Looking for a retreat that feels like you're far away but still close to everything? The Wild Refuge Lodge may be just the spot for you. This secluded rustic lakefront lodge on Green Lake, located on 125 acres of woodlands, offers a beautiful, quiet spot for you to unwind. The large log home features 6-bedrooms and 4-full baths. Up to 14 guests are welcome. Walk through the front door into a huge living room, including an electric fireplace, with sitting a area that looks through a two-story wall of glass onto the woods and waterfront. Off the living area is the full kitchen and dining room that also face the lake. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms on each level. Beds include three kings, a double, and six twins. A suspended catwalk spans the two-story living area connecting the second-floor bedrooms. Additional dining area off the kitchen offers a fun space for families to gather.

Outdoors, children can run freely while parents relax with no worries about traffic. Spot deer in the morning and hear owls and loons at night. A porch-side picnic table allows alfresco dining with spectacular views across the water as the sun sets over the Betsie River – a protected national wilderness area.

Walk down to the dock for a late-afternoon swim, or – if you’ve brought your own boat – launch it at the public boat access, next to the river just across the water. Green Lake offers clear waters and welcomes boaters and fisherman. Take a swim in the deep cool waters. Due to the nature of this property, outdoor fires are prohibited.

Renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts, a cultural hub for talent from around the world, is just 10 minutes away. Traverse City – with its annual film festivals and beloved Cherry Festival – is 30 minutes away. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is just 40 minutes away.

Family Vacation

Property was as advertised. Overall the house was clean and ready for us on arrival. This house is located down a long driveway and is nestled in the woods so we did expect it to be rustic in setting. Access to Green Lake is wonderful and we did a lot of swimming right off the dock. Plenty of room for four families and a total of 13 guests!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Lovely location. Terrific shared spaces with excellent dining facilities for a large group. My only real problem was the total lack of bedside stands or any kind of light for reading in bed. I need my glasses by my bedside, but nothing doing here. Showers were not great, but marginally ok. Very clean. Property manager was very responsive when needed.

Location was OK. Property needs some upkeep. Main door was open when we arrived. Basement door to the outside was closed but unlocked. Property has a dock but there are no provisions for tying up any kind of boat.Will not refer this property to anyone asking for a recommendation.

Amazing lake, amazing property, plenty of room. Everything wonderful. They need to get the mouse situation handled, no excuse for this. Home is fantastic. Need to update plumbing and clean drains.

A winter getaway

I booked this place for a secluded COVID safe birthday weekend. It was winter so you could not enjoy the lake but the house itself made up for it. There was plenty of room for all the guests to hang out as well as a few different areas to choose from. The house was clean, warm, and has the perfect rustic cabin vibe I was looking for. Heads up, cleaning supplies is not provided so bring your own trash bags, wipes, paper towel, etc. I would highly recommend for a large group and a long weekend!

Traverse City downtown a great rainy one day excursion. THe dock is a great attribute - great launch pad for paddleboards and boating and jump off swimming in a sandy area. This area of the lake is very quiet and and the property secluded - perfect for us.

It was unseasonably warm during our stay, but it was comfortable enough with the fans that were supplied. There was a problem with the screen door that the management company dealt with immediately.

Green Lake is beautiful, with clear water and the lodge is located close to a boat launch and the river, which is great for kayaking. There was plenty of space for our extended family. The lake views from the house are beautiful. Campfires are not permitted, but the yard provides plenty of seating with great views of the lake. The water is shallow near the shore and gets deeper gradually, perfect for swimming, and the “yard” has beautiful mature trees for the perfect northern feel. Would definitely rent again.

Except the house has not been cleaned verywell, Cobwebs everywhere, floor dirty dead flies in the Garage/Dining room. Grounds and the house have not been taken care of. No one from property management contacted with us during our stay. House needs to be updated, AC would be nice and a good cleaning, a soap dish just fell off the shower wall while taking a shower. Fishing was good and Interlochen was nice, Area was beautiful. I would recommend the area but not the house. It was just the overall house appearance was not good.

A Nice Vacation Spot

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This large home was the perfect size for our family. Plenty of bedroom and bathroom space. It's located on a beautiful lake and tucked into a private spot in the woods. It's well-equipped with kitchen basics and towels and even has a grand piano (that needs work) for the enjoyment of musical families. The downside is that it was overrun with mice and ants, despite several visits from the exterminator and the additional traps we purchased and set. It's in need of a DEEP cleaning - food crumbs and toys under couch cushions and mouse droppings everywhere. Some of the furniture is past it's expiration date to the point you wouldn't want to sit on cracked and peeling chairs. It's a great option for large families but needs some additional attention to make it truly guest ready. The cleaners were sent for an additional touch-up during the week after we contacted management and we appreciated that.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Pros - The property and lake are beautiful, we liked Green lake for tubing and boating. The sandy beach on the opposite side of the property from the dock was a hidden gem. Bald Eagles flew by regularly. Nice quiet location. Enough room for our 12 family members to sleep and spread out. Cons - Definitely felt like the pictures and price oversold the house. Musty smell and dirty bathrooms. Upstairs bathroom had a slow drain so you'd be standing in 1 inch of water. Basement and outdoor living area (garage) were musty and dark. We caught two mice in the kitchen, after finding droppings on the counter. Overall the property could have been nicer with some work.

Nice Rustic Rental

The location, property and lake were amazing! There is a boat launch just a short drive from the house and the home's dock is nice. The water was clear, the fishing was awesome, as was kayaking and paddleboarding (recommend going into the Betsie River, across the lake from the house). The lake was not crowded for a weekend in August. There was plenty of space for our large group and one dog is permitted which was a plus for us. The kitchen is well-equipped. The views from the large great room windows are stunning. There was a strong wi-fi signal and netflix/dish for TV. Sufficient outdoor seating was provided, but we brought bag chairs as well. The grill is a nice addition. We had a great time and have talked about returning! Things to consider: The cabin is older and in the forest, so it's not spotless and had a slight musty smell (but nothing some spray and candles can't fix). It could use some repairs...some electrical plugs and lighting did not work, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Some of the beds were uncomfortable so bring an extra air mattress or two, water draining was slow in some of the showers, doors creaked (wd-40 would fix) and windows/screens were dirty (and some didn't open). No mice issues - there are traps set. The oven drawer needs cleaned out though. The yard could use some mowing/weeding, but it's a forest setting so it didn't bother us. Easy check in/out. We'll definitely consider it for next year.
