This quiet home sits on a beautiful 2-acre property. It features a full kitchen with all the necessary utensils, appliances and dishes set next to a large dining and living area.

The Neighbourhood

Our house is located in one of the most convenient location in the Point Reyes Station area, minutes from downtown, from the Tamales Bay Oyster Company, from Point Reyes National Seashore. Downtown Point Reyes Station, home of the popular Bovine Bakery, Station House Cafe, Point Reyes Books and the Saturday Farmer's market at Toby's Feed Barn is short drive to the house. The downtown features many wonderful shops and restaurants including Susan Hayes Handwovens, Zuma, Cafe Reyes, Stellina, the Point Reyes Surf Shop and Flower Power. Please see our digital guidebook for a list of our recommendations.

The living area with vaulted ceilings, large windows with expansive views includes a flat screen TV/DVD player, free WiFi. It features a comfortable seating to enjoy the views of the surrounding property, forest, and further views of the Inverness ridge. Two lovely bedrooms, one with a kind bed, the other one with 2 twin beds are on each side of the house, each with their brand new/renovated bathroom. A third and magical bedroom is on 180 degrees windows room, which will make you feel like you're camping in the forest (this bedroom gets cold in the winter, so if you're sensitive to low temperatures and have a group larger than 4, please be aware of this). All linens are provided.

We have strict NO-SMOKING and NO-PET policies.

Note that the county of Marin requires us to collect a 14% occupancy tax, which will be computed in your booking cost. For the techies out there, the house provides fast Internet, a Sonos system to play your favourite Pandora/Spotify streamed music, a Chromecast key to play your Netflix or Youtube videos.

Great place to spend Thanksgiving!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Loved the homey feel of the place. Great place to just unwind. The location is close to Point Reyes Station that has all the amenities.

Restorative!

We spent a lovely three days @ QNR. The property is comfortable, homey, and just rustic enough. A quick ride into town and across the road from a great meadery. Terrific communication with the owners and property manager. Beautiful birds, deer, and turkeys sightings around the house.

January visit

The Quail's Nest is in a lovely location, which is very convenient for exploring the Pt Reyes seashore. The house is well appointed and comfortable for two couples with a good selection of seating options. The afternoon sun took the chill off the living room and sun porch. We would recommend it to our friends and would stay there again when we are in the area.

Lovely location and house

The house is a little funky, but it definitely grows on you. All of the beds and furniture are comfortable and cozy. The location is lovely with window views where you don’t see any of the neighboring houses. The house is well equipped for cooking and staying indoors while a short distance to all of the wonderful hikes at Point Reyes National Park.

A Wonderful Retreat!

We were escaping smoke from fires in the Sierras and spent four days at Point Reyes. This place could not have been better. Comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, great space for music, chatting, game playing, etc. It was quiet and beautiful. Loved sleeping in the glassed in room with the windows open. It was a flawless stay and allowed us to have great hikes and a fun Tomales Bay kayak trip.

Best location

This is a lovely house in the best possible location. It’s on a quiet private road within walking distance (long walk) of Pt Reyes Station’s main drag. Everything in the home is easy to find, and it’s well stocked.

Peaceful and relaxing

Beautiful cabin. We felt right at home and really enjoyed the area. It was so neat seeing wild turkey walking around in the morning as well as several deer throughout our stay. We'll be back!

Disappointed

The house not clean when we checked in at the scheduled time. We found dusty table tops, spiders webs in every window, cobwebs on kitchen walls, spots on the kitchen floor and rodent droppings in a kitchen drawer. The sun shade was not present on the porch. Aside from new bathrooms, which were very nice, the house is quite outdated and the living room furniture is decades old. 2 weeks later, we still haven’t gotten out deposit back.

Very close to town and yet secluded, this home has a lived in feel, a well stocked kitchen, and was quite comfortable for 5 of us ladies. The high light is a deck surrounded by grassland and wisteria

Great escape

We spent Christmas at this cabin and loved it. It was very cozy and surrounded by nature. Short drive to town and hiking trails. The hosts were very responsive and nice. The only thing that needs upgrading is the kitchen utensils, pots and pans, which the hosts already have plan to do soon.

Great location

What a beautiful place! The description was accurate. We saw so many wildlife (deer, quails, hummingbirds, etc.) while sitting outside on the patio. The stained glass added a lot of charm to the place as well. It was a perfect weekend getaway for my family and I. Thank you to the wonderful hosts!

Quails Nest - a nice retreat

Our family of 4 spent 4 nights at the quails nest. The property is wonderful-- room to wander and relax .The house has a homey welcoming vibe, with loads of books and the perfect window seat We ate dinner on the covered porch and drank wine in the adirondack chairs. We walked across the street to the meadery to sample mead. Our kids had their own room with twin beds. The kitchen has anything you need.

