About the host
Hosted by Allie
As an avid traveler myself, I always dreamed of managing a space that I could also share with travelers to make them feel welcomed and comfortable. It’s rewarding to share a space that feels like home and to help travelers create memorable experiences during their stays. Whether it’s providing local tips, offering a cozy place to unwind, or just making sure my guests feel comfortable, hosting allows me to share the feeling of comfort I also seek while I am on vacation.
Why they chose this property
After visiting the surrounding areas near Knoxville like Norris Lake and the Smoky Mountains, I was hooked. Knoxville is centrally located and has all the comforts of city living while still being close enough to the beautiful nature that Tennessee is known for. Old City in Knoxville blends historic architecture with urban edge. You’ll find cobblestone streets, exposed brick buildings, vintage signage, and remnants of the past repurposed into modern lofts, boutiques, and music venues. The district has a bohemian-meets-industrial vibe, popular with artists, musicians, students, and young professionals.
What makes this property unique
Built in 1924 originally for the Bowman Moore Hat Company, the JFG building became home to JFG Coffee Company in 1926, when the company, founded by James Franklin Goodson in 1882, established its roasting and packaging operations there. The building retains an industrial, concrete structure with high ceilings, original character, and quiet interiors due to thick floor separations—much of the coffee-roasting equipment was removed, but signs of its past remain, even coffee stain on the ceilings in some lofts.
JFG Flats embodies Knoxville’s industrial past and urban revival—turning a once-active coffee roasting plant into stylish downtown residences while retaining historic character. The building and its sign are landmarks in the Old City’s architectural heritage.
