Yurt #1 absolutely blew me away. It was every bit as beautiful and whimsical as the photos promised. Heidi went above and beyond from the moment I booked. She helped me arrange a last minute extra night without any hassle, and even made sure there was a warm fire going and a s’mores kit waiting for me when I arrived late in the evening. The bathhouses was hands down the cleanest I’ve ever seen. And I have stayed at campsites across the whole US. Plenty of hot water, fresh toiletries, and clean washclothes towels. Inside the yurt I had everything I needed, a plug for my electronics, a coffee maker stocked with cream and sugar, and a real comfortable bed. Warm sheets and a space heater kept that low 40s night feeling extra cozy.10/10 would stay again. Heidi was absolutely amazing, and this place is pure magic.

About the host
Hosted by Heidi Brown
We’re your co-hosts Heidi and Michael, a husband-and-wife team serving as on-site property managers and creative directors for The Retreat at High Rock. After years in hospitality, event, and media work, we’re now shaping this space into a place where travelers can slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the magic of the Gorge. When we’re not hosting, you’ll probably find us tending the fire pits, filming new ideas, or hiking the nearby trails with our son.
Why they chose this property
Tucked into the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, our corner of Stanton feels like stepping off the grid without losing touch completely. We’re just 25 minutes from Natural Bridge State Park and the best hiking, climbing, and kayaking in Red River Gorge. Even closer, you’ll find winding country roads, old barns, and the kind of quiet that lets you hear your own thoughts again. It’s a place where mornings start with mist over the trees and nights end under a sky full of stars — the perfect balance of wild and welcoming.
What makes this property unique
The Retreat at High Rock isn’t a resort — it’s an experience. Each yurt and cabin has its own personality, connected by winding footpaths, shared fire pits, and a spirit of community. Guests come here to unplug, recharge, and rediscover a slower rhythm surrounded by forest and sky. You’ll find handcrafted touches, cozy details like electric blankets and lanterns, and plenty of space to breathe.
We’re in the midst of transforming this hidden gem into a creative retreat and gathering space — a place for travelers, artists, and nature-lovers alike. Over time, you’ll see new amenities take shape: seasonal events, workshops, and a small retail nook offering local sundries, merch, and a curated vintage collection of outdoor wear. It’s a work in progress, evolving with care and intention — and you’re part of its story when you stay here.