Lovely spot

Such a beautiful location and a charming space. I can't wait to stay another time. I do wish that the kitchen was better equipped and that the stove was in better condition. But the cabin is clearly maintained with care and love, and the owners were helpful and responsive.

Terrific quiet spot

Terrific quiet spot, close to everything. Obvious pride of ownership by the hosts in keeping the house in top condition. Well equipped and comfortable, very easy to settle in and feel right at home. Bathrooms are nicely updated and hot water supply is plentiful. Cell phone coverage of the whole Point Reyes area is spotty, and the house is just outside service range. However the wifi is excellent.

Don’t need to shower then try to check in here

Unable to check in at 4:30 PM, as scheduled and again confirmed that very morning. Owner could not provide a code to enter until 9 PM. His ‘excuse’ is that he is in France and it was 3:30 in the morning there. The place does not look like the pictures on Home Away. We love Point Reyes!

Fantastic Stay

I booked the Quail's Nest for a relaxing weekend getaway to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it was the perfect place for it: cozy, charming, and quiet. Alice and Stephan were great hosts! We didn't meet them in person, but they were very friendly and speedy in all their replies to our questions, and the house manual they sent us was thorough and clear. The home is a really special place: the kitchen was well-stocked, the beds were comfy and had great blankets, and it's set up to make you feel at home (a great selection of teas, interesting books on the shelves). Thank you for a fantastic stay!

Delighted!

We were delighted with the Quail's Nest Cottage which was in a perfect location close to town. It was a cosy, warm, and special place to visit. The house was exactly as described, and Stephan gave us easy instructions for our stay. He was instantly available when we had a question (about using the very efficient wood stove) and we felt well taken care of. We were traveling as a family with three adult children, so there was plenty of room for everyone. We appreciated the lovely bathrooms, the stained glass windows, the spacious living areas, and the convenient neighborhood which was a jumping off point for our many memorable hikes.

Great host

Stephan was a great host! Very attentive from the beginning of the booking process, he made sure our stay was as stress-free as possible. We were there for a wedding, and because of that ended up spending a lot of time just hanging out in the house. Sheets, towels, and blankets had been set out for us, and they were very clean. Instructions on how to get to the house, and how to get it up and running when we got there (accessing the keys, turning on hot water, etc) were very clear, and were sent well in advance of our stay. The house itself was awesome, big open living/dining room area made for a great hangout spot, and the annex had wall to wall windows and an additional day bed that served as a perfect spot for an afternoon nap. The house had undergone some renovations, specifically to the bathrooms and the outdoor deck. The bathrooms looked awesome, actually felt like those of a hotel, and the new deck was a great add, as that was where we ended up spending most of our time. There was a slight smell in the guest bathroom, most likely given issues with the septic tank, but it wasn't that bad. I raised the issue with the owner and he promptly responded that he would have that fixed. The one area I feel could use a little work is the pantry, which looks a bit dated and could use some cleaning. Overall, had a great experience, and will definitely head back! Thanks again for your hospitality, Stephan!

Beauty and Peace at Happy Quail Cottage

The Happy Quail Cottage surrounds you with beauty, warmth and peace. The kitchen is very well equipped, the beds were warm and comfortable, all linens, towels were provided. The Cottage is clean and bright; a south facing beautiful living room window with stained glass ocean scene permits sunlight to enter and warm the living room, kitchen and eating areas. A south facing patio deck invites you to eat breakfast/lunch outside. Reading in the evening was heavenly as it is so quiet; Wi-Fi lets you access music and there are many great DVDs and books at the Cottage. Cottage location is excellent, close to the town of Pt Reyes Station (great bakery and grocery store, bookstore, "Flower Power" shop, Cowgirl Creamery, Stella Luna restaurant great for lunch and even a thrift store, one of our favorites!) and to the Bear Valley Visitors Center. and dozens of hiking trails. The owner provided excellent customer service. I would give the Happy Quail Cottage 10+/10 and I hope we can come back many times. I would highly recommend the Happy Quail Cottage to family and friends.

Saved our annual family vacation!

Stephan went above and beyond to save our annual family mini-vacation when another Airbnb experience failed miserably. A somewhat stressful (and very cold) 12 hours turned into another wonderful 48 hours at Stephan's charming cabin in Point Reyes Station. We enjoyed the woodburning stove, making meals in the large kitchen and playing games and reading in the comfortable living room. (I also snuck in a fair amount of work time, taking advantage of the strong wireless connection.) Stephan was very responsive whenever questions popped up. We really appreciated being both close to town and its amenities (Bovine Bakery, the awesome grocery store, Cowgirl Creamery, etc.) as well as to the area's amazing hiking trails. We had a phenomenal walk down Limantour Beach, braving the rain to be rewarded with a double rainbow :) Huge thanks to Stephan for making the Quail's Nest cottage available at such short notice and helping save our annual family mini-vacation!
