About this property

Authentic, Rustic, Historic Log Cabin

Sparkling clean and sanitized. Large restored log home located just south of Lexington in historic Richmond, KY. Beautiful private property including picturesque ponds with docks and paddle boats where guest can fish, swim or float. There are horses, opens fields, wooded areas, abundant wildlife, picnic tables, fire pit, fishing ponds and out door grill. The 4200 sq ft home is furnished with treasures from around the world, art, pottery, crystal and some primitive antiques. A rustic style parlor offers a large stone fireplace and a perfectly restored and playable pump organ from the 1800s. The welcoming wrap-around porch was featured in the book Perfect Porches and features porch swings and big hammocks.

You’ll have your own two acres, but still have the convenience of level paved roads in a quiet neighborhood just two miles from the nearest gas and groceries.

The fabulous Red River Gorge is 45 minutes east into the rugged mountains of Kentucky. And 45 minutes North is Keenland, The Horse Park, Lexington and the Blue Grass airport. And The Ark Encounter and Creation Museum is less than 2 hr away in Northern KY.

This rambling handcrafted work of art invites visitors to recall days past when time spent on a porch swing was enlightening, and a stroll around a pond is healing. There’s an enclosed hot tub off the upstairs bedroom that extends into pine trees with an outside entrance onto the back deck. It overlooks the pond and is totally private. The big windows provide beautiful views year-round, perfect sunsets and stars twinkling through the pine boughs at night.

A king sized bed and private bath are on the first level in a very large master bedroom. Off the master bedroom is a separate bedroom with a standard and two twin beds. Up the stairs from there is a queen bed in a room that opens into the hot tub room, a large bathroom with garden tub and washer and dryer. This area also has a stone fireplace with gas logs. Down the hall on the second floor are two more bedrooms. One is large with a queen size bed and record played. The fifth bedroom has a queen size bed with a full view of the pond and private entrance onto the upper deck. There is a bathroom in this area, too.

Also, on this second floor is a balcony room that overlooks the large floor-to-ceiling hand laid stone fireplace. This area has a large comfortable couch and is the perfect spot to escape to read a book.

A unique spiraling staircase leads to the open kitchen on the first floor. The dining room off the kitchen is a one room log cabin with a handmade oak table and woven hickory bottom chairs that seat 12 comfortably.

This was a great place for family and friends got get together. The cabin and grounds were large enough that we did not feel crowded but we always felt like we were together due to the unique layout of the cabin. We really liked the fire pit in the back. We also enjoyed the hot tub on the second floor.

Group of friends for weekend getaway

We enjoyed our stay in Martin Manor. It was clean and well l furnished. We had a small issue but owners went over and above and made it right. We would absolutely stay again. The owners were great to work with.

Beautiful setting

Enjoyed our three night stay. We had plenty of room for six ladies. Very well stocked with everything we needed. The setting is absolutely beautiful and serene. Unfortunately, the weather was chilly and rainy and we couldn't enjoy the outdoors. Thanks for sharing your log home with us.

Family Vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed all the amenities of this site. It was well appointed and provided a very comfortable retreat. The history of the building and creativity in incorporating three original log cabins into the design was intriguing and lent a sense of charm and tranquility that was truly unique.

Simply beautiful!

Martin Manor's description didn't do it justice. We six were overwhelmed with the character, peacefulness, and warmth of the home. Weather did not permit enjoying the paddle boats or pond, but we loved the grounds and found the house to more than meet our needs for a fellowship gathering of friends from five states. We enjoyed visiting with another friend in nearby Versailles, a bourbon tasting, and two wineries during our stay. We would definitely recommend a stay at the Martin Manor.

Wedding Group Reunion!

Manager John, is by far, the BEST, most attentive manager, we have ever dealt with, in all of the years, 10+! , that we have used VRBO. And his property is proof. Beautifully appointed, accommodating, and worthy of the travel. Our group has been together almost 50 yrs now. This estate we will be back too for that grand "50" ! Elly

Great place for a family get together

We had to gather from various parts of the country for a funeral in Richmond, Kentucky, and were in search of accommodation for our group. This log cabin on VRBO turned out to be the ideal choice for our party of 9. It provided the perfect balance of staying together while enjoying individual rooms, beds, and bathrooms. The cabin facilitated our needs perfectly, allowing us to share meals and engage in board games we brought along. The picturesque surroundings added to the charm, and we even had the delightful opportunity to feed apples to the horses. We unanimously agreed that if we ever find ourselves back in Richmond, this would be our go-to place without a doubt. Our experience was made even better by the fantastic host who was a pleasure to work with. A big thank you for hosting us and making our stay so memorable!

Girls Bookclub Getaway

If you could give Martin Manor a 10 star review we would! We traveled from San Diego to Martin Manor for a 5 day getaway after reading the book Giver of Stars. Martin Manor just could not have provided our group with a more memorable experience. The log cabin is very spacious, comfortable and so welcoming from the very first step you take through the front door. You will love the charm of every nook and cranny of this beautiful home. Beyond the beauty and charm of this log cabin, the grounds are just breath taking, a little slice of Heaven on earth. The host family, The Martins, were gracious, kind, loving and giving beyond! We all felt like we gained a new part of our family after spending time here. We will all definitely be back some day.

Beautiful cabin!

