Host was very welcoming and the home was absolutely 100% everything and more! Palmetto Bay is so relaxing and everyone in the plantation was welcoming and fun and truly exceptional service. The residents were welcoming and amazing! I will definitely book again when it is time for our next adventure to Roatan! Thank you for opening your home for others to see the beauty that Roatan truly is!

Wonderful stay!!

Loved the diving, helpfulness if the staff but most of all- the setting - walked over the to beach every morning! The house was better than expected, the pictures don’t do the home justice!

Perfect Location

Great bungalo close enough to the beach to hear the waves but out of the wind. Easy walk to the Cove restaurant and bar but far enough away to not hear the noise.

Great Place

Very friendly and accommodating. Just ask and we received very promptly! It would have been nice to have air conditioning in the common areas, but we made do. The mosquitos were horrible, but again, we understand the situation. We enjoyed the island and the people were fantastic!

Relaxing, lovely property with friendly people, great restaurant, dive shop, and nice beach!

Well managed property filled with friendly Expats and a relaxed, friendly vibe! Our bungalow was beautiful. The Cove restaurant was delicious (one of the best Cerviches on the island). Stefanie took care of everything and was spot on with her recommendations! One of our favorite islands and we will be returning!

Perfect location for R&R

It was our first trip to Roatan and this property did not disappoint. We rented a car and it was easy to get around the island. When we wanted more excitement we would head to West Bay but enjoyed returning to the peace and privacy of our villa at Palmetto Bay. Can’t say enough good things about the amazing on site dive shop. Will return again and maybe even someday own my own villa in this wonderful community.

Tropical paradise

Stephanie was amazing to work with. She had wonderful and ongoing communication with us, answered all of our questions and just knowing we had someone to message in case something went wrong made a huge difference. The bungalow was perfect for our family. We felt safe the entire stay. The beach was beautiful and peaceful and having boats to charter whenever we wanted was awesome.

Bring bug spray!

We enjoyed a week at Palmetto Bay as a family. We liked the very natural surround and the house was very well appointed. The property is beautiful and well managed, but quite isolated. We experienced multiple power outages while there, which was a nice break from technology, but somewhat inconvenient. Of course, that's not the fault of the owners. The house is open air, so it was VERY humid inside the home, even with aircon units in the bedrooms. The hot water is either scalding or cold because of the on-the-spot water heater, so that took some adjusting. Again, no fault of the owners, but the property is completely riddled with no-see-ums and sand fleas. The bug spray we bought on island did not provide any deterrent for the bugs, so bring that deet or whatever you think will help. I will always associate being itchy and Roatan when I think of this trip. The on-site restaurant is quite pricey, but nice to have since getting anywhere else on the island where there are restaurants is a 15-20 minute drive. Having a car while staying at this property is essential. The beach associated with this property was very full of sea grass and there was a creek that emptied out right into the ocean and after some heavy rains, the water turned completely muddy with all the runoff. A walk around the corner from the beach gives you a much cleaner experience, but it's not totally clear if those spots are private property or not. Overall, this isn't a luxury stay, but it has some plusses that aid in a relaxing vacation.

An honest review

We have spent several thousand dollars with VRBO in on three bookings from December 2023 to February 2024. Before we book again we are going to check this review to ensure it has not been edited or deleted. The good: - Beautiful unit with lovely hardwood floors and décor as well as high ceilings. - Dishwasher, washer and dryer - A partial ocean view - Kudos to the property manager for adding a new mattress pad to our hard bed. - When a storm brought up drifts of sea grass two feet high, staff removed it within three days. The bad: Yes, this is a third world country, but we are paying FIRST world prices. - No glass windows – just screens and pretty shutters - so it’s noisy for sleeping. Construction starts at 7:30 a.m. - Showers switched from very hot to freezing. - The bay was murky with lots of sea grass perhaps because grey water from the condos drains into the ocean right out front. - Pool is small and it was cloudy for 8 out of 10 days. A pool not treated properly with chemicals can expose swimmers to Hepatitis A, E. coli, lice, cryptosporidium etc. The dangerous: Malaria is present in Roatan with hords of mosquitoes at this resort. Sand fleas inside condo. These tiny insects must have burrowed into our skin and clothes. Still biting 10 days after arriving home. Horrifying! Driving to get groceries, we dealt with pothole ridden roads and obnoxious local drivers who pass on blind corners, tailgate and speed. So much for island time….

