About this property
Connemara Comfort & Tranquility…Sauna & king beds
The house seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern luxury, offering a truly unique and peaceful retreat. This beautifully restored property ensures privacy and tranquility, making it the ideal sanctuary for those seeking to unwind and reconnect with nature. Experience a stay in Glencroff, your secluded oasis in the heart of Connemara.
The space
As the poet John O' Donoghue aptly put it, "When you live in a valley you have your own private sky"—and here you'll feel that sense of exclusive serenity.
Escape to Glencroff, a superb large house nestled in the breathtaking Maumturk Mountains, just minutes from the wild Atlantic coast. Perfectly situated in the heart of Connemara on the iconic Wild Atlantic Way, this isn't just a place to stay—it's an invitation to immerse yourself in Ireland's most spectacular natural beauty.
We are very proud of this our beautiful home which we having lovingly created together. Step inside and discover generously proportioned living spaces designed for comfort and relaxation. The house has two bedrooms, thoughtfully appointed, one with 2 king-size beds and the other en suite with 1 super-king size bed, ensuring a restful night's sleep for all guests.
The large FAMILY READY KITCHEN, complete with modern conveniences, is a joy for cooking and gathering. Beyond the kitchen, you'll find a grand, old-style sitting room, perfect for lively conversations or quiet contemplation. Adjacent to this, a separate old parlour room offers an additional intimate space. Throughout the house, you'll discover a treasure trove of books, inviting you to curl up in one of the many cozy reading areas and lose yourself in a story.
While we encourage you to disconnect and enjoy the stunning surroundings, Wi-Fi is available throughout the house, allowing you to stay connected if needed. We believe in the simple pleasures of life, and therefore, you won't find a TV here, encouraging you to embrace genuine relaxation and conversation. Instead, revel in the abundant reading materials and the sheer joy of a truly peaceful environment.
Glencroff is more than just a house; it's a feeling. It's the warmth of a cozy evening, the crispness of mountain air, and the endless beauty of Connemara stretching out before you. Come and discover your own private haven on the Wild Atlantic Way.
The house was built in the early/mid 19th century, with the newer addition completed in 2007. Both are connected by a beautiful bridge - which is a room in itself - and is the ideal spot to sit and read or chat. The house retains the original fire place, the traditional thick stone walls associated with old houses, and the original flag stones on the sitting room floor. This was the home of the O’ Neil family, and in 1924 the entire family of 8 daughters and 1 son, together with their parents, emigrated to Canada. Today their descendants still keep contact with us and many have visited their ancestral home over the years.
After the departure of the O’ Neil’s, the house lay abandoned until the 1950s, when a local family moved in for less than a decade. After they left, it fell into significant decline until Noel purchased the property in the early 2000s and lovingly restored the house. We are very pleased to have a photo of the O’ Neill family which was taken aboard one of the famous Cunard liners as they sailed across the Atlantic from their beloved home in Galway to Canada.
Bedrooms: 2 LARGE bedrooms

Living Areas: Large old-style sitting room & separate old parlour room.

Other things to note
Three shy OUTDOOR cats who are fed daily by our kind neighbour.
Please TAKE CARE WHEN OPENING THE FRONT DOOR as it opens out, and a gust of wind - which is common enough in the valley - can cause the door to get damaged.
Much as we love DOGS they ARE NOT PERMITTED as we are in a valley with sheep roaming freely....(plus the cats wouldn't be too pleased!)
