Upon entering the stables you are immediately taken by the beauty of the space.Where once English quarter horses were housed you will find a luxurious one bedroom apartment complete with cooks kitchen, bedroom with queen size bed, a spacious living room with original plank floors and library gallery. The classic leather couch and furnishings add to the charm of the space.,there is an unbelievable dining room with the original massive work table beautifully re-purposed for fine dining. The old feed room is now a pristine white tiled bathroom with large stall shower and fine white towels. The equestrian theme is throughout. The original wainscotted walls were patiently restored to their original rich brown color and the french doors and barn windows bring in natural light. The rooms are wonderfully lit for the evening also. Built in 1931, the carriage house stables were part of a great English tudor estate. The main house on the property is a treasure. There were three owners since built, the previous one owning the property for more than forty years. As years passed, it fell into disrepair and was in a sad state when the current owners, angelo and tony came along. Now fully restored to it's former glory, some say even better than ever, you will find a serene private setting incomparable to anything in the surrounding area. Take the time to relax on your stone patio furnished with lovely garden table and chairs and enjoy the gardens and view. Perhaps alfresco dining with a glass of wine. A stay at the carriage house stables or the beautiful loft apartment above will be a truly memorable experience.

The property is lovely. It is as advertised. The place is very clean and very well appointed. Our host Angelo met us when we arrived and was very helpful and informative about local restaurants, and areas of interest. We really look forward to going back and spending more time. at the stables. A gem.
Lovely setting and beautiful equestrian decor. The hosts provided information about local sites and restaurants. Perfect and peaceful getaway for 2 people.

Ideal for two
It's a beautifully renovated stable apartment, ideal for two, very comfortable. The kitchen's well equipped too and there's plenty of good groceries to be had, particularly the fine farmers' market in town. There's a lot to explore in the area too, from swimming holes to historic sites, plenty of good fare to be had in Kingston and surrounding towns. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this location and we'll keep it in mind for our next trip up river.

Wonderfully unique property!
Once again you have made us welcome at our "home away from home". The new stable accommodations are charming, cozy and comfy -- a very creative, imaginative renovation of a unique property. Our family and friends were suitably impressed! What a treat to host Sunday brunch around that magnificent hand crafted dining room table. Angelo and Tony we always appreciate the opportunity to spend time in our home city reconnecting with familiar places and faces -- you have provided the perfect place to do just that.

Back again
This is our second time staying at The Stables. We usually don't write two reviews for the same place but The Stables is special enough to warrant it. We stayed with Tony and Angelo in June and were lucky enough to be able to stay another two nights in August. When we visited the last time, we felt they had thought of every detail but we were able to see a few added touches since we first stayed with them, We noticed a comment from another guest about the brightness in the bedroom and want people to know the owners have addressed this and we did not experience any difficulties at all. If you are looking for a unique, comfortable, immaculate and beautifully decorated place to stay, in a quiet, peaceful environment, stay here!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful review. I am glad you cleared up the streetlight issue! We look forward to your next visit,
Angelo
Just stayed at the carriage house for a month and thoroughly enjoyed the whole ambiance of English riding and actually getting to eat and sleep in what originally were box stalls!
Negatives were the cottage was so dark inside, had to turn on every light to be able to read, the toilet area is very small for us oversized guests although the shower is roomy, and despite being very clean for us, the house itself could use a real deep clean.
I would absolutely recommend this incredible place especially if you’re nostalgic for riding. The host is wonderful, the main house and grounds are beautiful and it’s a once in a lifetime experience you shouldn’t miss. Thank you Angelo!

My first 4 star review.
The color of the place is a rich chocolate brown. Yes, you are supposed to turn on the lights, it's called atmosphere.
There are 2 sets of french doors, 8 windows, wonderful day light.
When a guest stays for a month and brings sooo much stuff it is very difficult for the house keeper to clean around it all.
The apartment is professionally cleaned each time a guest leaves.
I think you must have enjoyed your stay and thanks for coming.

feeling lucky to have stayed here!
My boyfriend and I just spent an amazing weekend touring several towns in the Hudson River Valley and felt this was the perfect spot to have used as a home base! The carriage house was lovely -- beautiful decor, comfortable bed, great location, clean bathroom and kitchen. And the best part was Angelo, the owner! He was gracious and accommodating --even when we locked ourselves out early one morning! Truly a spectacular space!
The only thing that makes me a bit hesitant about giving an "excellent" rating and believe me, it almost was, is that the bedroom backs up to a quiet street where a street light stays on ALL NIGHT! The curtains in the bedroom were not adequate enough to block out the light. When you stay -- bring an eye mask and you'll be set!

