didn’t cooperate w our plans. Good pint. Kitchen fully loaded indoor screened porch ,loaded w board games to play. Overall if you like marsh land and want a get away / w not e or ting yo use pool or hot tub or have a good shower not feeling slimy after showering - Msybe this is the place for you . Very disappointed it wasn’t ready ,pool was disgusting looking , trash cans overflowing , fishing in the marsh was non existent ! Couldn’t use kayaks or paddle boards. Marsh land covered inSeaweed. Beds were very uncomfortable and lopsided. Need updated ! Very disappointed :(

As the new owners we were very dismayed to read your review. We thought the photos and video portrayed the environment but we will try harder to portray the fact Sawyers Lodge is a secluded sound front property on the marshy entrance to the Currituck Sound Our new top of the line soft water treatment system has remedied some of the water issues but the close proximity to the water does have a few drawbacks. We have changed all the mattresses, added more comfortable furniture and upgraded the pool to salt water.

May Vacation 2019

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a great time!! Even with our friend falling down the steps our 2nd day there. My husband fished. ( not to great). My daughter and I stayed in pool most of the time. Our friend stayed in swing. We had a few problems but the people at Beach Reality were great and fixed over phone or came over. The only bad thing we’re the snakes!! Thanks for letting us have a great time!!