We demand a full refund

We arrived on June 29 and immediately realized that the house did not have air conditioning as it said in the description of the house on VRBO, it only had air conditioning in the two rooms but one of them did not work well and did not cool the air. In the description of the house it said that both rooms had TV and DVD and that was not the case either, only 1 of the rooms had TV without DVD. Since we couldn't find the remote control for that TV, we sent a message to the host and asked them to tell us where the remote control and more fans were, since we found two broken, they never responded to our message. On July 2, they sent a technician without prior notice who informed us that the TV in the room is broken and there is nothing to do, and he tried to fix the air conditioning in said room without success, it continued without cold air as it is. due. The house does not have glass in the windows, in any of them, only mosquito nets and wooden slats through which the heat filters and we were not warned about that in the description of the house either. The heat we suffered those two nights was unbearable and we could not sleep, nor could we enjoy the common areas due to the heat and the lack of fans that were never brought to us. We decided to go to the pool to cool off and the water was so cloudy that you couldn't see the floor of it. So we decided that same day, July 2, that we had to leave because we could no longer stand those conditions and we sent a message to the host

Beautiful Resort Like Feel

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Palmetto Bay property. The property was spacious and nicely appointed. It feels like you're living in a jungle! It was very quiet and peaceful. We watched the hummingbirds in the morning on the side porch while we drank our coffee. Our neighbors were super nice and even invited us over to a steak dinner one night. I would say the only draw back was the gnats will eat you up (make sure you bring plenty of bug spray) and the pool and restaurant were being renovated during our stay so we didn't get to utilize that part of the property, but they were almost completed the day we left and will be amazing once for all future stays. The island is a beautiful island and everyone on the island is super nice. We plan to come back again in the near future!!

Great Bungalow in a Wonderful Community

I really enjoyed the Palmetto Bay Plantation as a whole first and foremost. The people are wonderful at the on-site restaurant, the Dive Shop and the security gate. I never once felt unsafe or unwelcome. Everyone is on "Island time", so remember that when you are waiting for something :) Bring a flashlight or headlamp if you plan to walk the property after dark, the paths are not lit. The Beach is beautiful, quite a bit of seagrass right out front, but you can make it thigh deep before you have to walk on any of it. the dock takes you out deep past the seagrass and they have ladders and steps to get into the water from there and you can swim to the floating dock if you want. As for the bungalow itself - it was great! The layout provided plenty of privacy between the bedrooms which are at opposite ends of the hallway - each with a huge bathroom/closet space. Some of the lighting in our bedroom left a bit to be desired (especially in the closet area), but we managed to get by just fine. The property description lists an outdoor shower in one of the bathrooms - this is a bit misleading for a couple of reasons; 1) the outdoor shower didn't exist at all (upon contact, the property owner told me they just had a retaining wall installed and the shower must have been removed in doing so) and 2) if/when it was install, I'm assuming, it was out by the front stairs and not in one of the bathrooms. it's meant for showering before you enter the house, which I get, but just not as advertised. Instead we had a tub of water on the step to clear our feet of sand. A bit disappointing overall. The kitchen has most everything you would need; though the salt is very clumpy (humidity), so if you stop at the grocery store grab a new one, not a huge deal, but if you're planning to do a lot of cooking it might be a big deal to you. Lots of nature to be seen and heard from any of the doors/windows and decks... Deadbolt lock and in house safe to make to feel safe. All in all a really nice experience!
