About this property
Yellow Door Gem, 3 Beds, Near North Park Hotspots
Summary:
Welcome to The Yellow Door House – A Storybook Craftsman in the Heart of North Park
The Space:
Our story begins on a family trip to Sri Lanka. At the time, our son Canyon was two, and after nights in hotels and guesthouses, he longed for home. But like most little ones, he was confused - how do describe "home" to a toddler? So we came up with a term he could understand: The Yellow Door House - the house we always came back to, with its bright yellow door and familiar energy. Over time, that name stuck. “Are we going back to the Yellow Door House?” he’d ask. And the answer was always yes.
This home has been more than a place - it’s part of our family’s story. It’s where my wife and I had our third date, where we fell in love, and where we started our family. It’s where our son and daughter spent their early years, where we hosted dinner parties under string lights, and hunkered down during COVID. It holds memories in every corner, and now we’re opening it up for others to enjoy.
Located just two blocks from the heart of North Park, the home is perfectly walkable to 30th Street, University Ave, and El Cajon Blvd - packed with cafes, breweries, vintage shops, and local flavor.
- A private front yard and shared backyard with lemon and avocado trees and a seasonal veggie garden
- Thoughtful, eclectic interiors that blend historic character with modern touches
- Comfortable bedrooms, cozy living areas, and well-equipped kitchen
- Ideal for couples, small families, or travelers looking to experience the local vibe
Just as yellow radiates warmth and joy, we hope this home does too. Whether you’re here for a weekend or a longer stay, we invite you to make your own memories in this vibrant North Park neighborhood. Step through the yellow door, and experience a place that’s more than a stay - it’s a feeling of home.
Guest Access:
Guests have exclusive access to the entire front house, which includes:
- Two bedrooms and one full bathroom
- Living room, dining area, and well-equipped kitchen
- Our favorite spot: the sunroom, perfect for morning coffee or unwinding with a book
- Private front yard shaded by birds-of-paradise trees
In the backyard, you’ll find a shared outdoor space that’s generally quiet and available for guest use. The detached cottage in the back is occupied by my mother-in-law, who rarely uses the shared yard - she has her own private garden space behind the cottage - so the backyard is effectively yours to enjoy.
Parking & Garage
You’re welcome to use the small one-car garage, which fits most standard-size vehicles (though it may be tight for large trucks or SUVs). There’s also an EV charger available for your use. Additional street parking is available but can be hard to find.
Entry & Access
The house has both front and back doors equipped with smart keyless entry (code provided before check-in). There’s also a side entrance that leads directly into the backyard for convenience.
Other Things to Note:
Neighborhood Vibe: North Park is a vibrant, evolving neighborhood, which means you may notice nearby construction or occasional road closures due to ongoing development. It adds to the energy of the area - but can also make driving and street parking a bit tricky.
Getting Around: We recommend using Uber or Lyft, which are readily available and save the hassle of parking. If you do plan to drive or rent a car, we offer a one-car garage (best suited for standard-sized vehicles). Street parking is limited, so walking or rideshare is usually the way to go.
Filtered Water: The kitchen is equipped with a reverse osmosis water filtration system, so no need to buy bottled water - drink up!
Work Space: If you need to get some work done, the sunroom has a desk and work table with natural light and a calming view.
Community Liquor Cart: You’ll find a small bar cart inside the house stocked with a few bottles - operating on the honor system. If you enjoy a drink or two, please replace it with something of equal value for the next guest.
Solar-Powered Living: The home is powered by solar panels with battery storage, making it eco-friendly and energy-efficient.
EV Charging: If you have an electric vehicle, we offer EV charging (Tesla and non-Tesla compatible) in the garage. Charging is free - we just ask that you plug in during off-peak hours (midnight to 6am) to help reduce load on the grid.
Laundry: You’ll have full access to the washer and dryer.
Entertainment: Kick back with access to YouTube TV, Netflix, HBO, and Apple TV+ on the smart TV.
Interaction with Guests:
While we use a local property management team to ensure prompt support during your stay, we - the homeowners - remain involved and are happy to answer questions or offer tips about the area. You get the best of both worlds: responsive service plus a personal touch.