Creative Carriage House Lodging
My husband I were looking for a rental to stay in while visiting our son at Bard College and came across this unique property just 10 minutes away. The pictures do not do this place justice. It is amazing! The decor is in keeping with a stable without going overboard. Very tastefully done and welcoming. The location is very private set back behind Angelo's private home and there are horses stables just down the road. So many things to do and see within an hours drive as well....the Culinary Institute of America, West Point, Hyde Park, Saugerties Lighthouse and Huguenot Street in New Paltz to name a few. Angelo was very attentive to making sure we were comfortable and responded quickly with booking information and directions...meeting us at his beautiful rental when we arrived. Thank you for a wonderful stay Angelo and hope we can make it back again before our son graduates!

Thank you so much for your kind review. I am always impressed at how much guests see and do in our beautiful Hudson Valley. It is such an amazing area, full of history yet on the cutting edge of art, food and entertainment.
I hope you can return soon,
Thanks,
Angelo
This converted stable is stunning. The quality and aesthetics are a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Every detail is perfection from the decor to the beautiful wood and cork floors and to the incredibly well-stocked kitchen and clean and comfy bed. Despite its rare and unique beauty and high-quality furnishings, I felt totally comfortable and didn't worry I would ruin anything since everything is so well made and sturdy. The redesign of the stable is genius, and I especially loved the screened porch, especially during a terrific downpour while I was there. I felt a little like Katherine Hepburn in "Philadelphia Story" during my stay...it's just that great! Super clean, Angelo was a sweetheart who answered my many questions about the amazing carriage house. The grounds are lovely as well. Quiet and a wonderful place for me to rest and work. It broke my heart to leave that sanctuary. I have stayed in vrbo and airbnb places all over the country and in Europe and this by far exceeds them all. Sublime!
This beautiful private house was absolutely the perfect place for my husband and I to get away for a few days. The property owners were welcoming and gracious. The house was more beautiful than the pictures. Try to catch a sunset here, you won't be disappointed. Wonderful place!
We adored our stay in the refurbished and beautifully decorated stables. Everything was super cozy and comfortable Whatever we needed was there. This place is unusual and charming. Treat yourself and book !!! We will be back again.
Angelo's place was the perfect getaway! Superbly decorated, spacious and equally convenient for getting out into nature and lounging around and relaxing. Angelo was patient when we got lost and arrived late and an all around gracious host. I'd be happy to return!
Our first stay in a stable did not disappoint! The house was unique, well decorated and had everything we needed for a comfortable summer weekend retreat. Angelo was extremely friendly and available to answer any questions for us. We hope to be back soon!
This is a unique property which offers every detail for a comfortable stay. Checking in was easy. Angelo, the owner, had left some cookies and a bottle of wine, which was a thoughtful touch. While we didn’t have time to cook, the kitchen looked well equipped. The radio is tuned to a good station (Woodstock radio) and the bed was comfortable. I would happily stay here again.
This was a very nice place for us to spend the weekend. It is an unusual, fun space that is much more interesting than your typical place.
The owner was always very responsive, helps and friendly.
Angelo's incredible attention to every detail made staying in the Carriage House an extraordinary experience!

About the host
Hosted by Angelo Bruno
Angelo and Tony have been using vacation rental properties for their travels for years. Tired of sitting on a bed in a hotel room, they enjoy shopping for food and creating a feast with what the local markets have to offer. They have stayed in each of their vacation rentals many times to be sure it all works flawlessly with no surprises. We take the time to see that our guests have a great experience staying here.
Why they chose this property
People born and raised in Kingston do not know this area exists. We are on the edge of town with views of horses in the field and the mountains in the distance. A rare and beautiful spot, most say the felt as though they were transported to another part of the world.
What makes this property unique
Peace and quiet but minutes away from restaurants, shops, the waterfront and all of what the Hudson valley has to offer.