We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend with our family. There were 3 families with kids ages 8-18 plus grandma and we had plenty of room for everyone. The pond was a refreshing swim temperature & also fishing fun! The hot tub was great for finishing off each day. Things we did at Martin Manor: swam, fished, slept on hammocks, played games, roasted marshmallows, karaoke (off our laptop) & fed the horses. The kitchen is very well stocked and you won’t need any extra items. We brought 2 crocks but there was already one there. Maybe an additional skillet (non stick of some kind) would have been handy for eggs & French toast but we managed without. The dining room table was perfect size for meals and games.

Perfect for our family reunion

Our family originated in Salyersville, Kentucky, but most of our parents and cousins moved away to find work. Decades later, we returned to visit the old home places and spend time together—but there's no where big enough for all of us to stay together in Salyersville. The best solution was Martin Manor! We spent the weekend basking in this gorgeous, unique space. No one had ever seen a house like it: It's got two log cabins in it! The kids loved the hot tub, paddle boats, and the animals that can be found everywhere. We loved the comfy beds, calming views, and porch swings. Our hosts were the best hosts I've ever experienced—they rushed straight home from church to snap some family photos of us before we had to get on the road. They were always helpful and sweet. Treat yourself to a memorable stay here!

Beyond what we expected for our family get-together!

Martin Manor was a lovely log home with a wonderful legacy to offer us! We were greeted by the owner, Dinah, and her 2 sweet "guard dogs". She gave us a quick tour of the place then left us to settle in. The grounds are beautiful with fishing ponds, horses, porches and hammocks. The log home is filled with the Martin family momentos and historical keepsakes! The collection of local pottery is quite extensive, even the "everyday" dishes are locally made. While it rained the entire time we were in Kentucky, it was a perfectly pleasant time for us. The owners felt so bad that the rain never stopped, they brought us a surprise to share! The hot tub was a favorite at the end of the day, a nice place to unwind and chat. There is so much room in this special house that we each had places to read, play cards or do crafts. If you are considering this place for your next get away, don't hesitate...book it! You won't be sorry.

Great place for a group to stsy

Martin Manor was a great place for our group of 5 couples and 1 single to stay for our 50th college reunion. There was space galore and a beautiful view of the lake/pond. Even though there was a hot tub and also activities at the lake, we really did not have time to use them. My husband and I did enjoy the paddle boats on the last day. There are two sets of stairs leading upstairs which really helped with our group. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, plates and dinnerware, although I forgot to look in the island storage the first day! The dining room table could accommodate 8-12 people. The king suite on the first floor was very roomy. A smaller bedroom with a double and 2 twins opened into that room. There were three bedrooms with queens upstairs. The 6th bedroom was actually a living room but could become a bedroom with the use of an air mattress or fold out couch. It was a beautiful place for our reunion. The owner was next door and very helpful when we had questions.

Very nice house on idyllic property

We had a great stay at John’s house. It is a really fun house with a beautiful wrap around porch, a nice backyard and a pond you can paddle boat on. A couple notes: - If you have significant mold allergies you probably want to avoid this house. It is old and in a humid climate. We had a member of our group that ended up having to get a hotel because the mold smell was too bad, but she is very sensitive to it. - You technically can swim in the pond, but I wouldn’t recommend on planning on it. It is great for paddle boating on, but it has a lot of algae. - The house is in a rural area which comes with its positives and negatives. The outside furniture was less than ideal cleanliness wise because it seems the birds tend to like to sit on it to do their business on the regular. So just be prepared to clean it if that kind of thing bothers you.

Our group of 8 was a mini-reunion of friends who attended Berea College together in the late 1960s. This home is spectacular, and we were delighted to learn that it had been built from separate log cabins by one of our classmates. While we experienced a rather typical central KY fall with rain and cool weather on all 5 days of our stay, the many cozy seating areas supported hours of conversation and reminiscing. The outdoor areas were delightful to gaze upon, even with the drizzle. On first glance, arriving guests may think they are in too urban an area, but the entire back side of the home opens to spacious views of nature....and in warm, non rainy weather, there are numerous places to sit, swing, and enjoy the firepits, etc. We only left the premises once during our stay....for dinner in Berea....that says it all!

Martin Manor provided the perfect location for our 10th annual girls trip! The grounds- with horses in the paddock, many ponds and docks- wrap around porch, multiple porch swings, lots of nooks to read and a cozy great room for late night conversations was ideal! The one thing to note would be there are 5 bedrooms and then the living room with an air mattress. I’m certain we’ll be back!

Early settlers in KY cut down ancient trees and hand-hewed logs to build one-room log cabins. We built this home using two pioneer cabins and a mule barn. It is a handcrafted work of art that we lovingly created and enhanced. This spring we built a new home using two more old log cabins and moved into it. We wanted to keep our big house intact and available to share. We live just past the barn on the same property and are available to welcome and give tours of the house for guests. Or guests can choose total privacy with no contact. Our first guests left us a glowing review and we are are really happy to think of people experiencing the beauty of our precious home, our farm, fishing ponds and wooded areas.

Why they chose this property

Totally unique! Beautiful historic restored log cabin with picturesque view of pristine pond and filled with treasures. Experience the best of rural Kentucky, enjoy the magnificent home and explore acres of fishing ponds, horses and more.

What makes this property unique
